Planning a wedding on a budget has been difficult but not impossible. While I would love to splurge in some categories I have been good at picking things to stay within our budget. While I have been able to get most things I wanted, we have given up on the idea of a limo, a photo booth and a videographer as we just cant fit it into our budget. What is something you have had to give up or compromise on that you still want to have or wish you had??

I only had to give up the photobooth in the end. We didn’t do a limo because the hotel, ceremony and reception were all at the same location (we had the welcome dinner and thank you brunch at the same location as well), so I didn’t see much of a point. We ended up getting a videographer for just the ceremony because it was all we could afford, however he ended up having so much fun that he stayed and filmed the whole thing for no extra charge.

- Wedding: July 2014 - Prague
No decorations (venue doesn’t really need them)
No limo (not needed)
Cheap dress (sort of)
No professional hair or makeup
The only thing I’m bummed about is the honeymoon, of course. And I’m worried about my hair, but it’s not like I know a reputable hair person or have a relationship with a stylist here anyway.

No photobooth and I ended up going with some cheaper decorations than what I had originally wanted. The photobooth was the only thing I’m bummed about though.

I’ve made some decor concessions, and I didn’t get my dream designer dress. I would have preferred to do a full open bar, but instead we’re just doing beer and wine, Also I would have LOVED to have a wedding planner. I think I’m going to be able to manage a DOC at least. Nothing is major and it’s mostly stuff (minus the open bar) that is only important to me.

housebee: Thats great that it all worked out to be in the same location so you didnt even miss the limo, and the fact that your videographer stayed for no extra charge is incredible!!
prahajess: I hear ya, forgot to mention that too… we’re not having a honeymoon either so I understand and there are probably lots of fun easy hairstyles you could find on the internet to do. You can use the time up to your wedding to practice with fun new hairstyles 🙂 Im sure you will look great!

Mostly small things so far. Never planned on a videographer. Gave up on floral centrepieces pretty early in. FI wanted a photobooth but we decided it wasn’t worth the money. That’s about all I can think of so far.

fallparkbride: I’ve practiced once, so far. :/ But I plan to practice more in the next 14 weeks!

cml: Ya, I am kind of bummed about not having a photobooth either, but I have been to lots of weddings without them and they were just as fun!
kimmo416: We are lucky enough to have our bar as a gift from a family member, if not we would be restricted too. I agree, if I start to get bummed about something I think about how it is just “stuff” and how important the meaning of the day is and we’ll have fun no matter what!

fallparkbride: I gave up using a florist. I’m buying my flowers whole sale and putting together all the centerpieces myself. I ordered my glass vases from the Dollar Tree website. They came in and I was shocked at how perfect they were. Can’t beat 15 vases for 15.00! 🙂 That’s even cheaper than renting!

fallparkbride: We decided against having a videographer, we are not having limos, just a bus for the guests, and I am doing my own hair and makeup. We did the least possible with flowers, just bouquets and centerpieces, no extra decor. I’m wearing white shoes, but not “wedding”<br /> shoes – I will be able to wear them all summer.
We’re putting the money into really nice welcome bags, and going seriously all out on food for our guests.

I don’t feel like we had to “give up” anything. We started our budget and that decided what we could afford.
We aren’t having a photobooth or videographer or musicians and all of our other choices were made within the confines of our budget (Small floral budget, etc)… But I didn’t “give any of it up” because it was never a necessity or requirement for my dream wedding. Only me, FI and an officiant are required 😉

LarLa: We havent decided on centerpieces.. I was thinking about doing something other than flowers too, what did you decide on?
KittyCatToe: Thats awesome! If I had a creative bone in my body, I might try that too, lol 🙂

We’re having real touch flowers, because I can’t justify the cost of fresh calla lillies. I also gave up my centerpiece idea, hand-blown glass vases made by us. With the venue offering a few choices of included, free to us ceterpieces, it just didn’t make sense to make 15 $40 vases. And what would we do with 15 mini vases anyway?

Giving up might be a bit off. We’ve delegated which tasks were most important. For us the rings and my dress were key in addition to a venue that suits us. With that said were going low key
no hair and makeup
and in order go make more room in the budget I changed to a slightly less expensive dress which saved 600$ but the crazy amount of alterations.
