My favorites from the past year include:

Bossypants

Anything by David Sedaris (although his older books – Me Talk Pretty and Naked are the best)

Beautiful Ruins

Art Forger

Where’d you go Bernadette

Also anything by Mary Kay Andrews – her books are my guilty pleasure beach reads 🙂

I have heard good things about “How to be a Good Wife” (the novel, not the old ‘educational’ one), that’s next for me…but it may be a bit creepy for the beach?

I read a book by “Dilly Court” called the “Workhouse Girl.” I picked it up at LHA as a 2-for-1. It was easy to read.

Question for UK Bees – Is Dilly Court a well-respected author or are all of her books the same? I felt like maybe she just cranks out the same story line in all 5,000 novels. Anyone?

i read really fluffy chick lit romance…LOL if you want some easy breezy reading with catchy characters i suggest Kristan Higgins, i have read every single one of her books and pre order all the new ones lol so it’s safe to say i love her books.  If you like series, Shannon Stacey has a series called “the kowalskis” i believe its on book 9 now…i also love that series.  As for anything with substance, i really can’t help you there 😉

I like chick lit for beach reading. I saw there is a new Bridget Jones book. I just read “Wedding Night” by Sophie Kinsella and that was good.

Do you have an ereader/tablet?

If so, I would suggest Ken Follett. Pillars of the Earth and its sequel, World Without End are fantastic but are very long and packing them in a suitcase is cumbersome. I love my tablet for vacation reading.

Other great reads…

Lucia, Lucia by Adriana Trigiani.

Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson

Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear

The Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig

Thomas Lynley series by Elizabeth George

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Have a wonderful honeymoon and I hope you enjoy your books!

If you like Game of Thrones, you should try the Kingkiller Chronicles series. I just started it, and the first book is excellent so far!

Look up Barefoot by Elin Hildebrand. It’s the perfect beach read. Or any book by her 🙂

CanadianBride456:  This is totally not an academic book, but I’m re-reading Sisters by Danielle Steel. It’s about sisters dealing with a tragedy in their family around the 4th of July. I have sisters so I enjoy it even though it can be cliche at times. Another fun one is Tall Tales and Wedding Veils. It’s about a woman who goes to Vegas for her cousin’s bachelorette and ends up married to a guy from her hometown after a drunken night. It’s super funny and easy to read.

Have you read The Fault in Our Stars yet? Easy read, I recommend it to everyone just because I love it so much. Same with Amanda Lindhout’s A House in the Sky. Amazing.
