Teh gays and their marriages seem to cause spontaneous combustion. I won't even mention the State of Iowa! ;)
Go, Iowa! :)
Other hot topics include:
"What's Tacky?"
and other various "You should feel sorry for me" stories! I'm all about the hive hugs, but sometimes it's like, pick yourself up, you'll be okay.
I'm still fairly new so I would say for me the ones that has seem the most heated were the "pay for my wedding" and "strippers & bachelor party" posts.
Different people, different strokes. I'm learning to say my piece then walk away. ![]()
JennyBryde,
Believe me, I do too. I'm an extremely opinionated individual that is usually pretty good for saving the craziness to the FI.
Inviting children to the wedding.
and weather or not to abstain from sex before the wedding. and this seems to get hot sometimes even if everyone on the topic AGREES!
A while back The Money Dance/The Dollar Dance caused a hubub!
• wearing white ( or red ?! ) as a guest to a wedding
• wedding "etiquette"
I concur with everyone above...I'm just anxious to see what everyone says! I haven't seen some of the "hot button" topics mentioned above, but boy if I do...watch out folks, the liberal's coming! ![]()
Oh and LOl at the Money Dance! That was at a friend's wedding and it was really weird in a funny awkward sort of way. You could tell my friend was not keen on being passed around to all the fraternity brothers
I agree, gay marriage, "tacky", family issues, and "thunder theft" seem to be the big ones that stick out it my mind. Anything that people have a strong opinion about that they take personally tends to get heated QUICKLY.
Oooh! I just noticed the nav. buttons at the top of the board!! Are those new? I like!!
I'm surprised this hasn't shown up already. It seems like every so often people ask if they can include registry information on their invites, STDs, etc.
Asking money for gifts instead of a registry. In some cultures, it's normal and expected. In here, not so much.
I don't know if this is a typical topic on WB. But, I do remeber a thread being started on whether Bees are posting comments just to up their rank vs. "quality posts" I remeber reading multiple personal attacks and many people were controversial about it.
plus 1's on the guest list
mass-producing CDs for favors/pirating music
registry info on the invite
Privacy issues with wedding planning websites and guest photos on Facebook and MySpace
Different definitions of Tacky
Diversity on the blog
same-sex marriage
Budget envy
bachelor party hatin'
BM/MOH drama
I don't know that it's a topic that spontaneously combusts, but birth control discussions (especially natural family planning) can get a bit toasty.
I second the plus ones, those always generate a fair amount of controversy.
Also the "my bridesmaid/MOH isn't doing enough" types of threads usually erupt into controversy.
I'd have to go with living together before marriage. It usually generates a lot of buzz from both sides the spectrum
The Economy!!! It seems every day there is a post about it. I totally avoid it because there is nothing we can do except try to bargain with the vendors and save, save, save.
Also, "Changing to his last name" (not necessarily in a negative way but people seem to become very adament in their viewpoint)
Also saying words in vows such as "To honor, to be loyal, to serve you" I've seen people don't want to add these into their vows.
Also hand-addressing invitations and thank you notes!
At one baptist wedding, they went into how the bride is the weaker vessel and sertivude to her husband and whatnot. It caused an interesting discussion amongst all my friends...and likely it would here, too!
I agree, money is becoming the new hot topic!

Over the years, there have been a few topics that consistently generate a fair amount of controversy on our boards. ;-)
Here's a partial list:
- She's stealing my thunder (friend or family member scheduling a wedding close to yours)
- Strippers and bachelor parties - are they ok?
- Cash bars: are they tacky?
i've always wanted to pull together an exhaustive list of topics that burst into flames almost every time they come up... so I thought maybe we could do it together! What are the biggest hot button topics you've seen on wedding forums?ps Please only post the topics! Let's not actually discuss the topics themselves... or this post could burst into flames too!
