There is no season I love more than Christmas. It's also safe to say thet I go ALL OUT for it too. I start my gift shopping in September (sometimes October) - I know, it's a bit crazy, but it makes me soo happy :-)
My man loves good whiskey, especially bourbon. He's just discovered the series Mad Man and loves it. so.. here's my Christmas gift list for him this year:
1) first 3 seasons of Mad Man.
2) Waterford Crystal Gift set (6) of Double-Old fashion glass. (see HERE)
3) Personalized leather coasters with his innitials (see HERE)
4) Waterford Crystal Decanter (see HERE)
5) to top it off, a personalized (with innitials) American Terry Co Bathrobe (see HERE)
... and of course a nice bottle of Bourbon :-)
You get the idea/theme here. I'm just so excited, because I know he's going to LOVE it! And I know him, he's gonna be all pumped and feel all manly (guys are too funny!)..
so don't jug, I know I'm a bit extravagant, but it's because I love it - so I start putting money aside early on :-)
What are you getting your better-half for Christmas? Have you already thought about it?
We usually spend a good amount on each other for Christmas, but this year we're doing a $20 limit. Instead, we're buying a DSLR and a new TV "for each other." However, these items will likely be purchased before Christmas, on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
@kmsw: I'm registered for that same decanter!! I absolutely love it.
Since we are getting married so close after xmas and have a ton of expenses, our presents aren't as excessive this year.
I already got his present- he loves Nautica and Hugo Boss, so I got him 2 Nautica wool sweaters and 1 Hugo Boss sweater...in his favorite colors: Blue, Gray and Black. Yeah, he's a trend-setter that one! lol
We are going to honeymoon in VERY cold cities in Jan (Prague and Vienna) so they are meant for our travels to keep him warm. :)
Wow, what a lucky guy!
We're going a little cheap this year for the holidays, since we have a new house and a new baby. My hubby has to take his second flight ever to be in a friends wedding soon, and it's his first flight without me so he's very nervous about it. So I'm getting him a necklace that has a traveler's prayer on it. Oh, we're Jewish so this is for Chanukah :)
And I'm going to get him a gift certificate to a restaurant and the movies. May not sound so special, but since we haven't had a date night since our baby was born 3 1/2 months ago, I think he'll be pretty excited!
We are technically not doing gifts this year since we just purchased a new home AND expecting a our first bbay. Our Xmas and bday gifts for the next two years will be our new kitchen with dream appliances.
But I'm sure I'll still give him something small to open!
We've been doing that a lot lately as well. After 10 years together you start wanting big house items instead of stuff!
Hi Five! ( I know, I'm a dork, the hi five is for being kindred spirits. New House and New Baby)
@Evie19:Wow! I've always wanted to go to Prague AND Vienna!!! That's wonderful! Before you go to Vienna you should watch the movie Princesse Sisi, it was my favorite growing up. And you'll see tons of stuff about that over there! Have fun :-)
We're going less expensive this year--saving for a wedding and all--but I'm getting him cigars--he really likes them and I tend to get them for him every year.
For Christmas I'm knitting him a blanket with his family's clan pattern (because a) I steal the blankets and b) he's the youngest and won't get family heirlooms) and buying him a subscription to his favorite magazine.
For his birthday (same week) he's getting very good tickets to watch his team play my team.
My SO is Jewish, so I get him Hanukkah presents, but here's what I'm getting him this year:
We set a $200 limit this year, so I'll probably be right around there. He's lucky that he can spend all $200 on one present! I have to get 7!
I have no clue yet. :/
My husband's birthday is November 27th & our anniversary is December 11th.
For his birthday I already know what I am getting him/doing. We are going on a trip to a beautiful little town in another state. Sighting seeing, going to a museum, ect.
Then for our anniversary, A tungsten bracelet or stainless. Which ever I find that he would like the most. As for Christmas I have no clue. I am thinking of getting him Dale Jr. Pj's, Dale JR. floor mats for the car, Dale JR. boxers, Dale JR. steering wheel cover, ect.
I think DH is getting an iPad from me. He has come up with two less expensive items that he wants which I will pass on to my parents for their ideas. He hasn't outright asked for the iPad but I know he wants it and just doesn't want to ask for such a pricey gift.
@Mrs.Estep:Wow! They are all so close together, must be quite the challenge! That's awesome though: I LOVE "trip" gifts :-)
wow!! you guys don't mess around. that is some serious gift giving. They are all great gifts! He's a very lucky guy! : )
This year we are only getting the kids and our parents something. Because our wedding is almost 6 months away and we still have to get rings and book the honeymoon, we decided not to get each other anything this year.
We don't do a bunch of little presents for each other; we set a budget and get each other one major thing we've been wanting. Honestly I'm giving him cash bc he wants a new exhaust for his quad. Idk, it's not sweet and romantic to some but he's as happy as kid! I am getting a treadmill bc my knees can't take outdoor running anymore. :( So excited to run whenever I want!
Last year money was super tight because we were saving for the wedding, so we each got each other a pair of boots. this year, money is a little bit better, but now we are saving for our baby who is on the way! I really have NO idea what to get him, i feel like he is the guy who has everything. I was thinking about asking him if he wanted to NOT get presents for each other this year, and just go to Hawaii sometime in early 2012 before the baby comes.
@MissDareDevil:I always thought trip gifts are just awesome! I feel like a NICE homecooked meal is always a great addition to anything :-)
@kmsw: I've been to both cities before, I love them! I'll check out that movie. :)
I think we are going to do small gifts this year $100 or less, because we are taking a vacation to Florida in May and our paying for our wedding next year. That is enough lol.
My DH has such expensive taste (unfortunately for me!!)...I know he has been eyeing a pair of John Varvatos boots..so that will be his 1 present this year =)
(Then again I asked him for either an iPad or a DSLR camera...so I guess I'm just as bad!!)
If all goes as planned, we’ll be getting each other a puppy for Christmas! If not, then I’ll probably get him the Apple TV that he’s been wanting for a while.
We both want to get PADI (scuba) certified, so maybe we give each other the classes as an X-Mas present. That's more than I was thinking we should spend, since we just got married and went on a nice honeymoon, but we've been wanting to do it forever and I think both of us are all out of gift ideas (since we gave gifts on our wedding day). It wouldn't be a surprise, but it would take the pressure off Christmas shopping for each other... we haven't shopped for family yet since we've been so focused on the wedding.
Money is tight, so we may skip presents for each other concentrating on getting soemthing for family and our nieces and nephews. We are trying to sent his mom on cruise so thats our #1 priority. We probably get something for each other in the days or weeks after Xmas. He's a huge James Brown fan, so if I end getting him something it will be set of his concert DVDs or CD Box sets. He'll love that.
@bride2bejc:oooh they must be nice!!! My guy doesn't really know anything about that stuff, but I still get it for him... I think he's starting to like it :-)
This year Im getting my husband a new lens for his DSLR, the last book in the Game of Thrones trilogy (he already has the other ones), a t-shirt with a scene from Walden (his favourite book), and probably some boxers because he needs them. Our anniversary is two weeks after Christmas, and then his birthday and Valentine's day are the month after, so coming up with gifts for those dates is going to be the hard part! Im thinking of making him a photo album of our dating years for our anniversary, and surprising him with a weekend trip to a nearby city for his birthday. He always tells me "experiences are more important than gifts" anyway so in the future I hope I can buy him more experiences :P
- a new watch, the one I gifted to him 2 years ago broke :(
- an airplane/boat model. He always looks at them, but refuses to buy one for himself.
- PJ pants! It's a tradition that I give all the men in my life (my dad, brother, SO's brother, his dad) really comfy PJ pants for Christmas. SO's brother still raves about how comfy the ones he gets are.
- some sort of cooking utensil he wants. which I still haven't figured out yet.
I feel very mean with what I've got mine so far! We're quite strict on budgets this year so I've ordered him a pair of watch cufflinks (as he's always moaning about not being able to see his watch when he wears a shirt with French cuffs) and a cast iron poffertjespan (which I had to order from Holland as I couldn't find any in the UK).
Oh, and I'm getting him an A3 print of my favourite boudoir photo.
I'll get him lots of little silly things in the run up to Christmas, but those are two of the biggies.
His birthday's 2 January so I've still got to think about that.
We are kind of broke this year... oh, let's be honest, we're kind of broke every year :) So we usually buy each other one big present, but already know what it is cause they're usually things we can do together, like last year it was bicycles. I think this year we'll buy each other tickets to see Ron White come do stand-up - those suckers are expensive but SO worth it, he's hilarious. We also always buy each other a special ornament representing the past year.
Now just to figure out what to buy him for his birthday (Dec 15th!)...
ETA I also will stuff his stocking with treats and funny boxers and kitchen gadgets :)
Christmas is going to be a smaller gift (I got him an Ipad for his birthday) but I'm still blowing it out of proportion.
I'm going to get him wooden spoons and a baked donut pan and a cinnamon donut mix.
Since our wedding is a week before Christmas and we'll be on our honeymoon over Christmas...our gift to each other is well the honeymoon =)
DH only likes gifts if he can pick them out himself. It has to be the exact one he wants and usually something pricey. His mom still doesn't get it and every year buys him a zillion things he doesn't open or ever use. This year I know he wants something for his new BMW. I don't know, intake something or exhaust? I have no clue, lol so he will buy it himself like usual. I will have to give him a couple hundred dollar limit though or he will seriously spend like a grand. We usually go all out on our daughter, I'm estimating about $500 for her so he needs to learn he's not the child and make do with less.
We agreed to only spend ~$100.
I'm getting him this watch, it's made of wood!

I am a crazy christmas lady too! I started picking stuff up around the beginning of October for my son. As for my FI and I we are only doing stockings and maybe something small (you actually gave me an idea about a bottle of liquar) .. and we are putting 500$ each into our wedding fund. It kinda makes me sad since I love Christmas shopping, ill probably end up spending too much on my son to make up for it lol
@Boston Bee: Is there a reason why you're going with 7 gifts? Just wondering... since Chanukah is 8 days.
I don't know! Just little things I suppose. I know he wants a martini shaker and I think I'll hunt around for some ironman or marvel shot glasses. I usually get more ideas closer to Christmas :)
I'm terrible and already gave him 3 of his gifts!! An enormous "Mr. Grumpy" mug, Duff pajama bottoms (to match his infamous Duff beer slippers), and a tiger striped onesie jammies for grown ups complete with a hood, ears, paws, haha (I had thought about a "big cat rescue adoption" box but figured he'd get more use and fun out of the jammies). And this is the surprise that's still on the way so he can actually open something on Christmas!

My SO is obsessed with the Dinosaur webcomic series. So I bought him a dinosaur comic book personalized for him. It is signed by the artist, and he drew one of the dino's wearing a panda hat (which is an inside joke between us). I was so excited about it, I called him up once it came in the mail and told him, and I e-mailed him a picture of it! I bet I'll give it to him early, I hate waiting when I'm excited about stuff. I will get him some other stuff too, but I'm not sure yet, more than likely he will get some clothes (boring, I know), he never shops for himself and really needs some.

@hana.schmitt: I would have a very happy man if I bought this. Isn't thinkgeek such a fun website?
