That's actually how my director found out. I never take time off work because its just not real easy to do at my center (I work in daycare and we're a satellite center that only staffs 4 people) So when I asked for time off for an appointment she flat out asked me. It was a little akward but made it easier than trying to hide it. As to telling the company owner I just told her when she was trying to adjust our schedules that she probably wanted to factor in a time each month where I could make my appointments since I was pregnant. I think its one of those things that sounds harder in your head than it really is.
OMG...I just told my boss last week(at 26 wks!) after I just became a fulltime employee...we've had a good working relationship for about 8 years, but he still said "shit!" then followed up with, "no really, i'm happy for you" I was mortified, but what can you do? I gave him my plan, and he's cool with it, so it's whatever. Some bosses are really cool with it, others, not so much. I surely thought people knew I was pregnant, but my big shirts must've been really hiding a lot, because now that i'm wearing more form fitting shirts to the office, people are like OMG! you're pregnant! Who knew you could hide a pregnancy if you wanted to until the 3rd trimester? lol...
I told my boss at 14 weeks. I was in the process of a promotion and didnt want to tell her in case it jeopardized anything. I was petrofied because we had just lost someone because they went on maternity leave on my second day! But when I told her she was excited and I was relieved.
Oh and to legit answer your question lol, I just walked into her office and said "well, I found out I'm pregnant." and I let it roll from there lol
Thanks everyone! I was really pretty nervous, but it went great. They actually were nervous I was telling them I was quitting, since I had to make time to talk to my boss and her boss together. They are all really supportive and I know it'll be great! I don't know why I was worried, but I guess it was just cold feet or something.
I told my boss yesterday even though it's super early. But I work in a bio lab with lots of nasty stuff that can potentially infect, I guess there's the potential for danger for everyone but usually there are additional safeguards for pregnant people, and I had no idea what their protocols were but one of my bosses is pregnant now so I figured well they must know the safeguards (and how angry can she get at me if she's pregnant too). Better safe than sorry I guess and it was reassuring to know they now had it in their plans what I should and should not work with.
I thought it was illegal for a supervisor/boss to ask if an employee was pregnant or planning on having children.
I emailed the news in response to a related email request that would take place while I planned to be out on maternity. I cc'd the other admin. :) Then he sent the VP's to talk to me about specifics.
@jindc: Yeah, I thought that employers/bosses couldn't enquire about pregnancy status...
@jindc: It is illegal to ask if someone is pregnant or planning to have children.
I wanted to tell my work once we were at 12+ weeks and had our first ultrasound. I would need to ask to flex time for appointments. I work at a large agency, but we are located off the main site and there aren't a ton of people in my program. I wanted to tell before they started getting suspicious or I started showing. I work with mostly women, and they have families. I knew that ultimately I would have support from work. Plus I have a tendancy to say stuff accidentally.

I think I'm just getting cold feet about telling my boss I'm pregnant. I know she'll he happy for me, as will the rest of the people that I work with. I am 12 weeks today and had a sono last Friday. The issue is that I've already had three dr appointments and I have another one next Friday. I need to ask to flex the time, which isn't a big deal. I'm just concerned that she'll guess that I'm pregnant because I keep taking mornings off for dr apts. So my thought was that I'd tell my boss and my boss' boss tomorrow or Wednesday before I ask to flex the time next week.
What did you say when you told your boss? Did you just come out and say you were pregnant?
