    Please list them! I'd love to see what everyone is doing. It also gives us an opportunity to share and pick up ideas that we may have missed that we may want to consider DIY-ing.

    So far I'm planning on doing:

    Favors, personalized Napkins, programs, escort cards, place cards, table numbers, stationery gift for the bridesmaids....

    I love your idea of stationary for the bridesmaids..I'm sooo stealing that idea!

    My wedding is 10mths out; so far I'm planning on doing:
    Passport STDs, invitations, OTT gable boxes (with that I'm making luggage tags for the guests and water bottle labels), "reserved" seating cards for ceremony...I thin that's it so far.

    I'm debating about doing paper flowers for my bouquet, flower for hair and FI bout.

    I'm also doing personalized staionery for bridesmaids!  I also made them post-it note holders and a decoupage frame with a group picture from the bridal shower in it.

    Other DIY projects for the wedding: STDs, invitations, seating cards, table numbers and names, menus,  favor tags, OOT packets, and programs.  Let me know if you want to see pics.

    JCM--how are you personalizing your napkins?  Cool idea!

    I didn't personalize stationary for my bridesmaids, but I did make my own thank you cards and I think it's the same principle.  I took cardstock and cut them, then bought cute stamps at Paper Source and stamped a pattern on one side.  You could buy alphabet stamps and add their monogram too, which would be really cute.  Then find matching envelopes - you could even line them.

    I added a "Merci" stamp to the bottom of my cards and they're ADORABLE.  I love them!  Will post a pic sometime...

    I'm doing invitations, escort cards, favors, table numbers, possibly thank you cards, probably at-home cards for guests who aren't able to make it and therefore aren't getting thank you cards.

    superstar, the wiki lists most abbreviations and what they stand for:

    http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Abbreviations

    We're DIYing some parts of our invites, part of our guestbook, the table numbers, favors, lining the envelopes, menus, OOT baskets, and programs. My mom is also DIYing our chuppah.

    superstar- STD= Save the Date, OOT= Out of Town and escort cards are... I am not sure. Sorry.

    I am doing my own STD, invites, programs, unity candle (I'm just getting a big white candle and putting pearls on it), favor tags, wedding wish cards, slideshow and reserved signs... that is all for now. Whoa... it seem like a lot when you write it all out like that. What DIY projects are you doing? : wedding diy Icon Eek

    Thanks for the thread, JCM! I think it would be great to turn this into a board so everyone can share specifics of their DIY ideas.

    We're doing jelly jar votive holders (tops wrapped with twine and ribbon), staining and decorating mini chalkboards for table numbers and menu signs, planter centerpieces, big escort board on a large chalkboard (chalk names/decorations/drawings), wrapping seedling favors in something pretty and sturdy (any ideas? I love how little pieces of burlap and twine look, but the tubes from Arbor Day Foundation look so sturdy), OOT bags (with the requisite "Ithaca is GORGES" logo screened on), LED "throwies," ribbons to hang paper lanterns from beams, chuppah stands, programs, fabric boutonnieres, and a cake topper. Uh oh.

    hokouk77 - PaperPresentation.com (and I'm sure other sites) actually sell envelope liners!  I think you just use a glue stick to adhere it to the inside of the envelope.  Or, you can make a little template out of cardboard based on what envelope you're using.  Use the template to trace on whatever paper you want to line the envelope with and then cut them out.

    I've seen tutorials for these somewhere, of course I can't remember!

    We're just about to embark on a complete DIY spree featuring:

    - invitation design
    - handmade invitation envelopes, with liners (we're crazy like that)
    - response cards & custom map insert
    - hand made OOT bags w/ home baked goodies
    - escort cards a la Miss Penguin (such a crafty gal!)
    - paper lantern aisle decorations
    - centerpieces with wine glass lamps
    - signage
    - guest book (still need to figure this one out!)
    - favors (custom CDs + home made lemon butter cookies)
    - whatever other projects i can complete between now and 1 week prior to the wedding!

    ACK!  Now I'm getting motivated to make my project schedule...  Thanks for the great topic!

    We're doing the mother of all DIY projects: My wedding dress!! After falling in love with simple, slik dresses carrying a hefty price tag of $2000+, we decided it was much  more practical to make the dress. We're using beautiful material, adpated a pattern to meet my specific tastes, and trimming that is exactly what I pictured. My mom made her wedding dress 30 years ago, and she's done a fabulous job on mine. It looks like an expensive designer dress, but comes in well under $200.00. Not for the faint of heart, but otherwise a great experience. Also doing the following:

    * Save the dates
    * Invitations
    * Centerpieces (growing them)
    * Boquets/corsages
    * Favors (my dad makes wine -- so everyone gets a bottle)
    * Menu cards
    * Programs
    * Escort cards
    * Cake runner
    * Cake stand

    And the list continues. Good think I'm a teacher and have a month off to finish things up before the wedding!!! :)

    I am making just about everything!

    •  I made invitations and envelopes. I used burgundy linen, vellum and white linen cardstock from hobby lobby. I printed my favorite picture of us on the vellum, the invitation on the white linen and the cover that has our names on the burgundy linen. I punched two holes in the top and tied them together with burg/orange ribbons. I made a wrap out of burgundy cadrstock that folds around the invitation. On the back on the wrap I glued a white/orange information card to it that invites guests to go to our wedding website for more infomation about us, wedding details and even RSVPing online. Then the whole thing is tied with a sheer organza ribbon. I cut the envelopes out of matching burgundy cardstock and used double sided photo tabs to keep them together. I started out using glue but they didn't stay glued, then I tried the glue strips that look like white out dispensers but those didn't stick very well either. The tabs with an extra dab with a glue stick seems to be working though. I added a clear "LOVE" sticker to the back to help make sure they stay sealed.
    • Tri-fold Programs on white cardstock with a burgundy band wrapped around it with an orange ribbon that will hold the bubble wand in place. I put burgundy ribbon and a tag on the bubble wands that ask guests to blow bubbles as we return down the aisle.
    • Coloring books and activity packs for the kids on white card stock. Personalizing the books were fun. Each pack has a coloring book,  crayons that come with a mini coloring book, a coloring mat, glow bracelet, puzzle game, sticker game, whistle wand and candy. I got the boxes, crayons w/mini books and coloring mats from oriental trading.com.
    • Mintbooks, they look like matchbooks but have mints instead. The front has the picture of us from the invitations and our names above it and the wedding date below it, the back says "Thank you for joining us" and there are two lifesaver mints stapled inside. I have made almost 200 of these and still have more to go.
    • Favors, small cordial candles in burgundy or orange organza bags with silver thank you tags. Used clear address labels and put our names and wedding date on each candle. I got the candles, tags and labels from Wal-mart and the bags from eBay.
    • Ringbearer pillow with burgundy ribbon. It's so cute!!!
    • Aisle flowers to hang on shepherd hooks.
    • Centerpieces, I'm renting tall cylinder vases, flat garden bowls for floating candles and votive holders. I'm using latex burgundy and orange calla lilies that I got from hobby lobby for .99 a piece. I'm wrapping callas inside the garden bowls and cylinder vases with grass, filling them with water and floating candles that I got from the $1 Shop.
    • I am planning on making burgundy and orange table runners for the tables if time and money permit. Otherwise, I will just use rose petals to add color to the tables.
    • I am hanging paper lanterns up for the reception. I am now planning on hanging led lights in them since so many of you have put up some great information on these. It'll be cheaper than buying electrical cords to hang them with. I plan on using fishing line to hang them with since it's inexpensive yet strong.
    • I bought a white bird cage card holder from hobby lobby for $7 that I decorated with a burgundy satin ribbon.
    • I am getting a large frame from hobby lobby during their sale and getting a mat cut to fit for our "guestbook"
    • I bought most of my fabric on sale at walmart for $1/yd that will be used to decorate for the ceremony and headtable.
    • I am putting together the bouquets with some help from friends. I ordered 70 burgundy/70 orange calla lilies for just under 200 at flowersandfreshness.com that will arrive 3 days before the wedding. I wrapping white ribbon around mine and burgundy ribbon for the bridesmaids.
    • I also made wraps for the wedding cameras that ask guests to take pictures but leave them on the tables.

    Wow, I guess that's it. As if you couldn't tell our colors our burgundy and orange,lol. And i LOVE hobby lobby!!! I plan on posting pictures of these projects soon.

    Hi everyone!

    I'm glad everyone is just as excited and driven as I am to produce signature items themselves for their special day. I've gotten some great ideas from reading everyone's ideas and projects. Thanks for sharing! You guys are awesome. :)

    I also forgot to include that I'm making the menus for the cocktail hour (drinks + Hors d'Oeuvres) and also the menu for the desserts.

    Ringbearer pillow and table names + numbers, too. :) Thanks for reminding me!

    LizzyJ: I'm gocco-ing my napkins; alternatively, you could consider getting a custom stamp made and stamping them with water-based ink and optionally embossing them or just leaving them as-is. The result is quite nice. I got my napkins at Party America. It's $1.99 for a pack of 50 3-ply napkins. I bought 1,000 of them for about $40. I've looked everywhere for an economical option for personalized napkins and the cheapest I could find is still about $10 for 100 napkins and they weren't exactly how I wanted them in design and only 2-ply.

    hokouk77: I'm also gocco-ing the personalized stationery. For the envelope liners, you can also check out Paper Source (www.paper-source.com). They sell an envelope liner template and you can turn anything paper into a liner. They have different sizes included in the kit. It's very time consuming this way, though, as you will have to cut and trace each of them.

    superstar: STDs are Save the Dates. You send something in the mail prior to sending the invitations to notify people of the date and event so that they can make vacation plans or travel arrangements. OOT  refers to Out of Town and usually refers to OOT guests (Out of TOwn guests). Escort Cards tell which table an individual or couple is sitting at. Placecards are at each table and tell an individual which chair they will be sitting in at the table once they get there by way of the escort cards.

    GeorgeViola - my FI is definitely helping out! :)  He's been really involved so far.  My MOH and some other friends have banded together and we'll have an envelope making party, though they insist on no boys allowed, so FI will have to find something else to work on. :)

    superstar - don't worry too much about OOT bags.  I never even knew such things existed before the wild world of wedding planning!  We're doing them becuase we have a fairly small wedding and most of the folks coming are couples or families, so we'll only need to do about 30.  My mom is super crafty, so she's sewing the actual bags - we're just taking care of the fililng and will try and be as low-key as possible (labeled water bottles and some baked goods).  We'll see how that goes. :)

    It's great to hear what everyone is up to!  It was also really helpful to list out the projects I've already committed to - helps strengthen my reserve not to pick up too many more (or at least motivates me to start now so I have time for others - we got the paper & supplies for the envelope party today!).

    Hey everyone,

    I wrote to Mrs. Bee and suggested a DIY board. I think it would be so helpful to have things categorized, links to instructions, pics, etc., rather than 1 long thread that it seems a lot of people are interested in (after only a few days!). I know a lot of the Bees have DIY posts fairly often, and they seem to be really popular... so it would be awesome to have a huge repository of projects and pics! If you're interested in this as well, please chime in so the Bee fam knows that it would be really popular!  What DIY projects are you doing? : wedding diy Icon Biggrin

    I think a DIY board would be fablous! I have to admit, I have gotten a lot of my inspiration from the hive!

    JCM9608: Thanks! I didn't realize until I wrote it all down how much I actually did. I am definitely a budget bride, and the best way to do it on a budget is to do it yourself ;)
