Baby blankets are actually pretty easy - do you already know how to crochet? I make ivory ones made of a single repeating stitch for all my friends who have babies and they love them. I add a grosgrain ribbon border in either pink or blue, depending on the baby's gender. Shell patterns are simple and pretty. Key is to practice, and once you have nice even stitches, find a pretty, soft yarn that you'll feel good about wrapping around your little one :)
I don't have any sewing skills, so i'm no help there!
I don't have any sewing skills but I do love to do arts and crafts and my hubby likes to paint. My hubby painted a picture for her nursery and I am in the process of painting letters for her name. My mother has the sewing skills so she created the curtains.
Attached is one of the letters in my DD name that I painted...
I want to learn to knit hats and socks after I master the scarf I'm working on. It'd be a nice, quick way to send gifts to my girlfriends who get pregnant. Plus, super cute for photos =]
I did make this owl quilt for my friend, though!!!
wow, roddy, that is impressive! how did you do that?
I am not DIYing anything, but my mom is knitting a baby blanket :)
Oh I love baby crafting for friends, especially since baby stuff tends to knit up quickly, quilts can be crib sized, etc. I can't wait til it's my turn and I can use some of my stashed yarn and fabric for kiddies of my own. @ejs4y8: I LOVE that owl quilt!!
I don't know for sure yet - but I can't wait to start crafting. Once we get the nursery more cleaned out and the crib in there... and the closet organzier going I'll probably get more inspiration.
I'm definitely going to make a 'taggy' blanket. I saw a cute quilt pattern with the 'floppy' pinwheels the other day that would make a great top... then flannel on the back and ribbon all around. Will be fun.
Shortcake inspired me to make a 'countdown' - which I'm currently working on. We're now on day 96 or something in the countdown! I'll created the numbers with all my craft papers an velcro and post it on the nursery door - and everyday we can switch out the numbers as we get closer. Figure it'll be a fun thing to reuse to countdown to vacations and birthdays too once our little one is older.
This may not seem 'crafty' but we're going to hang picture wire as the decor in the nursery. At my shower I'm going to have folks color pages from an animal coloring book (and add notes) and hang those as the early nursery decorations. We can also hang cards and pictures from cousins and when our little one is older replace the decor with his/her own artwork.
I'm sure my mom will make a full size baby quilt.
I also plan to make the cute burb clothes out of cloth diapers. Where you add some fabric to the middle and some little things like that for the baby :)
If only I could quit my job an spend all my time planning and crafting!
@Janna - thanks! I am doing a different pattern/ design for every letter of her name, so I looked through different websites like etsy.com for ideas. Then all it took was a little time, effort and patience and it ia all working out. I will reveal the other letters, once the baby name has been revealed to the family.
Seriously though, it's the letters you can get from any craft store with acrylic paint and an imagination. I can't wait to hang them up in the nursery. Only 1 and half letters to go:)
I'm not as crafty as you all, apparently, but I plan on making a black and white mobile from my stamp/scrapbook type supplies.
I guess I'm waiting til we know the sex of the baby. Then... who knows! The nursery is pretty small and already in the color we'll keep, so there won't be much to do.
ejs--I love that owl quilt! It's really cute!
I'm making a quilt, a knit cap, name letters for the wall, sprucing up the baskets we're putting under the changing table, re-puposing a wall hanging as a pillow, sewed a blackout liner to the curtains, then sewed the valences to the curtains, making a changing table bumper, a diaper organizer to hang on the changing table, a stroller organizer/diaper bag, and a wall organizer. I'm thinking maybe I'll be done by the time she's three, LOL! I'll post pics when I have them!
I don't have any children and FH and I are waiting a little bit before TTC BUT I love to crochet for other people! And it just so happens that tons of people in my life have been having babies lately so here are a few of my favorites :) I have another blanket I made that's phenomenal but I can't find a picture of it :(

I'm itching to make something for our baby! I think I want to crochet a baby blanket but I'm pretty intimidated by the patterns. I also might sew some clothes or bedding if I can't find ones I like. What are you making for your baby? Post pictures!
