I have only ever lived in Central Florida, and love springtime here because everything starts blooming. Since I've lived nowhere else, I'm not sure what is blooming around the country. What are the first blooms of spring where you live?

Here's ours (and they are everywhere right now!):

    Dogwood

Ha. ha. ha. Apparently 10 cm of snow is a sign that spring is soon near.

But seriously, when all the snow starts melting.

We have the daffodils, the dogwood, and then the forsythia!

It's true spring when the forsythia bloom.

First, I see daffodils coming up.... then I am an itching, crying, sniffling, sneezing, swollen-eyed mess because of those stupid Bradford Pear trees that I am almost deathly allergic to.  Right now I can feel my eyes getting slightly itchy which is the first sign of doom.  Curse you allergies!  Why can't I enjoy the beautiful spring?!

@PitBulLover: Birds chirping is my favorite first sign, they're so cute and I miss them in the winter!  (Except for that one f*ing bird that loves to chirp screech outside my window at 5am.  He's a jerkface.)

I think that the first bloom that we get up here is the Dandilions!  The sad part is that by that time I am so sick of snow and cold that I am actually happy to see them.

@sceeder:  I totally get how you are feeling!

@LaurenK0105: i HATE the Bradford Pear trees!! Why are they all over the entire DC area? Once you smell the Bradford Pear you know it is spring. You also know you should buy a pair of nose plugs or something because its terrible! They are very pretty but boy do they stink!

There are these trees on the way to work (I seriously have no idea what they are) that tend to bud and flower before anything else does. I seriously start watching those branches in late February to reassure myself that Spring is definitely coming!

As I kid I loved winter--you got to play in the snow and there was the possibility of school closing! As an adult winter is a miserable depressing nusiance (unless we're talking about skiing!).

    Come on spring!

@PitBulLover: Holy crap I know!  Whoever the city planner was, I would like to shoot him for picking Bradford Pear.  The street I grew up on is lined with them so much so that I had to miss a day or 2 of school every spring because I would wake up with my eyes swollen shut!  No amount of allergy meds could save me.  I wish they weren't so pretty though; beauty has it's price I guess.

@helenberrycrunch: I had to look up Forsythia. It's really pretty...we don't have those here. Also, it's way too hot for daffodils here, as well as most bulbs. Sometimes Gladiolus will make it, though.

@sceeder: Awww. I'm sorry. I figured there must still be Bees stuck in winter weather somewhere, but I'm just so happy about Spring. It's actually quite early here this year (my wisteria is already blooming and my camellias still haven't finished from winter), so maybe you're not as far behind as you think. :)

Yea....I'm looking out my window at the rapidly falling snow and thinking that our signs of spring are somewhere months and months in the future. But please keep posting beautiful blooming flower pictures so that I can live vicariously through you warm-weather bees! Laughing

The first sign is the wonky 75 degree afternoons in late February. Usually lasts about a week, then it's back to brrrr worthy temps. After that, it's the dogwoods blooming, and after that, there's the yellow fog and dust everywhere :)  Gotta love pine pollen.

I finally noticed the pond in back our of condo has completely thawed this morning and duckies were swimming around in it! It made me so hopeful that we might be passed all of the snow (knock on wood)!

@PitBulLover: A friend of mine calls those "semen trees" because he thinks that's what they smell like haha. I can't say I entirely agree with that description but they do smell awful.

First signs of spring around here are...rain, cold rain, snow overnight that melts in the morning when it rains, birds chirping occasionally in the rain, the rivers flooding due to snow melting + rain, one beautiful weekend when everyone plants their gardens, and then an unseasonable frost a week later that kills them all off. We don't start getting flowers until after Easter usually. Daffodils, tulips, lilac trees, and forsythia (my favorite!). The tulips are starting to poke some leaves up in the beds outside my office...I can't wait until their little heads are up!

@PitBulLover: interesting, my SO has really bad allergies where he's from (towards pittsburgh, pa) semi-bad ones where i am from (in jersey) but nothing down here. i guess he's not allergic to those. but he's VERY allergic to ragweed which there doesn't seem to be any of down here. it doesn't come out till august/late summer i think.

@kittybean: weird! I live in Falls Church and I have terrible allergies every year but I dont think its to the Bradford Pear trees - just general seasonal allergies I guess.

@DesireeAnne: me too! They were going crazy this morning when I woke up and when I was leaving my house - it made me so happy!
