@star282:  I would use a neutral brown or charcoal sofa. You may be enamored with the idea of a purple sofa now, but will that last for the life of a sofa? You can always use pillows to bring in your  purple

I personally would never buy a colored couch, a nice couch is really expensive and once you pick that colr you’re stuck with it for the life of the couch. I dont really know what color though, becauseI am having a hard time imagining cherry wood and grey walls personally. I just would not do a color.

@julies1949:  I love the idea to get a charcoal sofa and then bring in color with the accessories!

@star282:  I think a charcoal or light gray sofa would look great. You can bring in color with throw pillows and/or area rugs. Choose a neutral sofa – its easier and cheaper to change accessories and even the wall color.

Another gray paint option (which I chose after painting 12 gray samples on my wall!) is Old Soul by BM. Its more of a brown-gray, so it allows more flexibility in choosing a cream, tan, taupe or gray sofa. But on that note, I would not choose a cream sofa – the furniture store told me so many get ruined by people’s dark jeans color transferring!

This pic shows how you can use purple pillows effectively- not recommending the purple on the table

With your color palette and cherry wood I’m liking cordovan for the couch, which is a rich color with a reddish tinge:

@star282:  Can you do like… Greige??? It would be warmer and go with the browns than gray that has black undertones and is very cold.

We have grey walls and a taupe-ish couch with dark furniture accents.  It helps balance the room and not be too dark.  Color pillows and decor are always fun because the options are limitless

@star282:

I am currently in the same boat as you – in the process of buying new furniture, painting, etc.

I found the website houzz.com – I recommend it! It’s way better than pinterest. You can search for “Gray walls brown couch” and get tons of results. It also has the ability to save the images you like, just like pinterest.
