My fiancé lost his grandfather this year...so I'm having a portrait painted on the two of them playing poker and having a good ol time...it's certainly not cheap, but well worth the money in my opinion...
if he wants an ipod then get it but load up some songs that mean something to the both of you, songs that remind you of good times and even some favs from his childhood (i have candyman by sammy davis junior on mine, always reminds me of when i was a kid)
for my husband we just came back from 2 weeks in france and im taking him to New Zealand for 2 weeks. in the past month he got a new laptop, gps, 2 camera lenses, flash and $400 camera bag and while in NZ im sending him on a photography safari and private fly fishing course - hes not allowed to ask for anything for christmas :)
I'm getting DH a new GPS and some shoes that he can wear on surgery days - I let him pick everything out and I'm just ordering it.
I'm just as stumped. This is our 10th Christmas, and I'm fresh out of ideas. He says there isn't anything in particular that he wants or needs, and all I've picked up for him so far is a green polo shirt. Not very exciting!
In the past, he's received wallets (2 diff. christmases), 3 watches (3 diff. christmases), a personalized ornament from Things Remembered, tons of clothing, gloves/hats/outerwear, a scarf I knitted, a blanket I made, toys (He loves Spiderman and Toy Story, so I've gotten him a few fun/gag-style gifts of figurines/toys), one of his favorite photos from our wedding stretched on canvas, a sno-cone machine, scrapbooks I have made, board games/puzzles...
I'm forgetting several gifts in there.. it has been so long, I can't remember much of what I got him our first several christmases together.
I'd love to find a new/unique idea of something that isn't a repeat of something I bought him in the past!!
We dont really do a "Christmas gift" since we sort of just buy whatever we want year round. But this year we're calling the shot gun he just bought his "Christmas gift".
We make gifts. I made him a teapot, two mugs, and three coasters. We'll have tea in them Christmas morning.
I got DH a video game he's been nagging for, a book he wants, and I'll get him a t-shirt or something too. We also do little stockings too, which i'll fill with mens face cream, turtles chocolate, an applestore gift card for him to buy songs and apps, probably a few other inexpensive things!
I'll probably get him a couple of books (he's into sci-fi and fantasy, and I've been encouraging him to read more) and some other little things. I bought him some cologne he's been dropping hints about for a while, too.
Hard to say without knowing him but I usually make a list of things people like and figure out what I can do from there- so for FI it's like, "Michigan football, Weezer, playing guitar, his dog" and then you can find random stuff that goes with those interests- books, concert tix, memorabilia, whatever.
This year I am getting him something called a digital stage piano...it looks like a keyboard but is actually a piano from my understanding
@Seaside I know it says you live in NJ but seriously you must live near where I do in Michigan because SO and his friends are all about Football, especially UofM football LOL
I don't have a lot of money to spend this year but so far I am getting him some things I saw on Etsy. One is a set of his and hers mugs that say "I Do" and "Me Too." On the inside of the mug it says "and they loved happily ever after" and then on the back of the mugs it will have our names and wedding date.
Then the other thing I got on Etsy was an adorable handpainted Snowman couple that says "Our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs."... and then on the back it will have our names.
When I get my next paycheck in a couple of weeks I'd like to get him some other things but so far I have no idea what! Maybe I will go to Caswell Massey and get him some nice soap, shaving equipment, toiletries?
@missbumblebee: haha FI went to school there! He is OBSESSED...I am sure your friends are going as crazy as he is for the big game tomorrow!
Lucky for me Mr. Hedgie makes a list every year and posts it online for family to comb through of things he REALLY wants so figuring out what to get him is super easy. I feel kinda bad though because it just hit me how lame I am. I have gotten him a really nice (yay Black Friday!) electric razor (Seriously! Was $150, got it for $40), a robe and comfy slippers for when he takes the pup out to potty in the morning... that is it. Ugh... being married apparently means you get lame stuff for the hubs because you know he needs it. Hopefully I can find something he would have fun with at a reasonable price.
I was worried too for a while because the Samsung Galaxy tab was WAY too expensive for me this Christmas. Fortunately I found I could get a refurbished one for half the price.
So, that's what he's getting. Not sure if I'm gonna get something else. Still pondering.
I have bought SO some designer shoes he wanted, he had a pair similar before and wore them for years, but they finally gave up the ghost - so I have got these to carry on for a few more years.
Plus a couple of the latest released war games for Xbox (why do I indulge him to spend hours glued to the tv?!)
I got my SO a tv for the bedroom with a built-in dvd player, a wall mount for the tv, a poker set, an engraved flask, pocket watch, engraved tie clip, basics (boxers, socks, and tshirts), and the Big Lebowski on bluray. (He's Jewish, so he gets 8 presents for Hanukkah! Lucky guy!)
A gym membership :) This will be something we will be able to do together and get in shape for our wedding!
We're buying a hurom juicer for both of us and then I got him a few things to surprise him:
- A pair of J. Crew slippers (I had a 50.00 coupon- they cost me 8 bucks)
- A vintage map of Detroit we'll have framed. He's been talking about wanting to put up art, I'm not a huge fan of most art. We met in Detroit and lived there for three years, I think it's a happy medium.
- I'm also thinking about getting him a microphone for his ipad. He has a degree in sound engineering, but it a Naval Officer doing something unrelated. I know he would like one, but I haven't decided if the cost is worth the use it will get.
He says he just wants this certain book so I'll probably get that. I have no idea what else to get him. He says he doesn't want anything except that book. I'm inclined to get him clothes (he could use a few new items) but he wouldn't care about clothes. He does like T-shirts so I think I'll get him a Dunder Mifflin T-shirt and maybe another one that says something clever.
We went to Black Friday today and FI was dying for these pair of Oakley sunglasses. LOL I talked him out of it... and then bought it for him for the holidays behind his back! Muahahahahahahha
He's on the phone now with his friend talking about how awesome it was~ Yay!
-$100 Gamestop gift card
-$25 Amazon gift card
-$20 or $25 (I forget) 3DS Points card
-12 Skylanders (little figures that let you reach new levels and stuff in ne of his video games)
-2 video games
-3 pairs of pajama pants
-1 t-shirt
-1 pair of slippers
-body scrub
-facial cleansing brush
-Gizmo ornament
-tons of candy
I might get him more gift cards or something, but I'm not sure.
ahh my husband is difficult to shop for he has everything already!!!! he took a beer brewing class and really liked it so im thinking of getting him a beer brewing starter kit!
We tend to buy what we want during the year, so I like to schedule a trip or event we can do together. This year I'm thinking about booking a snow mobiling tour. In the past, I gave him good seats to an Avs game and a weekend trip to a bed and breakfast that had a private hot tub on our balcony. It's made for some great memories.
The first time I bought a significant other tickets to a sporting event as a gift, I was telling my best friend on the phone about my idea. I was still a little unsure, and this random guy came up to me and apologized for interrupting and ease dropping but said he'd be thrilled if his girlfriend did that. My decision was pretty easy after that. :)
He mentioned he wants a nicer looking jacket so I got him a peacoat. I'm going to get one more thing as well, probably nice pants, a sweater or a video game.
I've bought him lots of little things this year.
An iPhone docking station/speaker set.
Cordless phone set (he constantly whinges about our standalone phone)
Noise blocking headphones
Jeans & a Shirt
I really want to look into getting a coffee machine (one of those ones that takes pods, no idea what brand is best) but I'm not sure if I can spring the price. We'll see!
I'm extremely tight on money this year, and neither one of us could think of any "big" presents we wanted, so we're just doing stockings. I love buying for people though, so it's been hard to restrain! For his stocking I have 3 dvd's (Rango, Megamind, A-Team...he likes weird animated movies lol), a 3 cd set from his favorite band, a cd of our favorite comedian, a Georgia Bulldogs leather wallet, Axe body spray set, pajama bottoms, and some candy. We went together to pick out our stockings today. He wanted a smallish soccer-themed one that I'm somehow going to fit all his stuff in, and we got me the biggest stocking they had. (He's not having money troubles, and I always have a long wishlist of little things!)
He really needs a laptop for school ( he is in graduate) so I saved up some money ( and stood in line for 4 hrs last night at walmart) and got him a laptop.
Also the Batman pjs that they have at spencers. Hes a dork. :)
We just moved into our house together (after 5 months of marriage),and DH is a kitchen freak. He LOVES to cook and takes pride in all his kitchen-gear, which im super happy about because I HATE to cook. For Christmas, I'll be getting him stuff for the kitchen that he's asked for since we moved in.
FI's bday is 12/15, so I always have difficulty trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas, since I've just gotten done with his bday! But it does help that black friday and cyber monday are only a few weeks before both of those, so I wind up getting him more than I would be able to any other time of the year. I am not good at holding onto gifts when I buy them early - I usually wind up giving them early or buying waaaayyyy to much!
I stood in a ridiculous line, in an even more RIDICULOUS crowd for an hour last night at Walmart and got him a new laptop for his bday.
Then I hit up Kohls and got him some shirts. Definitely getting him more, but it will be a bunch of small stuff as opposed to a big gift.
I'm super excited to get him another PS3 game (note my sarcasm). And I'll probably get him some LSU shirts & hoodies too.
No pysical gifts this year. We decided to book a vacation to a resort in Mexico just before Christmas, and that is our gift to eachother. The gift of memories!!
I got FI lego! He collects it and loves building it. Personally I am not fond of it so I don't think he suspects I got it. It is the Mircobus they just released.
We have a baby on the way, just bought a new house with renovations underway in a few weeks. So no birthday or Xmas gifts for two years! But of course I will be getting him something small to open. I'm thinking DIYing a memory keepsake of our honeymoon.
I always give him either something useful and/or hobby related.
Years past I have given him Citizen Ecowatch, front row seats to football games, hockey games, Insulated Timberland boots, new Columbia 3in1 jacket, iPhone, Archery stuff. Last couple years we have done combo gifts for each other related to stuff we want for the house. New living room set, new 52" Plasma TV, etc.
After 11 years you start just buying household stuff! hehe.
I love gift shopping for my SO!!!
I got:
-pair of running shoes
-slippers
-sherpa lined jacket (he is obsessed with the one his mom got him 2 years ago, its so worn out!)
-one size fits all wrench thing he saw on tv
-car floor jack (boring, but he LOVES working on his cars, and he broke his old cheap one so of course I bought the best one available lol)
-pair of jeans
-Backpack
We also do stockings (our tradition is to get them on St. Nicks Day, December 6) I'll buy a bunch of small things like lottery tickets, candy, his favorite beer/drinks, he'll also get one of the things above that day. I'm thinking the running shoes.

I have to admit I'm struggling on what to get SO for Christmas. I feel like I know him pretty well but I'm not sure what to get him. I know he wants an ipod but I'm not sure I want to get him one. Do you guys have any suggestions what are you getting him for Christmas?
