Hello! I am just wanting to know what your cake budget was and what details determined how much you paid.
Where are you in the world?
How many guests did you have?
Did you offer other sweets with the cake?
Or anything else you think would be prudent.

We had a naked cake made by my best friend’s mom for free. It was great 🙂

We had cake for 150ppl as well as a dozen gluten free cupcakes to accomodate guests with gluten allergies. Our design was super simple and buttercream only, it cost somewhere around $500.

Our cake was $900 and it served 60 people with another 70 servings of sheetcake kept in the kitchen (we had 120 guests). I chose a cake person who was on TLC as I had a specific design in mind. It was awesome! She sketched it out for us in our consultation and colored it even – it was so wonderful I asked her for a copy of the sketch so I could frame it. It was fondant on the outside with buttercream underneath. We live in NC.

Wedding cakes are commonly over $500 dollars- just another price that gets jacked up when you say the word “wedding”.
Our cake was a small three tier cake, and we also had a sheet cake. Together, we got about 130 servings of cake. That was more than enough for us. The sheet cake was lemon cake with lemon cream cheese frosting, and the layer cake had a marble cake with cream cheese frosting, chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and a chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream. There was no fondant, and very little detail on the buttercream- just some light texturing and small piped-on leaves.
We did not have any other dessert, but the cake was amazing. We spent just under $500, but I had to go to a bakery 1.5 hours from Seattle to get it. However, it was still cheaper even with the higher delivery fee than bakeries I found in Seattle proper.

We ordered 80 slices of cake for our 120 guests and had a ton left over!
I’m from the rural Northwest, it was from this adorable old lady who just makes cakes in her house, it was buttercream (almond cake with huckleberry filling), and we spent $250. We also had mini brownies, tiramisu, lemon bars, and huckleberry pie. We like sugar.

We ordered an 8 tier cake from a lady who bakes cakes locally. She is not a part of a bakery, but bakes them on the side. I just wanted a pretty, tasty cake and didn’t want to pay tons for it.
Our cake is costing us $360 total, including fillings. Each tier will be a different flavor/filling combo : chocolate/vanilla marble with vanilla filling, red velvet w/ cream cheese filling, carrot cake w/ cream cheese filling, french vanilla with vanilla filling, french vanilla with raspberry filling, chocolate with vanilla filling, german chocolate with chocolate filling, and milk chocolate with bavarian cream.
Our wedding isn’t for another month and some days, but this is the cake stand we are using :
and these were the inspiration cakes given [the cakes will alternate between the two]:

Cory_loves_this_girl: Thanks! I wanted something pretty but somewhat easy to make.. figured the easier it is to make, the less chance it could be screwed up!

Where are you in the world? Central Kansas
How many guests did you have? we will have around 160
Fondant/Buttercream? Buttercream…i personally dont care for the taste of fondant….so I will always do buttercream….plus its cheaper…
Did you offer other sweets with the cake? We having the wedding buttermints (just cuz i love them! and am addicted)…but other then that no sweets…
Or anything else you think would be prudent.
-We got our cake for under $350 from a gal who was just starting up her official business….she had been making cakes for years as a for fun/side gig….but just recently opened an official business instead of just doing cakes for people who were reffered to her by word of mouth…and since she was newer she cut us some deals and put some extras on for free (like 25 mile delivery charge was wiped to nothing because we reffered a few more couples to her)….we got the exact same cake the established bakery across town that is the “It” bakery for town for less than 1/2 the price….also we did basic flavors for cakes and frostings….instead of fancy flavors that can sometimes have an extra fee….
also instead of having her make gum paste flowers for us, i bought some fake flowers like we are using in our centerpieces, and provided them myself…which saved us some labor costs…we also stuck with a relatively simple design….which saved on time/labor costs…

Great! Thanks so much! Love all your pictures as well!! Based on how many people voted $300+ I’m starting to think I should have used a larger price range lol! I was not thinking about that lol!

Cory_loves_this_girl: Your cake looks wonderful: I really like the fresh flowers and the fact that there isn’t lots of cream so you can actually taste the cake and filling 🙂

Lapetitemaimai: Thanks! We wanted a naked cake because both DH and I are not the biggest fans of frosting. It also went well with our rustic theme, so it worked out!

- Wedding: September 2014 - Jacksonville Inn
Where in the world are you? Southern Oregon
How many guests did you have? We ordered a cake for 40 people, although we only have 23 guests.
Did you offer other sweets with the cake? No
Our wedding is Saturday, so no photo just yet. Our cake is 3 square tiers, frosted in pale pink buttercream. Our baker charges $5 a slice for simple buttercream designs, so our cake cost $200. She is also piping our monogram in the center of our middle tier. We are providing our cake topper as well as the flowers. Our flavors are white vanilla with fresh strawberries, chocolate with chocolate mousse and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I can’t wait to see my pink cake!
