Sooooooo... my Fi brought up wedding gifts tonight. Like three weeks before the wedding. So tell me, bees, what are you getting you groom? Or male bees (right term?), what would you hope to get on your wedding day? Bonus points if it's not a project that takes more than 3 weeks to do or would cost more than $100!
I got my FIL a diamond cross necklace. The plus side of it is that it was 75% off at Zales. So check Zales out right now all of there men jelwery is 50-75% off . Good look!!
i am getting my FI a skull and crossbones tie to wear at our reception. Trust me, it is not tacky. Just a narrow black tie with a very small skull and crossbones design. He really wanted the groomsmen to wear this particular tie, but our ceremony is in a church and I felt a little weird about it. I think he'll enjoy wearing it for the reception. Also, I a getting him tickets to a Red Sox/Yankee game. he is a Yankee fan, and I am totally Red Sox.
I'm getting boudoir photos done by A Girl in Love Photography (http://www.agirlinlovephotography.com/) in Adrian/Tecumseh, MI.
I would like to do a Boudoir photo shoot, but I still have some weight to lose before I do that!
However, I am also making him a book of our relationship. I am writing the story of my perspective of when we first met, our first date, and our first few months together. Plus, he's saved every card I've ever written him, so I am either going to put all of the cards in the book, or rewrite them in a creative way. I'm not crafty at all or good at scrapbooking, so I am going to write it, but I am going to probably enlist a few crafty friends for the actual putting it together.
I got him those cufflinks recently posted about, the ones made of baseball stadium seats. He's a huge Yankee fan. I wanted to keep it a secret, but I think he poked around and found them (gotta find better hiding spots!). I think I am also going to get him a bathrobe, one of those fancy spa ones, with his initials embroidered on it. He keeps looking online at the pics of the hotel where we're staying for our honeymoon and commenting on how excited he is for the robes. So I figured I'd get him his own.
A nice watch is a classic wedding gift.
@ SoontobeMrsCruz,That is an awesome idea! I really love it! I love making stuff for the FI because it's so personable. We've been dating over 8 years so anything monetary we have already given each other. I brought up the bride/groom gift idea (didn't even know people did that??) to him couple weeks ago. His response was...um we're getting married...paying for the wedding. I think that's gift enough. Hahha. And I have to agree. If I do "get" him anything it will probably be stealing Mrs. Cruz's idea of reassembling all the cards! I have saved ALL cards we've given each other over the years...birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries, the couple V-day/Sweetest Day cards.
Hm. I was brainstorming MrsCruz. What about cutting up the parts of the card that are actually written by you. Then maybe parts of each card that you like, perhaps images, quotes, etc then taking the bits & pieces and adhering them into a page. Do that for each card/per page in a scrapbook? Just a quick thought...not sure how you will feel about "cutting" up the cards. Not sure how I feel about that!
Ummmmm, Nothing. We talked about it and decided to go in on a new stove. i'm SO flippin' excited about replacing my 60's monstrosity with a shiny new oven though. Plus, i'm already buying myself a new digital camera with my tax refund. So, needles to say, we're going to have sweet pics from our hm!
I don't think we're getting each other anything, either -- we're just going to exchange cards.
I did a boudior photo shoot so there is the book from that. And I got him locket cufflinks and ill put pictures of his father who is no longer with us.
I havent decided when to give him the bouidor book though, I dont exactly want him opening it in front of all guys while they are getting ready.
What does your groom like? Could you get him a funky tie or some fun cufflinks? Does he like videogames -- is there a game or a system he'd enjoy? Would he want a new camera for the honeymoon, or is there something you bake that he'd love to be surprised with while getting ready on the wedding day? Would he enjoy an appointment for a really close professional shave or a massage the morning-of? Is there a concert coming up in the future that you could get him two tickets to, or an amusement park or something nearby that he'd enjoy? Does he have a super-favorite band where he'd enjoy getting one of their box sets?
I got my FH a watch but he found it. I think I'm going to get him a nice big bottle of his favorite whiskey and send it to him on a fancy platter while he's gettin ready with a glass he can keep and enough hotel glasses for his groomsmen. I hate shopping for him without his input so I'll probably take him shopping before or after the wedding :)
I am also doing a boudoir magazine style book for him, but I also don't want to give him that until we are together alone after the wedding. I will probably get him cuff links to wear that I can give him on the morning of our day...I'm not sold on that idea yet though...
I'm doing a boudoir photobook for him & having a girl on etsy make him giraffe cufflinks. His best friend, the man that was suppossed to be his best man, took his own life last year due to years of severe OCD and his favorite animal was a giraffe. That way he can still be with us on our special day.
Sarah
@Sarah - that's a great idea. My FI's bff died several years ago do to a drug related accident. I would love to get him something similar to remind him of his bff. I also like the idea of the cufflinks with the pics.
As of yet my plan is to get FI the watch of his dreams (he's totally a watch guy) and also I found some cufflinks made out of old typewriter keys that I will probably get him. He loves to write and is working on his first novel so they really suit him.
Maybe I can get the cufflinks with his bff's initials on them to go with the above mentioned thoughts / ideas. Thanks guys!
You know, I haven't given this any thought at all! We've been doing lower-key gifts for each other this year because we're buying a house and trying to save money for home improvements/new furnishings/etc. But a wedding gift! Hmmmmm! Mr. MJ's birthday with within a month of our wedding, and I have some ideas for that. Perhaps one of them needs to migrate to a wedding gift idea.
How about noise cancelling headphones. If he's into music, it would be a great gift for when traveling.
i'm trying to decide between a belt and a watch. hoping to splurge on baseball tickets too :)
You mean I'm not gift enough? Ha... I have no idea. As wer're also planning to buy a house just before the wedding we probably won't exchange gifts... maybe save any $ we do have for an extra-fancy bottle of wine on the honeymoon. :)
I am also doing budoir pictures to give FI on our wedding night. He doesn't get to see, or know, until after we're married. I want to scrapbook them, but we'll see. Might be awkward for me to do a scrapbook about myself like that.
Thanks for the ideas, ladies! I think all of you have some great presents picked out. Your Fi's are so lucky! Ultimately, I think I will order him a pair of noise cancelling headphones for our honeymoon, and maybe a bottle of champagne for the morning before the wedding. Thanks again for all your help!
i am getting my guy a honeymoon.... His birthday is the week before the wedding so I'll give it to him then so he'll know what to pack!
I am getting someome to play bag pipes at the end of the ceremony.
He will play us out of the church. My groom and all his groomsmen are
all wearing kilts and this will just be the icing on the cake. Just hope
I can keep it a surprise!
A Tag Heuer watch and sterling silver guitar cuff links
I guess the correct word for male bees is drones? Haha, maybe male bees is better!
I think most guys don't really want anything for their wedding... just seeing their partners happy is more than enough!
aww mr bee.... how sweet...
My FH will look at the gift and is now at the point of "and how much does this cost?" With all the wedding expenses- that is all that ever comes out of his mouth now.
I love that Mr Bee pulled this out of the 2 month old threads to get it going again. Nice ;)
I think I might get my FI a nice professional looking watch. He has an everyday one that I got him a year ago and he wears it almost everyday, but I think it would be nice for him to have one that is better for his 9-5 job.
My guy is a baseball fanatic. He has been eyeing a number of baseball cards, a few classic ones, a few yankee greats.. I think I'll find him one of those.
I got my FI a handmade asult sized Superman cape.
I know it sounds weird but as a little boy my FI went through some very hard times. The one thing he absolutely loved from his childhood was his Superman PJs that had a cape connected to it. He reminisces of the days he would jump off of furniture and run around and when the cape broke off he was really upset. So when I saw on etsy a seller who creates the cape, I knew I just had to get it. It is a tribute to the good parts of his childhood. Now wouldn't it be hilarious if when we are introduced he comes running out in the cape, lol...
Oh and I got a Superman garter set as well
.
We decided to forgo gifts so we can enjoy an extra nice dinner on our HM!
Mr. FF is getting boudoir photos with a poster on of the pictures of course for his eyes only!
he doesnt really 'need' anything, but I have decided to get him a grooms cake to suprise him with!
Boudior pictures. I took them a little too late so the book isn't going to be done by my wedding but it looks like we are going to be spending our second month of our marriage apart so it will be a good gift for that!
Thanks for bringing this back up, Mr. Bee! I kept meaning update what I ACTUALLY got my (new!) husband for the wedding. After finally making a decision about what to get him, I ended up changing and getting him something else. I got his wedding ring engaged with a special message. It only cost about $25, but it really meant a lot to him. :)
I LOVE the ring engraving idea! So special. I might copy you. We decided not to exchange gifts because it's just one more thing to worry about, but we ARE doing a letter exchange right before the ceremony. But before we decided that, I was going to get him a flip video cam for the honeymoon! (ha - don't get any ideas!)
PS - I'm a worker bee officially. I'm honored! Also - do you guys have ideas on what to engrave in the ring?
I had my fiance's ring with "Love never fails"
As far as what I'm getting him, I'm giving him me. I'm doing a boudior shoot. If I can't find a photographer (why is that so hard in Omaha?), then when my sister comes out in a couple of weeks, she'll do it and I'll do a book myself (under $50).
We decided to do no gifts....but i'm making him socks that say "in case you get cold feet" just by stenciling them on real cheap. Yep i'm poor and they're $30 on etsy! ick
