Hi Bees,
DH and I are in the process of buying our first home so I'm day dreaming about decorating.
Curently we have a white couch which has not survived very well. Our cat has definitely been rough on it and so has DH. I don't want to put it in the family room when we move, (it'll be getting moved to the office where it will be less used).
But now I'm stuck on what color couches to look at. The house is a blank slate as we'll be painting anywhere we move. I really prefer rooms with light colors and airy feels but I obviously am not going to make the same white couch mistake again.
So bees, what color is your couch and do you like it? Any suggestions for colors for me to consider that will still give me that airy look but handel daily use well?
Photos are always welcome!
Our sofa is Natuzzi microfibre- a light milk chocolate color. It cleans up like a breeze. They even have a guarantee that they will come and remove any stain you are unable to remove yourself.
I change up my accent colors winter and summer. We use burgundy in the winter and turquoise and green in the summer and they all look great with the sofa color.
Our current couch is an ugly huge blue sectional that is going to end up in the bonus room of our new house. So I'm in the market for a new sofa and love seat for the downstairs living room of our new place!
BTW - it's an Ashley piece. I have to find the site to link you to it. It's a reclining couch as well. I loves it. We wanted to buy more pieces, but it's just the two of us in the apartment so no need right now.
DH and his friends are all sitting on mine at the moment so I found the stock photo of it.... its actually a little dark in person than the photo shows. LOVE LOVE LOVE this couch :) Big Lots for $699
Ours is a charcoal microfiber sectional. We actually just got it last month because our old couch broke.

ETA: This is right after they dropped it off. We've since rearranged stuff at bit and added wall art.
We got our couch for free from my husband's grandma, and it was actually brand new because she moved into a furnished condo and didn't want it, but it is kind of hideous! Beige, green, and red plaid... yikes. Luckily it has a nice shape, and everything else in the room is fairly neutral, so it's okay until we upgrade.
Ours is a lightish-medium brown in a suede-like material (but it's not actually suede). It's from Big Lots because we needed an inexpensive couch before we moved into our apartment but it's held up perfectly so far.
We just bought a new couch on Black Friday! I'm so excited it's a gray and super comfy. http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/elliot-sectional-sofa-3-piece-chaise?ID=522835&selectedType=%0A%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%0A%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20
Our living room walls are a mushroomy taupe with a red accent wall, the couch is a chocolate brown microfiber and the loveseat is a taupe color. Not very light and airy, but super comfy.
@MrsRuby: that's the same color as our sofa! Good taste!
@mwitter80: love your new sofa! great color choice.
Our couches are dark brown leather, just because they hold up amazingly well to pet and person abuse, and they never look dirty. We have light coloured throws/pillows and accent furniture, so it makes the room look a lot lighter.
Ours is "sage" - it's a really neutral-y looking green. It's fairly new, and it goes well in our living room (light brown walls/laminate "wood" flooring).
this is our current couch. sorry not sure why the picture uploaded sideways and not sure how to change it. We got it on a super sale at Living Spaces about 2 years ago. It came with a huge chair and ottoman.
CONGRATS, by the way!! We just bought ours this past summer and we're loving it!
Also, I should have mentioned that because they're microfibre and still pretty new, I keep them covered with a throw (there's loveseat and a couch). I'm paranoid and am going to enjoy these "nice couch" years before we have kids, lol.
dark brown, from ikea.....was going to copy paste a pic from IKEA, but it looks like our sofa is so outdated that it is no longer sold there! We are in the market for a new couch whenever we run into some money, but our ikea couch has been serving our needs for almost 8 years!
Unfortunately, my couch came with my husband, but it's neutral and very comfortable. It's a light tan microsuede w/ 2 reclining ends. I don't have any pics of it, but it's pretty basic. We also have a dark brown love seat that we bought when we moved in. Excuse the off centered-ness. We moved it over so friends could better see the TV...
My couch is old. It came with our apartment. (Previous owners left it.) So we cleaned it up & kept it. We have a new one on layaway. But we recently found the same couch for MUCH cheaper at Big Lots. So we plan to get that one with our tax money.
Here is our current couch:

& What our new set will look like:

@Eight6Eleven: OMG! I have the same couches as pictured! I actually have a chair and ottoman in the accent pillow fabric! I actually really love my sofa and loveseat, they're nice and deep and firm. :)
Here is a couple of our sofas. I prefer softer colour material.
Here is a pic of our Living Room. It is a very small space so we could only fit a love seat.
Here is a pic of our great room sofa. It is a cellphone pic and the colours are off big time but you'll get the idea. We have two sofas facing eachother and LOVE them as they are long!!
Ours is a dark brown leather. It is such a weird brown though, it almost looks like it has a dark purple tent to it. We love it though, it goes great with everything.
Ours is brown with flecks of darker brown in it. Here's my baby checking out the couch when it was brand new: (this pic is from facebook so it's not super high quality - sorry!)

Ours are a dark brown leather. They were hand-me-downs from my parents but in really good shape. They have held up well considering my mom had 2 cats and we have 2 dogs...and my parents bought them in like 2003. FI and I have had them since 2009.
Red! I wanted something more neutral at first, but I took a chance on red and now I love it! It adds some interest to the room. Sorry, this is the best picture I have of it.
@PitBulLover: Thanks! Yours are super cute all snuggly on the couch! Your dog is especially cute because he or she is all curled up like a cat!
@MissPumpkinPie: Mine is very similar to yours and it's also from Ashley!
We opted not to have recliners because we have a toddler and didn't want her to pinch her fingers. This is our sofa and loveseat. Then we have these tables and this tv stand. We bought it all together (excluding tv stand) on sale for $1000 and the original price would have been about $2500. We love the "faux leather" because it is so easy to clean. If we did it over again I would probably pick a different table set because the grooves are very difficult to clean. I have to take a q-tip to it once a week.
Mine is a black loveseat and the pillows that form the back of the couch have all these textured, funky swirls and zig zags in beige, brown, and black.
My decor isn't exactly sophisticated though. I have a very African/Voodoo/South Asian themed living room with wood mask carvings, an African drum, mud pottery, a gourd maraca, and a few skulls decorating my living room, so the couch fits in perfectly.
Maybe one day we'll get a mismatched-but-complimentary full length couch to go with it but right now we don't need it.
Edited to add:
Here it is. Kind of dishevelled right now but super comfy

I have this couch from Ikea in biege. I bought the side pillows in milk chocolate brown and cream seperately. I got a nice cover-up so it seems more personalized and protects the couch from the cat. The rest of the room follows the same color theme for the most part; there is a mirror on the wall with a dark grey frame, the furniture is black, and there is a shelf about the couch in grey which has some plants on top. There are a bunch of plants throughout, so I like the green accents in a room that is pretty low key. I'll update with a better pictures later, but this is what I have on hand just to show you what I added to the couch:

@dcdt212: I love Ashley furniture. =) that's a really nice set! I checked it out when I went shopping.
Ours is a bordeaux color. We have a lot of natural wood in our place, and lots of whites and "decorator whites", so it's a nice color complement without being too overwhelming for my neutrals-loving taste! They're also oversized and so, so comfy. From Jordan's Furniture several years ago--they have survived quite well!
This is our couch (we actually bought that one) but in the store!
Ours is charcoal gray. We have a 3-seater and a 2-seater Karlstad couch from IKEA in "sivik dark gray". I love the color.
