We are doing a wine theme, so we are doing "cabernet & champagne" which basically equates to deep red and colors ranging from ivory to taupe. Black will be incorporate as well, a nod to FI's black and red alma mater.
So funny - that happened to me too! My fiance was in his sister's wedding... and just somehow "forgot" that here colors were red, black and white and main flower was a rose. When I was talking to her on the phone, it went something like this:
FSIL - So, have you guys decided on colors?
Me - Yeah! We really like just black, white and a deep red.
FSIL - Really? Those were my colors. What color are the BM dresses?
Me - Black.
FSIL - We had that too.
Me - Oh. Well, we'll be accenting it with some black magic and red roses to give some color
FSIL - Yeah, I did that too.
IMAGINE how I felt! We're still using the same colors anyway, as I figure these colors are pretty common in winter weddings and I honestly had never seen a wedding photo of hers before, so she knows I'm not copying. But it would have been nice for my finace to step in and say "oh hey, my sister did that exact same thing!" He claims to have forgotten, which could be very possible seeing as he forgets most wedding details. His memory chip must be broken! :)
I really like the chocolate brown and green combo, and wanted to have warm colors in our fall wedding, but do something with a unique flair, that wasn't necessarily the first color scheme to come to mind.
I played with color combos on Brides.com Color Studio and on David's Bridal Dress Your Wedding to came up with a coppery orange, a dark marine blue, and chocolate brown accents. (3 bridesmaids in the copper-color dress, 2 in the blue, and all with the same chocolate brown bolero and sash tied at the waist to tie it all together.) It looks great on my monitor, but the colors of the dresses looked different in person, so we still need to figure out what designer(s) will help us create the look I have in mind. I'm grateful for the tool though; it was fun to play and I never would have chosen these colors on my own!
Good luck!
Oops, the link for Brides Color studio didn't work...here it is! And the David's Bridal link will work, but goes to the home page, not the Dress Your Wedding feature. You'll find it on the lower right side of the page.
I chose to have my MOH wearing apple red and the other girls are going to be in black. I thought I was going to have pastel colors but then realized that those would not look good on many of my girls so I chose something that they would all look nice in. They are empire waist chiffon dresses for all body types. Good luck you'll figure it out and be happy with your choice, I'm sure of it!

So, I had already picked my wedding colours: chocolate brown with a green accent. And then we go over to my FMIL's house tonight and I decided to go through FBIL's wedding pictures to get ideas and lo and behold i see my wedding colours to be: chocolate and green!!! It would have been nice if my lovely fiance (who btw was the best man!!!) had actually paid even a little attention at the wedding so we could have avoided this crisis in the first place but anyways...knowing my SIL to be, if i still used those colours she would never leave me alone and would hold a grudge forever. So in order to keep peace in the family I am once again on the hunt for a colour combo that I love.
So, what colours are you gals using?
