I love grilling. Monday FI and I had some delicious steaks.
I am one of those people that grill year round. I don't care if it is snowing, if I want to use my grill I use it.
Tri tip is a big one for us. Rub it down with yellow mustard and then coat it in your favorite seasoning (Pappy's is good). I think FI does it on the top rack of the gas grill so it's more of a slow BBQ and so it doesn't catch on fire. Mmmm so tasty!
We also like to do zucchini, cut in half lengthwise and brushed with olive oil and garlic salt and pepper.
Asparagus marinated in italian salad dressing and then grilled over low-medium heat is good too!
@LetsGoPens: I'd grill in the winter too, but it's just too hard to get Fi out there while I stay inside--Hah! JK, we both love to sit out in the backyard and grill.
haha. It's definitely not grilling weather yet but we grill year round in our household too!
My fave is grilled vegetables, squash, eggplant, etc with a little S+P and garlic salt.
Fish, fillets & whole alike, on the grill.
Steak, chicken breast, pork chops.
Lately a fave of ours is grilled asparagus.
I'm most excited about smoking season!!! Can't do that in the winter! ;)
@Gerbera: I've always wanted to try smoking meats... is it difficult?
Jaynee, I had to google tri tip and now I want to try it!
Something I just remembered is that my brother in law grills vidalia onions in tin foil. You peel them and slice off a bit of the top. You cut a little hole in the top and put a chicken bouillon cube in it. Close the packet up and grill it until the onion is soft. It's REALLY good.
Today is a perfect day for grilling - it is 80 degrees right now :-) We like to grill fish and veggie kabobs - zucchini, squash, onion, peppers. Now I want to email my husband and tell him to pick up some stuff to grill. I hope the thunderstorms hold off tonight!
Smoking really isn't that hard at all. It just takes lots of patience and equipment. We're smoking snobs and don't believe "smoking" on a regular grill is really "smoking". Hehe.
My husband built a smoker out of a old freezer; him & BIL (mainly husband) built a offset for BIL from raw materials. It's pretty freaking awesome.
I love smoked baby back ribs, pulled pork and brisket. We make our own rubs and hope to experiement with our own BBQ sauce this year. I've had a lot of smoked BBQ and believe my husband makes the best brisket!
80??? Get out of here! :)
@Miss Longcoat: not related, but I'm from Woodbridge!! My fam still lives there but I'm in Raleigh now.
We love doing burgers and steaks. I like to make my own marinades and dry rubs, and the best steaks we ever had were made with a weird marinade I threw together. It had everything from a dash of A1, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce and a bit of red wine vinegar, plus he made a dry rub with some really random things (I think maybe paprika, garlic powder, tiny bit of oregano...I mean it was random). And all veggies are delicious thrown on the grill in my opinion. :)
@PitBulLover: It was 86 here yesterday!! And I think it's around the same today. Yay for warm weather!
We loooove grilling! Tomorrow, we're grilling salmon steads with olive oil, lemon juice, tomatoes and onions. Yum! We also like to do a foil veggie pack on the gril with olive oil and fun herb seasonings. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
@Gerbera: Yes maam :-) It was in the 70s yesterday and today it is supposed to get up to 82!
I love grilling- we are going to switch from a gas grill to charcoal for better flavor soon. :)
tomorrow im grilling big shrimp kebabs and making saffron rice on the side.
@Evie19: LOVE the flavor of a charcoal grill! I never had it growing up and only tried it with my husband. When we have time to make sure the coals go out, we'll cook on a charcoal grill. My husband is the best charcoal griller around :o)
How can I forget about burgers! mmm...when we do burgers they are enormous. 90% lean ground beef seasoned up filled with minced onions & peppers with bacon, cheddar cheese, sauteed onions and mushrooms. Yum.
DEF charcoal all the way!
@Gerbera: That sounds delicious! Methinks I need to tell SO what's on the menu for tonight so he can stop at the store on the way home, lol. My favorite burger ever is made just by mixing in one of those Lipton's onion soup/dip mix packets plus A1 and Worchestershire sauce. Sounds weird but an ex's mom used to make them and I am hooked.
My favorite is veggies over the grill. I usually skewer a green, red, and orange pepper, button mushrooms, green olives, cherry tomatoes, and red onions. So delicious, but just one of each of those (and one container of mushrooms/tomatoes) feeds a LOT of people.
@2PeasinaPod: Yes! My Fi was always saying "if this were grilled on charcoal it'd be sooo much better" and I would roll my eyes, but he was right!
@twentyeleven: Small world! Yup, the weather here is gorgeous this week. We're in Northern Woodbridge, off Old Bridge.
NDBee, that sounds like a gorgeous veggie skewer!
@Miss Longcoat: I used to work off of Old Bridge, right before where it turns into PW Pkwy! And I lived off of Route 1, went to HS in Dumfries. So much is changing there, every time I go back I feel more lost. :/ But I still miss it, lol.
We have a charcoal grill. We much prefer the taste to gas grills. We'll start grilling in the next few weeks. It has finally warmed up her in southeast PA. We just do steaks, burgers and hot dogs and potatoes on the grill. I need to try more things this year. Grilled veggies sound delicious!!
Are you ready for some deliciousness?
Get yourself a beautiful flank steak.
Mix fresh squeezed lime juice, diced garlic, diced jalepeno, chopped cilantro, salt, pepper, olive oil, and water in a bowl. You can add any other spices that you love..sometimes I add adobo seasoning.
Throw the steak in a dish and cover it with the marinade in the morning. Then grill it that night, making sure it doesn't get more than medium. Let it sit for 10 min, then slice against the grain.
This is our absolute favorite thing to eat off the grill. Seriously amazing. Excellent with homemade refried beans.
Oh, and it's 94 degrees here today. Not even summer yet and it's sweltering!
Hehe, I love how all you bees are talking about 'grilling weather' at 80 or 90 degrees. Mr.ND told me to go 'grill grocery shopping' since it will be 'beautiful' this weekend....it's going to get to 55 degrees, maybe. I'm so jealous of you all :-)
Well, it's still about 40 degrees up here but I'm planning a "caveman" style steak cooked right on the coals and served rareish with the char all over it. Can't wait! BTW, this post is making me hungry: Vidalia onions, tri-tip-mmmm
@NDBee: Awww... I feel your pain. We've had a pretty cold spring so far, that's why we're so excited. The second it hit 50, we were all wearing dresses and short sleeved shorts to work at my office. Hahahah! Froze our butts off walking from the car to the building when it's 45 at 7am, but we looked good!

I don't know about you, but grilling season is just starting in Virginia. Fi made these RIDICULOUSLY huge chicken breasts last night... still eating the leftovers for lunch! I love grilling veggies and hot dogs/hamburgers.
Anyone else have any easy recipes for stuff to throw on the grill?
