What are all the moms out there wearing??

posted 2 months ago in Beehive

We are struggling to find my mom something suitable to wear for my wedding in October.  She does not want to look like a typical mother-of-the-bride, but she wants to be age-appropriate.  She's working on a limited budget.  I want my mom to look and feel beautiful on my wedding day, but we don't know where to go find the right dress!! This has seriously been harder than finding my own gown!

So...  where did all those moms out there buy their dresses?  Pictures??

My mom is quite tiny (short and slim I mean)  She is wearing this dress

In that colour.  It looks FANTASTIC on her.  She got a black wrap to go with it for the ceremony.

My FMIL is also wearing a bridesmaid's dress - http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/2732/?color=espresso&colorid=15#FabricList=2&catid=1&displaytype=GridMedium&colorfamilylist=11&activePage=1&rpp=9&SortOrder=Default

But tea-length.  She looks fantastic too!!

My mom was looking in a budget at first too but I wanted her to look very stylish and hip so she totally blew out her budget.  Her dress is by Gail Garrison.  She got it a small boutique shop in Rockland County, NY.  They kind of custom made it for her though since the designer happened to be there that day.  Did you try any of the big department stores?

Definitely have her look at Nordstrom's website.  My mother also ended up wearing a bridesmaid dress, but the store had it in the MOB section.  OUr wedding was slightly more formal though.....and she can't wear tea length.  She also definitely wanted to be dressed up for the wedding, she didn't want to wear just some dress.  There are many options out there though!

My mom's dress is also considered a bridesmaids dress!  We found her's at Saks, and at a decent price too.  I agree that finding the mom's dresses are almost harder then the wedding gown.  Good luck!

My mom shopped for stuff at dillards but found that the in-store selection was very small in comparison to the online selection. They have a flat-rate shipping price (no matter how many items you order) so she ordered five or six dresses from them and had them shipped to her for $8 and then returned the ones she didn't like.

This is what my mom is wearing, but instead in a deep burgundy/wine color.

She had a heck of a time finding anything, but ended up going to David's Bridal and found that! She loves it and it looks great on her.  :)  It first shows it as a sleeveless dress, but if you click alternate views, you'll see the jacket as well which is how she's going to wear it.
