I am on a serious music discovery kick right now and I'd love to hear what you're favorite songs are right now so I can add them to my playlists!

Right now, according to Last.fm, my most played songs (not all new to me songs, but some are) in the past week are:

    1.) Meadowlarks by Fleet Foxes

2.) Little Yellow Spider by Devendra Banhart

3.) Open Season by High Highs

4.) Lost in My Mind by The Head and the Heart

5.) For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilant by Sufjan Stevens

Obviously, I am into acoustic, folksy music :)

just out of curiousity, where do you usually discover  new music? I have actually not heard of any of your top songs, even those artists so just wondering where people find these new sounds.

I'd tell you my top 5, but I am on a quite embarrasing top 40 kick at the moment.

@kerensa:  Pandora. There is anything and everything in the category department. You can choose channels based off of soundtracks, genres, artists, even single songs.

@kerensa:  I also love Last.Fm.  It's kind of like Pandora in that it gives you recommendations based off music that you like and listen too.  But I love Last.fm because it tracks what you listen to through many other music services such as itunes, windows media player, grooveshark and such.  I love the weekly, monthly and overall charts.  I also listen to stuff I like on Youtube and go through the recommended videos on the sidebar to find new stuff.

@kerensa:  Also, if you listen to only one of these bands/musicians, I would most recommend Sufjan Stevens for just pure beautiful music.  He is an amazing, super talented musician.  Fleet Foxes is actually my favorite band right now, but it took a few listens for their style to grow on me and it might sound too "weird" for some.

@robotpolkadot:  Oh yes, I have Sufjan's entire discography!  I think he is a brilliant musician and I totally love his sound.  I like you're taste, too.  I had never heard of Lana Del Rey until the apparent SNL fiasco (which I didn't think was that bad?) and I looked up some of her other songs.  I think she sounds great!

@MrsMaine:  I haven't heard any of these except the last one.  I love Adele!  What a fabulous singer she is.

    "Dear Friends"- Elbow

"Somebody That I Used to Know"- Gotye

    "One and Only"- Adele

"You're a Tourist"- Death Cab for Cutie

"Roll Away Your Stone" Mumford and Sons

If you don't know Elbow... you should. They're amazing!!! I saw them open for Coldplay in Toronto in 2009 and then my sister and I saw them headlining their own show in Toronto this past September. They are amazing live!

@grapefruitgal:  I have not heard Elbow before!  I will go give them a listen, thank you for the suggestion!

So, last night, I heard the MOST beautiful cover I have ever heard in my life.  It's a cover of Fleet Foxes' Tiger Mountain Peasant Song.  It might be better than the original and I do not say that lightly - I am a HUGE FF fan.  Listen to this guys!  It's actually kind of old, and I probably am late on this bandwagon, but whatever.
