Last night I noticed my dog’s paw was bleeding pretty bad. He had been in the house so I didn’t know what was wrong. After my Fiance and I looked at him closer, we saw that he had broke part of his nail off and it was hanging. He was crying and crying…I called the emergency vet and they told me that I could bring him in and pay the emergency vet or try some Blood Stop to stop the bleeding and wrap it up. Which is what we did. He woke up every hour–I am guessing because he was in pain–and finally the nail broke completely off at 3:30AM. I took him to the vet first thing this morning and they examined it and cut all his nails down so that it wouldn’t happen again. They also gave him some antibiotics…he’s doing fine now but I am exhausted. I went back to work this afternoon and I am barely making it. My poor puppy…

Aww your poor baby looks like mine 🙁
I hate when my little guy has a problem…usually it’s his stomach because he’s gotten into the trash!

Awww poor baby!!! Glad u got home all fixed up. I hate when my dog is sick bc u can’t talk to them and see what’s wrong. Or talk to them to make them feel better. By The Way he is a Cutie.

Oh no! Poor pups. It’s so hard to see your dog in pain!

Thanks ladies. I am a little mad at my groomer because she is supposed to clip his nails every time(because I pay for it) I take him in which is like every 8 weeks and the vet said that they looked pretty long—and he just went to the groomer! Why am I paying her extra for it if she’s barely trimming them??

Your baby looks like mine! I’m sorry you’ve had such an exhausting evening taking care of your little boy. He’s lucky to have such a caring pup parent. Vet visits aren’t cheap! I hope he starts feeling better soon – and that you get some extra sleep tonight.

Poor baby! I’m sorry he was in pain and I’m glad he is okay. He is really adorable.
If your baby’s nails grow fast enough that a trim every 8 weeks isn’t enough perhaps look into those nail grinders that smoothly cut them down. That way it will keep them from getting too long or sharp.

Aww, poor baby! What a long night, too! How is he doing now?

Thank you everyone–he is pretty cute 🙂
He’s doing good. His paw is wrapped up and he’s sleeping. I think the lack of sleep last night and vet visit wore him out. Thanks for asking.
And the grinder is a good idea!

Just one tip on the dremel nail grinders… I swear by them! I use the one that looks like a little gun. Not sure if we’re allowed to link to them or not. But DO NOT use the stones that come with any dremels – they heat up and will burn your pets. Use the sand paper attachments and get new ones every few uses! I will never clip nails again, the dremel is a life saver. I do a quick file job every week or other week at most so it keeps their nails nice and short. So glad your puppy is feeling better, OP!

Thank you! Great tip. He does have a cute face.
I adopted him last October. The previous family had him from 8 weeks old until he was seven years old. They lost their home to foreclosure and were moving in with family and they couldn’t bring him. My older sister fosters dogs and ended up receiving him. She asked me to take him for the weekend to help her out and I fell in love with him and became his owner. I still keep in contact with the old owner as well. I share pics and updates via email. She misses him like crazy though. But it eases her mind that he’s well taken care of.
