Over vacation this past weekend/early this week, I finished a really great book and then started and finished a GREAT book that Darling Husband got me for my birthday.
At the beach I finished “If You Were Here”, the first fiction novel by memoir writing Jen Lancaster. It was hilarious and different…about a couple who immerse themselves in the world of DIY-ing their newly purchased home. Even though I’m not a homeowner, I definitely watch some of the HGTV shows the main character references and she and her husband ametuer their way through some home repairs in the most hilarious way. Such a great read!
After that, I read “On The Island” by Tracey Garvis Graves. I’ve never before read a self-published novel, and the amazon reviews were almost overwhelmingly raves. It was SUCH a good story, and the whole book was entirely different than I expected. It has been a long time since I read such a story that totally drags you in, but this book was so satisfying and wonderful to read, I thorougly enjoyed it.
Now, I’m reading Jen Lancaster’s memoir “Bitter Is the New Black”. I’m enjoying her–she’s a very witty writer.
Have you read any of these, and if so, what did you think? What are you reading now and do you recommend it?
