DH & I are taking a late honeymoon, because we moved right after our wedding. We've talked about taking a cruise, but I'm trying to keep my options open, too.
So where did you go for your honeymoon? Was it expensive? I'm trying to make sure we get the most for our money cause these things seem expensive! :-P
We're going to Sandals Whitehouse Jamaica (an all-inclusive) for 8 days. It's 5K, not including airfare.
@roweboat: We've never been on a cruise, but I have heard a lot of people say you get a lot of bang for your buck!
We're going to the FL keys for 5 days.
Flights were just under $1k, car rental $350, just under $900 for hotels not sure how much we'll spend on food and activities yet but hoping to keep it under $4k total.
What helped me decide where we were going was picking 3 possible locations and looking at airfare prices (Um, whoa California vineyards were OUT). Look at where the off season will be during your HM and advice from Bees always helps :)
@mchitt329: I've heard the same, but we've never been on one. It seems like the least expensive option for us right now. :)
We went to Europe and visited a couple of countries for a month. It was pricey, but something we'd wanted to do. We spent $7500 which was actually a good deal...
We went late as well... I was married in August and I"m not heading out for the Honeymoon until December. We are going to Sandals in the Bahamas.
We went to an adults only all inclusive in Punta Cana. The total cost (with tax, RT private transfers from the DR airport, and the beach massage we added on) was $2100.
@BuffaloDots: That sounds awesome :)
@epalmisano829: I've been looking at sandals, too.. but it may be a bit over what we would like to spend, I think.
So far, it's between the cruise & going to Gatlinburg, TN!
@sarahbabs: That's not bad at all!! Where did you find that deal?
We went to the Poconos!! We had the best suite they had and it was amazing!!! We spent under $2000 total including travel, food, booze, and souvineers. I watched for their email deals and was able to snag a room for $275 a night! We had our own personal pool and 7 foot champagne glass shaped jacuzzi!!!
We went to Ireland to 11 days (10 nights) :) Airfare from LAX was $1600, hotels were about $1200, car rental was around $600 (we got lots of insurances, and an automatic car. If you can drive manual, it's about half that price), and we had about $600 extra spending money for food and gifts. These are all close estimates, so total was roughly $4,000 :) This is factoring in exchange rate, as well.
Oh - and, we used Expedia to book our flights, and Booking.com for the hotels :)
@roweboat: Found the hotel (Catalonia Royal Bavaro) on TripAdvisor, then booked through CheapCarribean.com. Great deals there!
@WhiteWedding: My sister always said she wanted to go there!
@StephieBee: I've always wanted to go to Ireland!
@sarahbabs: Thanks, I'm going to have to check that out :)
DH and I went on a cruise to Bermuda. It cost us about $1800 for our booking. We spent about $300 (worth noting that I had $250 on-board credit, but it's incredibly easy to spend that much) on the cruise. $300 cash on the island. So, in total, $2400. It was well worth it. Our meals were inclusive (unless we wanted otherwise on the ship and island). Drinks are a bit pricey, but heck, one or two a day won't hurt! If you have any questions, please PM me any time to ask! =)
ETA: We booked our cruise 8 months in advance on directlinecruises.com.
We went to the Maldives for a week and it was absolute paradise! All inclusive it cost us £4.5k. I would definatley reccomend it, worth every penny
We did a week in Punta Cana for about $3k. This included everything. I can't imagine how much all those drinks would have cost us on a cruise ship. We had a great time & will go back.
@mrsromo: LOL yep, we definitely drank WAY more than we could have afforded on a cruise!
WE just booked Couples Negril in Jamaica for 2 weeks at end of April. It cost just under $6000 for the both of us.
We did a cruise on the W. Caribbean (Belize, Honduras, Costa Maya, Cozumel) with excursions at each stop including airfare for $2500. We only went a week after our wedding.
@sarahbabs: We're looking at going to Punta Cana as well... trying to save as much as possible too :) Sweet deal!
We're going to Mexico all inclusive staying in an amazing suite with a private pool and the whole thing including airfare is just around $4k. Can't wait!
Since I just did all the research, if you're looking at all inclusive the best bang for your buck is definitely Punta Cana, Mexico, and Jamaica.
Our intitial mini-moon was 4 days renting a house outside Rocky Mountain National Park. With rental car, flights, food, park entrance fee, it was about $2000.
Our "real" honeymoon was backpacking around Asia and New Zealand for 8 months. We spent about $21,000. We used air miles to get to Asia, and home from New Zealand though. That allowed us to make a few splurges along the way (bungalow in the jungles of Borneo, stilted bungalow over the ocean there, a few expensive adventures in New Zealand, etc)
Went to Key West for 5 nights and Walt Disney World for 4 nights. Grand total was about $5,500.
@WhiteWedding: I'm. In. Love. with that jacuzzi. Thanks for the pic!
@tronski: Beautiful photo!
FI and I are going the Big Island at Hawaii for a week immediately after the wedding. Instead of staying at a hotel, we booked a condo and are thrilled to be able to make our own meals. Based on what he's been saying, I have a feeling most of the "meals" will be on ice and have tiny umbrellas as garnish.
Lodging is $1280 (Sunday - Saturday)
Airfare from Expedia is $1300 for both, and I *think* that also includes our rental car but can't remember at this moment. We still have to find a good sitter for the dog and have about $1000 budgeted to spend while we're there.
@crayfish: *Bows down* We're not worthy!
A week and a half island hopping around French Polynesia, hit up Tahiti/Moorea/BoraBora, 10K+ including everything.
@sarahbabs: WOW, that's an amazing deal. Which resort did you stay at?
EDIT: I just scrolled up and found your post :)
@missporkchops: that's one option we are considering too. Are you afraid of getting bored? I know, sounds ridiculous but I'm just concerned with the lack of activities outside of snorkeling, eating and sunbathing....
@mstellah: We went last year... it was an epic trip. DH and I are pretty adventurous and don't mind wandering off of the beaten path. In Moorea, we rented a car and explored the entire island on our own, ate at a bunch of local joints, swam with dolphins, snorkeled all the time. In Bora Bora, it was a bit more laidback, lots of snorkeling and excursions. The food was amazing and we definitely needed the relaxing down time. I think I only laid out once during the entire trip. Definitely wasn't boring!
Spring for the overwater bungalows. I would just climb down our ladders at both islands and immediately snorkel around our bungalow when we had down time. The fish there are gorgeous and super friendly.
We're taking a honeymoon cruise! It's a 9 day from San Juan to Baltimore, with stops at 6 islands in between. Total upfront cost (airfare to San Juan, 2 nights hotel in San Juan, and the cruise plus pre-paid gratuities) is $2,500 for the two of us. We'll probably spend another $500 on shore excursions, drinks (we're not heavy drinkers), souvenirs, etc. So excited!
We went to Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios, Jamaica for 8 nights. We paid $5800 for a bulter suite (including airfare). We had a fabulous time. The resort has a lot of mixed reviews online, so I was a bit worried, but we have already booked our second trip there, we were so impressed!

We got married in the BVI and honeymooned there as well. Used miles for airfare. Rented a house for 10 days for $2000. Car rental was 500. Food and fun $2000. So I guess we spent $4500.
We flew in to St. Thomas, stayed one very indulgent night at the large Marriott there, then moved to a fancy boutique hotel on Tortola, an eco-camp on St. John and finally a bed and breakfast in Cruz Bay. 10 nights, altogether I would guess we came in around $4500-5000 including airfare, lodging, activities & food/beverage (we visted in late June which is the off-season)
Road trip up the Oregon coast!
A little offbeat, but totally our style. Great seafood dinners, beautiful uncrowded sandy beaches, lots of hiking/ mountain scenery as well, I can't stop raving about it. We're going back next year:)
The best part was the cost- we ate the best, freshest seafood I've ever had, saw sealions, elk, lighthouses, etc. for ten days and the total cost was $1400. We cheaped it on lodgings; neither of us really cared as long as everything was clean.
@tronski: We are looking into Maldives. Where did you stay? Did you do any excursions? I am very nervous because I don't know anyone who has actually ever been there. Thinking about combining with Dubai. Would love some info!
We're going to Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay, Jamaica for our Wedding-moon. We upgraded our room to the preferred section to get the free wedding package so our total is approximately 5.5k with airfare for nine days.
We are going to Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia for 3 weeks. Total cost: $10 000 not including anything except accommodation and flights.
we'll be doing 2 weeks in italy. so far 8k for airfare, hotels and some breakfasts
