Last I heard, usually in the hospital, once a baby has been born, cleaned up, etc. they put them in a diaper (to be changed as needed), a shirt (white one with built-in mittens) and a hat. I forget if it’s normally a white hat or a pink or blue on depending on the sex of the baby. However, at the one where I gave birth, my baby was given a red-and-green striped one (possibly because it was December and a couple of weeks before Christmas). My sister visited the day after and thought said hat made him look like a little elf. (Not that she meant it as a bad thing necessarily, she was just saying.)
So, out of curiosity, for those of you who took the standard hospital birth route, what hat did they give your baby?

I haven’t had a child of my own, but at the hospital I worked at previously all of the newborn hats were made by women from the local nursing homes. The hats were all different colors, and were super cute. The nurses actually spent some time picking which hat they thought fit the baby the best.

My Christmas Eve baby also got a little elf hat 🙂

My baby is due in 3 weeks so I can let you know after that! For SIL (who gave birth where I will be), her first baby they didn’t know what she was having so she got a green one immediately after baby was born.. and later on they brought her a pink and white one once they knew baby was a girl. For her second, she again didn’t know and I’m not sure if they had a different one right when baby was born but when I visited when baby was a couple of hours old, he had a blue hat.
Both were summer babies, a red and green hat near Christmas would be soooo cute!!

They put a pink and blue striped one on him at first, and then white ones

Despite being born at Christmas, my daughter got a pink knitted hat. An elf hat would have been pretty excellent, though.

My son got a blue crochet hat (no idea who made it) and also the standard-issue pink and blue striped knit hat.

The delivery hospital I work at uses hats made at nursing homes so they are all different and unique. They come with a poem about enjoying every moment even when your tired, sore, and emotional.
Makes me cry everytime. lol.

@Follydust321: That is so cute! It’s nice to hear sweet, personal things like that about a hospital.

My daughter didn’t have a hat until we went outside to go home.
She just had a diaper, onesie and tights that we brought from home.

My DS had a blue hat, but it was really crappy. It was like a blue sock with the foot part cut off and they just wrapped a string around the end to close it. Next time I’m bringing our own! But he was so gorgeous he could pull it off;)

We got to pick out of a large box (well I didn’t because I had a c-section). I think the first one was multicolored (looked sort of greenish though) but it was a little tight so we switched and my husband picked a white one. I am pretty sure they had all different colors.

I work at a hospital and the babies get pink and blue stripped hates. Not elf like, more like beanies.
