What are your favors or ideas for favors? We have three different ones...M&Ms in a little heart containers, a $1 lotto ticket with a 2010 penny, and a heart shaped soft pretzel. What do you think Hive?! What are you doing, what have you done or seen done?
I love the pretzel idea. :)
I've been throwing around a lot of ideas, but our budget is tight to the point of bursting so we're probably going to skip favors.
Personally, I'm lost on the pretzels ... but I love love love the lotto ticket idea ...
Here are some of my ideas:
http://morelovinthaniveeverhad.blogspot.com/2009/10/favors.html
Alisha the soft pretzels are hugh in Philadelphia and Im having the Pretzel bakery make them into heart shapes! Also my fiances grandpa used to own a pretzel bakery and my dad was a manager at a pretzel bakery so they mean a lot to Philly and our family! At first we were just going to do one thing and it turned into three! And were going to skip doing the OOT bags since we have three favors.
Marigold I think not having favors or having them doesnt matter either way. This was just something for us to do and thought the lotto ticket would be fun for people to see if they win money! And the pretzels have meaning!! LOL!
Dessert take home bar! Those are our favors. Love the pretzels though! :)
Cinemaparadiso you mean like a Candy buffet right with bags for them to take some home? I love the look of candy bars with matching colors...are you matching colors? Yeah I made up cute tags with a pretzel on them and it says, "Tie the Knot with Us!"
Nope, no candy buffet--like gourmet cookies, truffles, homemade candies and the like! They're all going to be very rich and while they wont "match," they have themed names to go with our theme!
Given what you've just told us about how pretzels have personal meaning to your family and to your hometown, I say definitely go with those!
We're doing cookies from a family recipe! And as a fellow Philly gal I must say I LOVE the pretzel idea.
As of now, we're planning on a candy buffet! And I think the pretzel idea is amazing!
o gourmet cookies sounds yummy! At first I thought you meant something like that and then I thought candy buffet because a lot of people do those. That sounds great.
Thanks Million!
Aww I love that everyone loves the pretzel idea!! :) Thanks ladies!
I was so unsure and had tons of ideas but in Martha Stewart Weddings(!) I saw gorgeous beeswax candles and now I really want to do that :)
We're giving take-home gable boxes to fill with the goodies from the dessert buffet (candy, caramel apples, cupcakes, Buckeyes, maple sugar candy, pumpkin spice donuts, etc) and acrylic frames for their photo strips from the photo booth.
Caramel and chocolate-covered apples with white chocolate drizzle.
Yummy ideas ladies...now Im getting hungry! I want a caramel covered apple and a soft pretzel and a cupcake!
Oh philly soft pretzels! Im jealous of that idea!
We're doing something edible, I havent figured out what yet,
I love love love the pretzels! We had a candy bar and a popcorn bar. It got messy but it was a big hit! And we had popcorn for the next month - mmmmmm. And everything was somewhat local! Originally, I wanted a kettle corn cooker person at the wedding, but it didn't fly with the families. Ya gotta do the pretzels!
@DMarie: Love the lotto tickets, would you mind sharing where you got those cute little envelopes for them?
I dunno what to do about favors or if I even want to budget for them..... do poeple actually care or appreciate it?
I have always liked the idea of a candy bar but we are having a very small ceremony and reception ...less than 50 ppl and mostly adults so i dont know how well that would fly
2010bridetobee I found that pic online and havent gotten ours yet but I think Michaels arts and craft store carries them or something like them. Just googled them and found this:
My sister works as a brewmaster and she is making a custom microbrew to bottle for everyone. We're calling it the "I Do Brew"
Mermaid thats an awesome idea! So cool that your sister is making it! :)
Better yet, we get to taste test as she perfects the recipe. FI is realllly looking forward to that part.
I am still uncertain if I even want to do favors
I am thinking of fans.. either purchased or handmade paddle fans... We will probably put a small monogram at the bottom (yes yes i know lol) and perhaps and quote or a poem of some sort on it
Cookies ( i do these in my christmas baskets every year big hit)- nothing fancy I plan to make a variety of homemade cookies place about 8 small cookies in a ziplock bag... you then take a paper lunch bag cut the bottom out of it... place the zip lock back inside.. fold the edges of the paper bag back and tape underneath it then put some ribbon or fabric scraps or even scrapbook paper stripes around it... they care cute they are simple and they are inexpensive.
You couple put a little tag with a cute quote
Does that make sense? I will try to find a picture of the cookie bags
I had chocolate menus made to double as favors and they were a hit and tasted great! I ordered them from www.chocolategraphicstn.com . Now lets see if I can post the pic, I may have to resize it first......

As you can see, our initial was the T and then we listed the salads, main courses (it was a buffet) and the dessert. Plus it was a way to jazz up having a buffet vs sit down dinner!

My mom makes homemade strawberry jam every year so we bought mini canning jars & are going to make a weekend of making these favors! :)
I love the pretzel idea, with its special meaning to you. :)
We had candy flowers that my sister (a chef) made for us. They were yummy but so pretty that a lot of people didn't want to eat them, lol...
These are my favorite ideas for favors:
- Anything edible (extra points if it's a homemade family recipe, like cookies, jam, etc.)
- Little bottles of olive oil or spices for cooking (everyone could use that)
- Little bottles of maple syrup for fall weddings
- Wine bottle stoppers - it's the one "thing" I could get as a favor, and totally use
We did a candy bar, because we're both candy-crazed. People loved it - it was gone before our reception was over.
@Britt818 - Those menus are awesome! A friend of mine did something similar and they were a huge hit!
@Mermaid 1082 - I LOVE that idea! Beer would be an amazing favor.
We did really nice OOT bags for all the guests and then had a basket of pashminas at the reception for the ladies, in case they got chilly.
We did little with galvinized buckets with candy that had our name and wedding date on it. It went well with our upscale barbecue theme.
aww the pretzel idea is cute...
@future mrs.q we are doing the same..getting our families together and making some homeade apple jelly, putting it in canning jars, making our own labels and decorating them to fit the wedding theme. They look super nice and are surprisingly really cheap to do! Plus i love the homade idea, the guests will feel very appreciated.
I love some of these ideas!
We are doing favour boxes covered with printed out sonnets (a la Martha Stewart), tied with silk string with people's names spelled out in glass beads on the end, so these will double as place names. The boxes will have Anzac biscuits (traditional Australian biscuits) in them, as a nod to my heritage.
I've always wanted to use the lottery ticket idea. How exciting would it be if someone won a decent amount of money?? SO exciting!
We also "toy"ed with the idea of hiding a pair of sports tickets under one chair at each table. Although EVERY guest wouldn't get a favor, it would definitely be a favor to remember!
