we’re going to be having a semi-formal-formal wedding, and the colors will be a saturated lavender/purple (like the ‘majestic’ shade here http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=2&sfid=51163′ defer=’defer ) and ink/navy. the bridesmaids and (female) ringbearers will be wearing the ink, jr bridesmaid and flower girls in the saturated lavender. i am usually all for mixing black with navy, but i don’t know that it will look right in this situation, i think the lavender might be too deep to look like an appropriately complementary color to the black and navy. would a black tux on my groom look icky? what about the groomsmen? should they be in navy or black?
just wondering if anyone is going with a non-black color for their groom.

Black goes with anything and everything since it is a neutral color. It looks fine with any shade of purple.

The groom will be wearing a grey CK tux with white shirt and vest.

i disagree with black being neutral. no color, imo, is truly neutral. any color can look bad when combined with the wrong colors. i’m wondering if the black won’t look right with a wedding full of navy, deep lavender, and medium blue. i worry it may and wonder if my groom may be better off in a navy suit. but then i wonder if it might look less formal than we desire.

That Majestic shade is beautiful! Darn these gorgeous purples—I keep wishing it was one of my wedding colors, too.
From your description, I’d put the groom and groomsmen in navy. You can probably find navy suits in different fabrics and cuts, which determine how formal it looks. Mr. Parfait’s most formal suit is navy blue (and toootally amazing)! Good luck~~

My men are wearing suits, not tuxes. But they are black

Our guys are all wearing black. The dads have black vests, ties, and jackets. The groomsmen have black jackets, ivory vests and lavander ties. The best man has a black jack, ivory vest, and navy tie. And the groom has a black jacket, champagne tie, and champagne vest.

Not sure yet but I wish I knew, because I really want to order a custom cake topper from nakedpeggies on etsy.com!

My Darling Husband and the groomsmen all wore navy suits…looked great! The bridesmaids were also in a midnight blue (some with ivory sashes or a halter) so I felt that with the guys wearing black suits they would have looked like a bruise. The navy looked perfect. Love your colors!

We went with the Men’s Wearhouse brown tuxes- they looked really good!
