@Haley_Comet:  I ordered from Moco and live in Canada.  I unfortunately will be returning as well as I am not happy with the ring.  Duties at the door were the standard .13 tax.  Do NOT get palladium because no one in Canada works with the “pure stuff from the states” as I have been told by many jewellers.  My mom ordered hers from north star moissanite or foreveryours.ca..  Not much selection but shes happy with hers.

@blushbliss:  Oh no….what happened with your ring? I didn’t see you had received it after the post mentioning ordering one.

I’ve ordered (and returned) an item from MoissyCo with no issues. I actually got my refund the day after FedEx delivered the package to them. I’m still dealing with Customs to get a refund on the HST I paid on the package, but that has nothing to do with MoissyCo. I also paid HST when I ordered from BetterThanDiamond, as well as an online Tacori dealer. In the end, US retail prices + currency exchange + taxes = what you’d pay at a Canadian retailer. Unfortunately, Canadian retailers lack the selection of American shops.

@BlondeMissMolly:  You’ll still be paying taxes on items from Schubach’s.

@letigre:  yes of course. I should have explained better. From my understanding the biggest issue with Moco shipping to Canada is that they declare a different value than what it is worth, which can cause an issue with customs. I’m not Canadian so can’t speak from personal experience, but I’ve seen the same story multiple times on the bee, and it’s usually pretty upsetting to that person! When one bee complained (I believe akirisan?), Moco came on and said they hadn’t shipped to Canada before or some weird excuse (dozens of Canadians have ordered from them). I’ve never heard about anyone Canadian having a problem with schubachs, so that’s why I would use them.

@Haley_Comet:  We ship several packages daily to Canada.  The only problems we have ever had are a few day delays here and there, but it hasn’t happen in months.  When it does happen, Customs asks for additional information concering the import.  This is not unique to Canadian Customs and can happen when a package is shipped to any country.

Concerning Blonde’s post, we replaced a Moissanite one of our customer’s damaged for free.  When we sent it back, there was some confusion with Customs because it was a re-import (not the first time it was imported).  Customs requested some additional paperwork which we provided, and in the end it was only delayed a few days (it was delivered in less than a week from when it was shipped).

@HomeschoolingBeeof4:  didn’t I mention it on the Moissyco IRL thread and you commented?  I am not entirely sure if I am recollecting properly.  They prongs for the pave stones had some issures.  To be honest, I am considering exchanging it for your ring!  I have never liked solitaires but I am insanely in love with yours.  Although I worry it is the size of your centre stone that I love and I would only be getting a 1.25 ct lol

@BlondeMissMolly:  my item from MoissyCo was declared for its actual value and I paid full duties as a result, which sucked. I recall the post you’re talking about, but she had special circumstances (a repair). My jeweller actually experiences the same kerfuffle when shipping people’s Tacori rings back and forth from California, so they’ve started to only send the most severe repair cases to Tacori. When you send an item for repair to the US, on return, its import value changes (due to being fixed) so you can be slapped with customs charges again. Evidently Akisaran was unaware of this, but that case was obviously one where te company was trying to save her money at customs. My jeweller says that they just pay duty on repaired Tacori rings multiple times.

I’m not a big proponent of the settings MoissyCo carries since the workmanship on what I ordered was night and day from the expert workmanship of a designer setting, but their prices are good for those with a budget and the import issues reported here would apply to ANY American retailer. With respect to Schubach’s (and BTD as well), they’re even more clueless on sending packages to Canada. I’ve been emailing with Schubach’s regarding a custom setting and I’ve learned to do all my own research regarding customs. They must do even less business with Canadians.

@blushbliss:  It is entirely possible you did tell me. I have been so busy that my mind is on overload. I apologize if you had to repeat 🙂 I think 1.25 is a great size. I love my setting, but I have always liked solitaires. I hope you find something you love 🙂

@Haley_Comet:  No you will not be charged american tax.  At checkout you will not be charged ANY tax (unless they calculate duties at checkout, in which case you pay Canadian tax and possibly duties if the articles you are purchasing are not made in a NAFTA country).  Otherwise, you will be required to pay Canadian taxes (.13) at the door.

Well here’s the thread so everyone can draw their own conclusions. This definitely wasn’t the first time I’ve seen someone post about this issue, either. Here’s an excerpt:

After FedEx got the true story from me, they were a lot nicer. They also said that they know this company lies about the value of their packages and that it isn’t a smart thing to do because, like this, they will get caught sooner or later
