@Diamond84:  I have not been to a wedding with a cover band. However, I have been to events where a cover band played and I loved it. I guess it depends, I would have both, cover band and DJ but that might be pricey. As for the difference between “wedding band” and “cover band”… Maybe the latter specialises on the music of a certain band (e.g. Queen Cover Band)?

We had a 90s dance band who did covers of all the 90s classics (rhythm of the night, basement jaxx, fresh prince etc) and our guests LOVED it.

Our family and friends are well into 90s songs, though, and our band were just incredible.

I just think the atmosphere was so much better with a band – really got the energy going.

That being said, our DJ kicked off the night with songs we’d chosen and everyone was up dancing straight away. Our DJ then mixed in his own choice of songs and he was really spot on in judging the audience. We were lucky our DJ was really good, but the band were what everyone was talking about.

I have been to weddings where the DJs have been just awful and the dance floor was empty. I have also been to weddings though where the band has been awful and no one was dancing…. guess it’s just about getting the best you can, band OR DJ.

I would enquire as to whether or not they will play for weddings, and if they have done it before. It’s different to gigging at clubs and they will need all their own PA equipment and lights (which sometimes Cover bands don’t have if they are using venue equipment).

Ours weren’t a wedding band, but they were still mega professional and had all their own stuff.

If you go for a band, though – make sure you see them live before you book! xx

@Diamond84:  aw damnit. I forgot I wanted to get FI’s favorite cover band for the wedding. Theyre local and cheap. And I forgot. Until I saw this thread. Naturally the wedding is in 9 days
