Don't get me wrong, I love me a good classic like A Christmas Story, It's A Wonderful Life, etc.
But just wonderng what are some of your favorite "non classic" holiday movies?
Some of mine include Elf with Will Ferrell and The Holiday with Cameron Diaz. Love Actually is one of those that I've yet to watch the whole movie in one sitting!
Do Share!
The Santa Clause with Tim Allen the original not the subsequent ones. I also like Christmas with the Kranks also with Tim Allen. Looks like I'm a Tim Allen fan maybe lol.
I can't believe I forgot about that one! Love that one!
ETA: Playing on Comedy Central tonight at 630pm, set to record! hehe
@zippylef: I love Christmas Vacation! My favorite movie! :)
This isn't really a Christmas movie, but I love to watch Uncle Buck around this time of the year. It's a really funny movie.
@zippylef: Hahahaha. That is pretty hysterical.
One of my favorites is Elf. I know I have more, but my brain isn't working yet.
Home For The Holidays with Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. It is technically a Thanksgiving movie I guess, but we always watch it at some point between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
@expecting rain: That's my DH's favorite too, lol.
Elf for sure. Nightmare Before Christmas is fun. We're No Angels. Scrooged. Shop Around the Corner.
One Magic Christmas. My mom and I used to watch it every year at Christmas time, and it's still one of my faves!
@zippylef: We always watch that when decorating our tree. It's one of the most quoted movies around our house.
Christmas Story is another one we watch a lot, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles get's watched between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
@eeniebeans: Home For the Holidays is one of my friend's top holiday movies too. I have never seen it. I'll have to add it to the list this year.
@AnneTossy:Another one for Just Friends!
FI and I discovered that movie before we started dating and at that point in time it was like exactly our story..now we watch it every Christmas!
What's traditional? Rudolph? Frosty? The Grinch? The Nutcracker (with Gelsey Kirkland and Mikhail Baryshnikov)? Miracle on 34th St? Ok, I watch all those.
I love the one's mentioned - National Lampoon's, Elf. How about Planes, Trains, and Automobiles? I also love Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas. Still have it on VHS.
Love Actually, The Holiday and Serendipity :) Serendipity isn't really a Christmas movie but it feels like Christmas to me!
Elf and Home Alone would probably have to be my non-traditional favorites.
Christmas Vacation is my fav of all time, Love Actually is a close second. Also love Elf, Home Alone, The Santa Claus, scrooged (usually just catch on tv)... and of course A Christmas Story! (but we always watch that on tbs on christmas day)
I can't get enough of holiday movies! I really like the cartoon versions of A Christmas Carol like the muppets one and the old tv version that has Mickey and the other Disney characters in it.
I just remembered Disney's "A Christmas Carol." That one is my favorite!
The new Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone, and Prancer. Prancer is so cheesey, but I love it!
@imalittlebirdie: OH MY GOSH!!! That is how my family starts Christmas season ever year over Thanksgiving break. I love it!
Love Actually is great, as so many of you are saying! I also love Bridget Jones's Diary, which isn't techinically a Christmas movie but it begins and ends on Christmas so I tend to count it anyway.
I also love The Snowman. It makes me cry but that's okay. :)
I love This Christmas and Four Christmases!
Edit: And ELF, of course! Love that movie!
Love Actually and The Holiday! Oh, and Muppet Christmas Carol! I love Christmas movies!
Love Actually! And When Harry Met Sally. That's not a classic yet, right?
Christmas Vacation is definitely #1. I love Elf and Home Alone too. I also just LOVE the cheesy made for TV ones they show on Lifetime, Hallmark, and ABC Family. I could seriously spend a whole weekend in Dec on the couch watching them. I have the DVR set up to record like 20 of them right now!
another vote for Elf.. gosh darn side splitting Hialrious!!
Last Holiday with Queen Latifah, The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet
I thought of another one. Just watched the Polar Express. Special to me because it's based on my hometown :-)
For years i would watch When Harry Met Sally when I put up the christmas tree.
