Hey ladies! I've still got about 4 months until my birthday, but as my dad calls it...it's "birthday season" for me!! :) I always think about my birthday ahead of time & what I want to do. Last year me & my friends went out to din & I got a condo on the beach. Now I'm trying to think of some good ideas for my 21st! :)
Any ideas?
well i know that your 21 and our 19 in canada are sorta the same with what you're legally allowed to do and stuff, and since i'm not 21 yet, i can let you know what i did on my 19th?
it was horrible. N and my best friend decided to throw a surprise party for me, since i have a big house in the country complete with pool, badminton, volleyball, fooseball, and a swimming pool.
i don't know who did it, but whoever was in charge of actually inviting people told everyone the wrong date. and didn't realize until the night before.
so my surprise birthday party for the big 19 was my family, and them. so basically, any other day of the week.
hope yours is more exciting than mine was!
i spent my 21st going to Toronto (ironic, cuz you only have to be 19 in CA to drink)... but anyway, i was a 'bad kid' and had my partying started way before my 21st, so a few of my gf's, an ex and his boys all road tripped to Toronto... stayed at a lakehouse on the way one night and partied in the city all weekend.
i suggest you plan a mini road trip to someplace fun with in a few hours driving time and do an expansion of your condo rental last year! ;)
roadtrippin with your honey and some friends would be a blast!! (assuming that you've already had "drinks!" and getting to "drink" really isn't that big of a deal. ;P)
you're down in florida, right? take a weekend with your friends in new orleans! I actually had my 19th birthday (oops!) and my bachelorette down there and they both were among the most fun weekends ever, and really not too expensive - if you want a great and affordable hotel, check out Quality Inn and Suites Downtown.
My FI (boyfriend at the time) and my brother got a limo for me and my friends and we went out bar hopping in Boston.
On my 21st, I bought a bottle of wine, went out to a very fancy dinner with my then boyfriend (now an ex), and then went home to drink the wine. Not horribly exciting, but I was living in Canada when I turned 19, so I'd had my "21st" a few years before.
My 21st was pretty low key. I was in college so my FI (then boyfriend) and I were seriously playing old school Nintendo in his dorm room. My dorm room was directly above his and I could hear something going on up there. When I went up, there happened to be a surprise party for me. It was sweet, but it lasted about an hour hahaha. I went right back to Nintendo. Honestly, we were all SO broke, drinking just wasn't in the cards!
Well, the plan was to go to a bar and get drunk but I had food poisoning instead. So it was pretty rock-tastic.
Well, I don't drink, so that pretty much ruled out a night of craziness. But you'll love this one...my birthday always falls in Christmas break while all my friends are out of town, so my grandpa, feeling sorry for me took me to the casino on my 21st and gave me $20 to gamble away. LOL It was actually pretty fun and I still laugh at how I spent my 21st.
I was in rehearsal all night on my actual 21st bday but had HUGE plans for the following day beginning with brunch and going until the wee hours...however, that ended up being 9/11 so instead we spent the entire day (and week) glued to the TV. I've still never celebrated my 21st birthday.
Got rediculously trashed, got into a cab where i threw up, came home, and slept about 20 hours :)
haha I was in my first semester of law school and had class the next morning. And you do NOT miss class unless you're dying the first semester. So I went to school on my bday, went out to dinner with some friends (i'm assuming... I don't really remember to be honest, and not bc I was drunk), went to a bar and had some drinks, and was home by 1.
For my 21st I had lunch with all my friends at my favorite mexican resturant, because I didn't drink at the time.
Then a week later, my FI (who is 4 years older than me), felt bad that I had missed the whole "getting crazy drunk" on my birthday thing. So, since his parents have a full bar in their basement, and were out of town for the weekend, he took me over there and got me pretty wasted.
It was awesome. He used to be a bartender in college, so he poured me silly girly drinks (I could only handle about 3.5) and I got to have a completly unrestrained good time in the safety of his parents house. After this experience he also completly understands why I hardly ever drink (I turn into kind of a whore. It's like someone gave me ecstasy!)
Their basement makes me so jealous, btw. They have a 72" flat screen TV, a full hardwood bar, a pool table and a putting green. It's awesome.
My 21st was actually last month, and it's the exact same day as FI's.. He was in basic when we both turned 21 though, so I really didn't want to do anything.. My parents took me out to dinner at Olive Garden and I had a few drinks and that was it.. But once he came home on leave at the end of the month, we made up for it and celebrated by going out and drinking with friends one night and heading out to a casino for another.. It was a good time :)
I went out at midnight the day before (or I guess the morning of) my birthday, which was not so good. Then my mom came down to school in the afternoon, got me a wine flight, which I couldn't finish. My fiance took me out later and he proceeded to throw up on the way to the bar because of a bad thai food. I got sick after one drink because of a prescription med I was taking. So not awesome :)
My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I rented a huge house in Crescent Beach, and invited about 15 friends to stay with us for 4 days. It was crazy and literally the best birthday ever. There were people I didn't know sleeping on the deck and hammocks outside that we had just picked up in downtown St. Augustine. I found people passed out on the beach every morning. It was hilarious.
And every birthday since then has been pretty boring in comparison. Getting old is lame.
Honestly I had a little too much to drink but had a great time dressing up with friends and going to a friendly bar/lounge .. dancing and then got carried in to my house by my husband who was my boyfriend at the time.
I had a good time =].
I definitely had the flu and was the only sober person at my party. Lame.
I turn 21 in September and will be spending the weekend in Vegas. It's a graduation present from the future in-laws. Should be pretty fun!
I rented a limo from 5pm-3am and went bar hoping with friends. My parents stocked the limo with so much alcohol we didn't have to spend money at the bar LOL. We'd drink in limo and go to clubs and dance. If I did drink at the bar someone bought it for me. It was so much fun!
i was studying abroad in England which was kinda pointless since you can drink at 18. It was only the 4th day of the program so I didn't know the other students that well, but they bought masks at the hotel giftshop and got chocolate mousse with a candle in it from the bar. It turned out to be awesome. I think I had my first Irish Car Bomb that night...
My bf took me out to a really fancy dinner. We ate great food while overlooking the NY skyline. First we had drinks at the bar and it was great not feeling weird when ordering because I was finally legal lol My first legal drink was a Cosmo my fav. and then we were seated with a great view of the skyline. Had a very expensive bottle of wine with our dinnerr, and t was amazing! I had the best time. I was definitely tipsy afterwards, but not drunk! I'm glad I went out and enjoyed my 21st and can still remember it. It definitely isnt necessary to go out and get wasted to high heaven
Nothing special really. I didn't know a lot of people where I was living.
I'm pretty lame - I didn't do anything! I didn't even get a drink, lol. My fiance made me dinner (our birthday tradition) and we just hung out all night. It was nice :)
I didn't actually go out at all until a few weeks later.
Well I was smack dab in my huge party phase in college, and I was a senior. So needless to say, even though my birthday was on a weds (tues night at mid) we went to a popular karaoke bar and partied like i was 21! :)
I couldn't rememember, so I had to email my friend this morning to refresh my memory. This is what went down according to him:
At midnight, I went out to a modern rock/industrial club with a big group of friends, and then the next night, my actual birthday night, I went to Atlantic City and hit up the casinos with all of my guy friends. I didn't get carded ONCE the whole night, which was a bummer.
This part I remember: I got home at 6am and had to be at the airport at 7:30 to visit my best friend at the time - she lived in North Carolina. It was ROUGH.
Well, I went to dinner with a few of my girlfriends, parents, and baby! Then my parents took my baby home and I got a few drinks with my friends and was home and in bed by 11:30! The life of a mom! :)
@ejs - that's terrible! the bathroom's no place to celebrate, booo.
@lees - my friends took me to a mexican (not as traditional mexican, more of a festive local chain) restaurant on the night before, filled my belly with a square meal, and at the stroke of midnight lined up a giant margarita (big = 5 shots, hm)and a bunch of silly shots (nearby tables heard of the landmark birthday! haha). I did my dues, we settled the bill, and we ran out into the streets to hit another bar or two. I definitely felt all the shots hit at once, hahah. It was great - my body couldn't take it now that i'm turning 27 this May, but back then it was SO FUN!! It was good to have some downtime with friends before the craziness happened at about 12:01. What are you brainstorming so far? You could go out on ... Crab Island? Is that the place near Destin with all the boating and partying?
Live it up girl!!! My 21st was absolutely ridiculous. It helped that my actual birthday was on a Saturday so I was able to party/live it up. I'm a big fan of birthday weeks!!
That Friday night we went out to my firend's aunt's bar - just her and I. We arrived early but they let me in as long as I promised not to drink until midnight! So we hung out, listened to the live music, and flirted with the cute Canadian Hockey Players from the neighboring college. We left the bar quite tipsy with those Hockey Players so that this friend (we'll call her Candy) could continue the flirting ... it ended up in a long walk to an apartment complex called Camelot ... and me sleeping in the livingroom of this guy's apartment while DMB played in a loop on the radio ... not enjoyable to be honest ... but the rest of the evening had been a blast! The next morning we walked to the diner, grabbed some food, and had her uncle pick us up! We then made the hour drive home - I had more celebrating to do! On the way home - we stopped in Rite Aid to grab some water ... and I vomitted all over aisle 10. It was, um, priceless.
When we got home we rand the circuit of the three bars in our home town (one my aunt owns and the other two are just kind of boring divwa) and had a drink at each. Then went to my parents' house for cake and pizza. After cake and pizza my ex bf who I am still very good friends with picked me up and took me to get my license picture (I'm sure you can guess how that picture looks ... soooo classy) then we ventured to Lancaster, PA where most of my college friends reside. We started in a local little place called Subs and Six Packs where I was dared to drink a Dogfish Head 120 minute at the same pace a friend drank a Yuengling. Not a smart idea. Not at all. I did it ... and ended up red and blotchy and well, not sober afterward! I then went and got a tattoo on my neck and met with friends later to do a bar crawl downtown ... one of them gives a fishbowl for free with a drink of your choice in it! It was great ...
Sunday it didn't stop. I drank all afternoon ... then went to Karaoke to a bar I had gotten kciked out of as a 20 year old and where most of my good friends hang out ... and since I was the last to turn 21 it was great to spend the time with them!
Sorry that was so long - but here's my advice to have a great 21st:
Don't get too caught up in missing something - you have many years ahead of you to enjoy the "bar scene."
Get a designated driver ... someone you seriously trust to look after you ... it's okay if you drink more than usual - let loose - eventually it's not socially acceptable to do that anymore!
Surround yourself with the people you want to celebrate with you the most!
My girls and I all turned 21 around the same time so we all rented a condo on a beach about 2 blocks away from a really busy block of bars. We went wine tasting on friday in a limo (SO fun), bar hopping friday night, to the beach on saturday and spent saturday night out at the bars again. It was SO much fun!
I was living in Paris. A 21st bday is not that big of a deal over there but a group of friends and I went to dinner then went to a club... Nothing too exciting.
I went out with my siblings ( I'm a triplet!), and my family (older siblings and their spouses). My brother knows a guy who got us into a swanky hotel roof-top bar, so we got ridiculously dolled up and drank super expensive drinks for like two hours. Then we went to a local bar and played pool and bumper pool for a few hours! It wasn't very crazy, but I had a blast celebrating with my fam. :)
I was a new mommy so I don't even remember what we did to celebrate! I had a 9 month old. All I remember was diapers and baby bottles!
At 17 I was a senior in high school, living in Germany (16 legal age to drink, 18 on base) and I always bugged them bout what was the big deal of not letting me drink when all my friends were 18 and drank. So they got me drunk, to the point where vomit was coming out of my nose. Needless to say, I didn't drink after that! I haven't been drunk since then and i'll be 32 this year. i have the occasional glass of wine, but nothing more.
I was in college so my roomies threw me a huge party (think college kegger lol)! I got pretty drunk... the cops came to shut down the party, and there was even a police helicopter shining their bright lights down on our balcony. I flipped them off and cussed them out, LOL! Ooooops
Best time ever though... will never forget it! :)
I had a couple of "21st" birthdays. For my 18th birthday, my friends and I went on a roadtrip to Winnipeg, Manitoba because you can drink in Manitoba when you're 18 and it wasn't too far of a drive. That was tons of fun. Then for my 21st birthday, it was on a Wednesday, so the night before I had my couple hours of drinking after midnight, then I had a family dinner the night of my birthday then I went out every night from Wednesday until Saturday with friends. We didn't go on a trip or anything even though my birthday is during the summer because I was taking a summer class. I wish we would have gone somewher but it was still so much fun.
dinner with friends, and drinks which turned into me plastered....perhaps inevitably. lol if i could do over, i would do it more classy...i live in a college town with college bars, i would have taken a limo or something to a city with clubs n hour away....but we were all poor college students then ;)
Awww! Your 21st birthday is so much fun! Are you a drinker?
On my actual birthday, my college duplex-mates and I went out for Mexican food & margaritas, then when to a local bar to dance & drink.
I then went home on the weekend to spend time with my family. We have a tradition where if you're a girl, the aunts take you out & if you're a boy, the uncles take you out. We did a nice dinner with everyone - parents, aunts, uncles & best friend (who was 20). Then, me & the aunts met my 21 & older friends downtown to a piano bar (Howl at the Moon) to dance & drink. We then hung out downtown until closing time.
So, a relatively low key but still fun 21st birthday. I got most of the partying out of my system when I was 17 - 20, so I was OK with chilling out while having fun!
Started off the day with lunch of wings and this amazing drink called a limy bastard (8 shots of rum, taste like fruit punch, so delicious!) then dinner at my mother in laws, then we had a limo and went downtown bar hopping and had vip access everywhere due to the limo company, ultimately was drunk as all hell, hungover for 3 days, still drunk when i woke up the day after we went out, and yea, it was amazing. best 21st ever. everyone that went with said it made up for their shitty 21st bdays.
My 21st was to be spent at a hotel with my friends and included a night of dinner, dancing, clubs and probably lots of alcohol! Instead I spent my 21st in the hospital with severe kidney stones. My friends did bring me a beer shaped balloon though :)
