After saying I love you we have always added, "more & most" so I have been on the fence about getting it engraved on the inside of his ring along with our birthstones..It would read, 'more & most forever' and then I would have our two birthstones set in the band.....
Our song (and what we will dance to our first dance with) is "Could Not Ask for More" by Edwin McCain. There is a line in the song that we split up and placed in each band. Mine says "Everything you Are" and his says "Is Everything to Me". It's simple but it means something to us.
"my favorite" I had to laugh when miss pencils had the same engraved in her man's band.
My other choice was "I put my nose on you" which is an inside joke between my FI and I but I decided it was too many words ...
I've been thinking about engraving "Forever and Ever" in his--it's what we jokingly and lovingly say when we're driving each other crazy! Like, if I have a particularly whiny day and he rolls his eyes, I'll playfully say "Forever and Ever, honey!" just to remind him that he's gotta put up with me no matter what! (Usually he says it when he does something that grosses me out!)
It's a very personal thing though, and you should engrave something that will mean a lot to the two of you!
My fiance desperately wanted to have "If this comes off, I get half" on the inside of our rings. He fancies himself a comedian. :) Luckily, it doesn't fit, so we just went with the date and our initials.
Now I kind of wish that we could put 100% on the inside of them - we've started saying it to each other a lot. As in, I'm 100% with you. I'm in this 100%, and I 100% know what I'm getting into. :)
We kept it simple. We each have eachother's first name and the wedding date on our rings.
I am thinking about puttting "my love. my life." I wanted to do "all my love, all my life" but it doesn't fit.
i'm thinking of putting something like "she loves you" or "my favorite" (that's what i always call him).
denverbirdlet-i can't believe that! i wrote i was using "my favorite" before i even saw that!
how wierd? and i thought it was unusual...guess not.
we are both having simply the word "patience" engraved in our bands. it's the title of our first dance song, whose lyrics are meaningful to us because when we first met we lived 3,000 miles apart and, needless to say, it took a lot of patience to deal with that distance!
I have no idea! How often do people not engrave the inside? Mine won't be engraved since it's too small, so should I engrave his?
We're surprising each other with our engraving. I had: For all my life, I am yours
engraved on his ring. It's a line from a song that's really important to us and we're playing right before our ring ceremony.
We're engraving "forever and ever" in Latin and our wedding date in Roman numerals in each of our rings.
we used to always say that we found our 'puzzle piece' so we're having an actual picture of a puzzle piece engraved w/our wedding date!
soonerpsych, I don't think we are engraving either, at least not now.. what would we have put.. I think we would put "watts & watts". Whenever we say I love you, one person says "forever and ever" and the other says "watts and watts" (you know like lots and lots...) goofy I know, but funny. That would probably be mine.
@JennyChicago - HILARIOUS - love it!!
I'm doing: "Wag! Wag! Wag! xoxox" - it's an inside thing we have - when we are really happy about something - we "wag" our tails like an excited puppy. The xoxox is what I used to text him when we first started dating. Always 5. Now that I write all of that out - I wonder if it's too long! Maybe I'll leave out the xoxox
J T'A. It is something we use for Je t'aime. Which is I love you in French.
For my husband, I had engraved "A cord of three strands" which is in reference to a Bible verse--a cord of three strands is not quickly broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12). It tied up the fact that God is an integral part of our marriage and will help keep us strong.
I put our names and wedding date but wished I put 'thick and thin' which is our saying to each other or something cute
@jennychicago- I love it! 'Put it back on' is so cute and funny!
I am putting "I love you more plus one" in his band since we always go back and forth on who loves the other more..
we're such geeks (and b/c we have iSwimiBikeiRuniPod on our nanos):
f(iDo)(iBride+iGroom)=5.15.2010
The engraver even found a script f for the function symbol. I wanted iSwimiBikeiRuniDo and he wanted the date. This was our compromise.
I was thinking of engraving his with "today & always" which has mutiple meaning... one of which is "Today" I make this promise to you & I will "always" keep it...
not sure though...
we have something we always say to each other, but its too long..."Quien te quiere?" means "who loves you?" in Spanish...I'll have to think on it some more..
"I need you"
When we first brought up the whole marriage conversation, we both knew that's what we wanted on both our rings. Because it's true :)
I'm not even engaged yet but I loved reading this post. I've always thought I'd do something simple like "I love you" or our names with the wedding date (for him: can't forget your anniversary when it's always on you? haha). I think it would be sweet to have an inside joke, but I worry that we'll eventually quit using the joke and then it won't be as special. I think it would be kind of cool to just get "Mr. Last name" and "Mrs. Last name" because I am a huge romance junkie and the line in Pride and Predjudice when Elizabeth says to Darcy that he can only call her Mrs. Darcy "...when you are completely, perfectly, and incandescently happy." Swoon:)
I think we're going to split up "For I am my beloved" on his ring and then on my ring "& my beloved is mine".
It's all a bit backwards in Finland compared to UK/US, you get the bands when you get engaged, the woman gets the (traditionally) diamond ring at the wedding. The man picks out the bands and buys them so he was the one to get them engraved, and he got the normal thing to do in Finland which is to have the other persons name plus the date you got engaged :)
Then at the wedding my ring should be engraved with his name, plus the wedding date :)

Ive been back and fourth about engraving and what to put. I would love to put something obviously meaningful to us but something that includes God, because He is a big part of our life.
What are you having engraved and why?
