@tcacciato:

I think it’s really just a trial and error sort of thing. I’ve never had an issue on Tri-sprintec (the generic of try-cyclen) but I know some people who have. I tried yaz awhile ago and it gave me the worst headaches ever. Your obgyn could probably point you in the right direection as to what kind of pill to take.

This is also a pretty good website:

A bunch of info on how to skip or delay your period (which is not what you are asking about) but if you scroll down the page a bit there is a list of links that have to do with different birth control pills as well as some nifty birth control related links.

I take a mini-pill (progestin only, no estrogen) b/c my body is really sensitive to extra estrogen (migraines, weight gain, no sex drive, the whole 9). I’ve been on it for about 8 months and LOVE it! It also helped clear up my skin, which I think is just a positive side effect it happened to have on me because my old one made it 100x worse! there’s no difference in the amount of protection you get from the mini vs. regular BC pill, and there’s no “off” week- you just take the pill all 28 days and I usually get very light spotting for 3 days in the last week. good luck!

@NJForever:  I take the mini-pill also, and so far so good!  No complaints, except I find that I’ve had a low sex drive for a while, but maybe it’s not caused by the pill…

I take it because of a blood disorder I have, where I’m more susceptible to clotting.

@MsGolightly: my sex drive was so low when I was on the combo pill- I think now that I’m on the mini it’s back to normal, if not increased a little! Or maybe I’m just so relieved that it’s not as low as it was, it seems higher. Oh well, FH definitely isn’t complaining 😉
