So, I am not a material oriented person. I have never really cared about having expensive things or alot of “toys”. I love Jewelry, and I stalk the ring boards pretty regularly to see all the beautiful sparklies. While there have been some rings that I would love to have if I ever win the lottery(I’m looking at you, Canary Diamond), none of them make me love my ring less or feel like I’m missing something. The same goes for the dress board. I love the expensive gowns I see posted there, but I don’t feel bad about them not being in my budget or appropriate for my small vow renewal.
I’ll be honest though……The Bees who talk about amazing vacations or destination honeymoons…..you guys get me all shades of green. I really, really want to travel. In fact, I’m hoping I can be a travel nurse in the next few years, and I have always dreamed of doing medical missionary work.
Before I became the responsible adult I am now, I thought following the Grateful Dead was a legitimate career path, LOL. Jerry died and my dream died with him.
So, what brings out your green eyed monster on the Bee?

@Bridey77: It’s a bit of green-eyed monster mixed with frustration that some bees seem to give themselves nosebleeds with their holier than thou approach with money.
Case in point – bees seeming to be really insufferable on the “would you go ito debt for your wedding” thread. It’s an entire thread of snark. I suppose it would be nice to have so much money or be so amzingly responsible that they would NEVER in a million years go into debt for a wedding.
Yea – guess that makes me jealous but also kind of pissed off.

Amazing recaps worthy of being a celebrity’s wedding or some royalty somewhere. Still waiting on my pics, dagnabbit.

High-budget wedding dresses!
Those 5K+ dresses always make me drool!

As much as I don’t like to admit it, I can feel a little jealous of bees (or people in real life) whose families are helping them pay for the wedding. My FI and I both come from families without money and, while we are both fortunate enough to have decent paying jobs, I feel a little pang of jealousy whenever I hear about so-and-so’s family giving them thousands of dollars for their wedding while we have to fund it all by ourselves and make decisions on what we can and can’t afford to splurge on.

People who have their lives together. Buying a house, getting a dog, etc. I don’t even know where I’ll be living in 6 months thanks to FI’s crazy work schedule!

I get jealous when other Bees mention how much they make or how much they have in savings. I work at a nonprofit and pretty much always will, so I make just enough to get by. FI is still in his PhD program, so he’s in the same position. I can’t wait for the day that we can build up a good savings, buy each other great presents, not have to ask our parents for help with airfare for a family vacation, etc.

The travel for me too! I’ve never been out of the country. No one I know travels at all. We plan to, but with two kids, college, wedding, etc it seems like it’ll never happen.

It would have to be the traveling for me, too. I’ve never been on a vacation, let alone out of the country! And my FI HATES traveling, so I doubt it will ever happen now. So I’m insanely jealous about that.
I’m also jealous of the people whos parents have plenty of money and pay for their expensive wedding things. Ha. I wish.

@Bridey77: big engagement rings and people who have pictures of their fiance proposing. And of course people who can spend 6 figures in their wedding. Bees whose SOs are naturally romantic.

Fairytale weddings in Paris or Italy (fantasies of mine.) Not that I’d have done things hugely differently if we had a ton of $ but I always fantasized about being married in an old Tuscan farm estate and having enough $ to fly friends and family there.
And couture dresses (although I never pay full price for anything so it would probably kill me to get a gown like that.

Bees who own houses. I really want to buy but we need to save more for a down payment.
Sometimes those with kids too. We won’t have kids for a few years.
Also, the ones who love to and can run. I have weak ankles even with exercise and strength training.
Whenever anyone eats cake.

OEC moissanites. I’m not even sure one would work with my setting, but I love them so…
