My daughter is hopeless in the face of having her butt patted quite aggressively. She has been since she was born! If she’s upset for whatever reason, if I hold her on her back and pat her butt with my free hand, she will slowly start to fall asleep. It’s great for when we’re traveling and I can’t do her usual bedtime routine — just butt-taps until she can’t hold her eyes open anymore. I’m still waiting for Graco to invent a butt-tapping machine … I mean, they have swings and cradles and bouncers and rockers … why not a butt-tapper??

Our secret weapon for getting LO to sleep: walking on the treadmill. It actually makes tons of sense: the walking creates a rocking motion, there is white noise from the motor . . . 5 minutes is usually all it takes to knock her out. *Maybe* ten if she’s really worked up.

iarebridezilla:  I am a pediatric nurse and as weird as it sounds almost every baby loves the butt pat!

My youngest DD (out of 3) loved the vaacum as baby. It would out her right to sleep, and then she got older and it terrified her.

Since birth my 4 month old has loved the song 3 Little Birds by Bob Marley. When he’s calm and I sing it to him he just gets this faraway look and relaxes. If he’s freaking out (mostly in the car needing to sleep) he stops immediately and is often asleep in under a minute. It happens all the time but I’m still totally charmed by it every time. He loves a punky reggae party!

With you all on the butt pat. DS has always liked that. My husband also has this strange thing of holding his face really close to DS’s and exhaling heavily in his face. Puts him to sleep every time, but doesn’t work if I do it!

My babies love the vacuum and if they’re really worked up either a hardcore CD or a dubstep CD anything with a bit of bass and they’re flat out sleeping in less than 2 mins!! All 3 of them are the same! Probably doesn’t help that we are music mad!!

My  almost 3 month old loves when I sing Jim Croces Bad Bad Leroy Brown! He could be screaming bloody murder and as soon as I start singing that he calm down. No other song will do either. It cracks me up every time.

The hair dryer. Looking at herself in the mirror always makes her smile too. She will throw a fit if you pull her away lol. I think we have a vain baby on our hands!
