I think the black shirt is great!  A little edgy but still extremely formal.  With the royal blue, your groomsmen will look very dark.  Perhaps you can lighten up their ensemble with light gray ties and pocket squares, or something similar.

We are doing black shirts and dark purple vests..I love it! I have gotten a few “funeral” comments but I don’t care πŸ™‚

My husband wore a black shirt, white tie and white vest.  I think he looked great, and still very formal!  Groomsmen wore white shirts, black tie, black vest.

I personally love the black shirts! My fiance is wearing a black shirt with an ivory vest and tie, the groomsmen are wearing the black shirt with a dark red vest and tie, then our ushers are wearing the black shirt, black vest and red tie! It is rather dark, but I think it looks very elegant when all put together. In my case, it’s in the middle of winter so it gives a very romantic feel to it as well.

I think the blue with it will look amazing! The color will really pop!

My guy wants to wear a black dress shirt with a colorful tie… but it so doesn’t work with our colors of aqua & peach. Or does it!? If you have any other inspiration black dress shirt pictures, please share! =) Thanks!

@KrystalS:

I think since he’s the groom, he can wear whatever colors he wants, imho.  This is the only pic I could find.

My FI will be wearing all black.

Black button shirts are very popular looks for red carpet events and no one there looks like they are going to a funeral. In this day and age, outside of the movies and tv, no one wears black to a funeral to begin with so the comparison is completely outdated and irrelevant. If that is the look that you like (the men will be wearing it so it is their choice ultimately, not yours) then go for it.

Thank you for the Lady A picture! I can visualize it better in my head now. =) I guess since our wedding is on the beach, I was thinking khaki and white shirts… that’s what I feel like I’ve seen a lot of. This gives me something to work with. Thanks!
