They stand for the duration. A ceremony should not be long enough that they need chairs. Guests get antsy and distracted if the ceremony lasts more than 30 mins anyway.
IMHO, the whole idea is having your close friends and family stand beside you to support you on your big day.
I think it depends. If it's a short and sweet ceremony, no readings (or maybe just 1), I think it's fine to make them stand. However, if you're having several readings, I'd let them sit (or have the bridesmaids wear flats)
It depends on the type of ceremony. We're having a Catholic ceremony, so the bridal party will partake with all the other guests in the sit down and stand up elements of the ceremony (as will we).

Hello All,
We're having an outdoor ceremony that will last about 30 minutes. Do the bridesmaids and groomsman stand for the entire ceremony or do I provide them with chairs to sit down?
