one of the dresses i'm probably wearing that's kind of romantic and vintage-y:
http://www.express.com/chiffon-split-sleeve-smocked-waist-dress-32895-22.pro

Black sweater type top, jeans, fav pair of boots! Definitely not romantic, but we're casual people.
Depending on what top you wear, pencil skirts (high waisted) can be romantic & vintage feeling.
@.twist.: Similar story here :-) I'm going for a romantic, vintagey wedding, but day-to-day we're pretty casual, and I wanted my epics to reflect that.
I wore a black sweater, black cords, and my favorite scarf. I was worried about blending into the woods but it worked out fine...it's an outfit I wear a lot normally, so I felt more comfortable and more like myself despite the pressure of a strange man taking photos.

Yes please I need ideas too! My engagement shoot is tomorrow!
my photog recommended something classic with muted colors.
I went with a navy sundress and FI wore jeans and a light blue shirt. (sorry no pics on this computer)
Probably the best advice is to find something you feel pretty and comfortable in. Becuz how you feel will affect how your pictures turn out. Oh and wear nice shoes! i wore cute grey heels and my photog took a million "shoe pictures"
I didn't read and consequently didn't follow any of the rules and our photographer was just a friend but here's what I wore. I just wanted something with lots of color because I thought (and think) it would make for better pictures. I also liked the way it tied into our butterfly theme.

@Running Elley: thanks! i figure with my fav brown boots and loosely curled hair it'll have a soft, flowy vibe. plus, you can make it hang off of your shoulder, so maybe that'll give us some sweet options. then i'll wear something harder (pinkish-red dress with black jacket and biker boots) for another outfit and then a tight black dress with a red peacoat and funky black heels for some of the other pictures - variety! variety! :]
I have two outfits picked out. The first is my favorite jeans, gold flats, a purple Anthropologie "corset" strapless top with a yellow sash, and a blue chandelier necklace. The 2nd is a navy dress with black tights and black pumps. Not sure what kind of necklace I will wear with it.
We had two outfits. My first dress was romantic and vintagey:
My second dress was flowy with a few ruffly details at the neck and back, with a silver belt.
I just had my engagement shoot yesterday!
We had two outfits - 1 was more romantic: a navy blue dress, cream cardigan. He wore an olive shirt, khaki pants and a navy blue cardigan

The second outfit was more casual: I wore my Vegetarian tee and jeans, he wore a baseball style long sleeve shirt and jeans:
We determined the look of our outfits based on the location in which we shot. We did an urban setting, a "little town" setting and a beach setting and changed our outfits accordingly. We stuck with bold colors and simple prints, and things that were flattering.
I suggest that you can either look at engagement photos that you like (of the same style) or to google engagement photos in that area to see how others styled themselves. Good luck! and have fun!
@missmichigan: :D thank yeeeeeeeeeeeew I can't stop myself from picspamming them lol
We did a 1940s theme and this is what we wore... very romantic...

I'm wearing this dress with cute yellow pumps to match the belt (FYI dress is navy and ivory, this picture of the model makes it look black and white):
and for my more casual outfit this top with jeans and black pumps:
I was pretty casual. A pink sweater and dressy denim jeans. I also had a hairpiece, purpleish flowers headband!

We just took our's on Saturday (this is just a small sneak peak my photographer sent me so I could add caption words to the heart). I wore an ivory sleeveless Suzi Chin for Maggy London dress with rosette detailing on the skirt, which I got on sale for $70. The sweater was just a pink cardigan I got on clearance at Macy's for $15.00 - it has a cute starburst beading pattern on the chest.

Thanks ladies! I went shopping yesterday and couldn't find a thing! I'm freaking out!
We did 3 outfits! My 1st was a army green dress with boots, then we did a baseball theme pic (we are HUGE baseball fans) and our last was flannel because its my FI FAVORITE thing to wear ever! LoL Here are ours:
(my daughter was messing my hair up in this pic! LoL)
Hey girls... I just thought I'd post this in case anyone was looking for what to wear. I'm a photographer. Muted colors work really well. Wear something that you're comfortable in! If you're uncomfortable or wearing 5 inch heels that you haven't broken in, it will show! Think about where you're taking pictures. Don't wear heels if you're going to be in a field. You will sink in the dirt if the ground is soft!
Nice jeans always look great for engagement photos, especially with a really cute top! Pops of color and great shoes can really give photos some extra goodness! Plus this might be somewhat of a personal thing, but I've noticed bright red can blow out really bad, so if you must have red, save it for the accessories! A little goes a long way!
Coordinate what you're wearing, but don't be too matchy-matchy. You don't want to look like you just stepped out of a bad family christmas photo. :) hehe
Another thing... don't wait to color your hair until two days before the shoot. If for some reason it comes out bad, you don't want to be stuck with photos of your hair looking awful!
Have fun, and work the camera! If you're having fun, it will show, and if you let yourself let go and get lost in the moment, having fun with your fiance, then your pictures will be 100% better and even more YOU!!
