I love the pretzel idea. But then, I adore hot, soft, buttery pretzels. :)
My fiance and I love to cook together and I bake a lot (my family complains I'm trying to make them fat), so we'll probably make cookies to give away. These are very inexpensive, so I can manage them even on my tiny budget.
Another favor idea I've been playing with is fine art prints. I'm a photographer, so I was thinking of taking photographs of things that are meaningful to my love and I, but that other people could appreciate as art (the swingset where he proposed to me, the carousel at the State Fair we love to ride together, etc.). I've just started looking for really cheap wood frames on Craigslist and places. We'll paint them white and then pop the photos in. Very cheap, very personal, but something useful. (Just one per family - not one per person.) Aaaannnd . . . we can use them in our wedding decor.
I LOVE the pretzel idea, but am wondering if it would get stale overnight? I usually don't want to eat again after leaving a wedding, and might want to save it. Although, honestly, my pretzel experience is very limited, so maybe they WOULD get eaten right away? Anyhow, just something to think about.
We're making chocolate suckers, shaped like flowers, for our garden wedding. I'm going to put them in a pot with some wheat grass.
Hopefully suckers similar to this, except standing upright:
We are doing M&M's (I cleared out the walmart supply of breast cancer ones...pink!). And im also doing pie favors....pie on a stick. sounds funny but its num num num and cute
The lottery ticket idea with the 2010 penny is super cute. I love the idea.
We are doing flip flops in our wedding colors ~ fuschia and tangerine orange. Those will be available near the dance floor. We are going to do another favor that we can leave at thier table as well but I'm not sure what yet..... This thread has been great for ideas tho!
we're making homemade cookies. we're having some in the shape of wedding cakes, and chocolate pixies.

i am still not sure if we are doing favors or not, but i live by flathead lake and we have the best cherries...most of my guest are from OOT so i thought it would be nice to show them some MT treats...
For our garden wedding, we want to do some sort of plantable favor. They might just end up being tags made out of plantable paper that we will tie around the napkins at each place setting -- since our budget is diminishing. Other ideas are packets of wildflower seeds. Or little flower pots with seeds that are all ready to go -- just add water.
My FI and I have decided to make a donation to a Breast Cancer Research organization since I am finishing up my chemotherapy currently. We think most guests will appreciate this gesture and it will help make a difference!
We are doing bottle koozies - I created a logo that we are going to have printed on them. We wanted to do something that people might actually want and possibly use again - and we figured that one can never have too many koozies! :)
I can't remember where I saw them, but someone had the most adorable small boxes with a single pink-frosted, sprinkled donut -- the theme was The Simpsons. They were so cute. We had a brunch wedding and went with honey jars! Small enough for the airplane, and delicious enough to eat. We had personalized labels, and used the honey sticks as place cards.

Anyone have experience making chocolate molds? We are doing chocolate golf ball favors (being that I love love chocolate and my fiance is hardcore golfer). I'm nervous I'm going to screw it up! Those are what we are planning as favors.
My friends are gonna make personalized cookies using Williams-Sonoma's Message-in-a-cookie-cutters!!!

Here's an article about it on a blog.
Tonya- My wedding is in OCt and I was thinking about candy apples too.
