Each year, we celebrate Dec. 31 quietly, have a nice dinner together and go to bed early. On January 1st, we're up very early and we're energized to start the new year, while everyone else is sleeping or hungover. We stroll a little bit in the streets: everything's so quiet and we're the only ones awake and in good shape! It's very special! Then we go back hope and make it a movie day, usually we watch the three Lord of the Ring movies back to back!
We buy an ornament everytime we travel somewhere. It's special because we have a goal to travel to all 50 states together. We made it to 20 this year alone (thank you, road trip!). We forgot to buy ornaments in a few states, so he'll be getting a couple ornaments from me tomorrow that I ordered online for those states. :-) I really like your tradition.
This is our first Christmas together, but we are going to start it off right by making crabcakes. I think that may become our traditional Christmas meal!
@sunnydebs - That's awesome! How many states do you have left?
I wish I had the time off work and money to knock out a road trip. It's always been a dream of mine. My FI and I have discussed that when we move next - who knows when, I just told him I need to live in at least 1 more state before we really settle down - I want to make a road trip out of it! Love the ornament idea too! I always love getting ornaments to represent trips I've taken.
Yum yum for crabcakes! A few years ago, my aunt made crabcakes and steak for Christmas dinner and it was awesome. There's a place close to Baltimore that makes HUGE and meaty crabcakes that are sooo delicious. It was easily one of my best Christmas dinners ever.
We make a cheeseball. Usually we make one each for our seperate work Christmas parties, and then we make one to take to dinner on Christmas.
I always bake him oatmeal cookies (he never gets them any other time of year from me, haha... aww, i should change that) and we exchange gifts on the 23rd, before we have to deal with his birthday (24th) and Christmas with our families!
we're jewish. we spend our christmas at a theme park, because it's pretty empty, and it's what i always did growing up. then we go eat chinese.
When we get home from our families' parties tonight we'll watcj Elf in bed with my seven year old and after she's asleep and once we're done playing "Santa" we'll turn off all the lights except for the Christmas tree and enjoy each others company on the coach while listening to our favortie Christmas CDS. This is truly my favorite day of the year!!!!

My FI and I started a tradition this year where we would give each other an ornament that represents something we did during the year. We were both so excited about it that we gave each other our ornament last night . . . and we got each other the same thing! It was almost a gift giving FAIL!
We agreed to regift the extra ornament to a friend of ours who was also involved in what the ornament represented (it was a white water rafting santa and elves, we got it because we take a white water rafting trip every year and this year we did one of the biggest rivers in WV).
So, what are your holiday traditions with your SO?
