alpinebride:  Can you get a sexually transmited disease from oral sex?  Yes.  So oral sex is sex.  In fact, I think oral sex is way more intimate than standard P in the V sex.

Put more graphically, does one or both partner have an orgasm from stimulation?  Then it’s sex.  Whether it’s oral, anal, between your boobs, whatever.  It’s all sexual activity.

If you’re talking about the archaic idea of virginty then sex only counts when it’s P in the V.  Personally I think people exclude oral sex as sex because they want to be able to say they are still a virgin which still has social and religious connotations in modern society.

If penis in vagina was the only way to have sex, it would be called sex, not intercourse.

There are many different ways to have sex and “sex” should be defined by the participants- no one else.

alpinebride:  I’m with you, P in Va-G is sex.  That’s why there are different names for other types of what I would consider foreplay – oral sex, hand jobs, making out, kissing, etc.  Wasn’t there a Seinfeld episode asking the characters when they thought sex started? LOL

alpinebride:  I had no idea it was up for debate! I also think D in the V is sex and that’s all. You can do other things that are sexual but only vaginal sex is sex in my mind. I mean, I would never say ‘let’s have sex’ and then only do oral. There are many sexual acts but only one act of sex.

P in V. You can’t get pregnant during oral, so I only consider actual “intercourse” sex

mchitt329:  according to Seinfeld, sex occurs when the nipple makes its appearance.

Is it sad I didn’t have to think about that?

Fall_In_Love22:  haha! I remember that now that you mention it!  That’s hilarious, like boobs have never come out and sex didn’t immediately follow?

mchitt329:  lol I know! I guess nursing moms have a whole lot of sex then.

To answer the original question, I think technical sex occurs when the peen enters the vag.

I think it depends on the question being asked and the context.

I think you are sexually active if you’re participating in any sexual act regardless of your P in the V status.

I generally equate sex and intercourse but when people try and say they’re not having an affair because they’re not having sex but they’re doing everything else that’s a cop-out.

Same thing if you claim you’re staying sexually pure until marriage but you’re doing everything except intercourse I think you’re really walking a thin line and you’re probably cheating…

the whole “oral isn’t sex” thing just reminds me of high school, and girls who swore that it didn’t count. sorry, but sex is sex. oral, vaginal, anal.. it’s sex.

So if you found out your husband had oral (sex) with another woman then it wouldn’t matter because it wasn’t ‘full’ sex?

Sex is surely anything that produces a climax or is entered into with the intent to do so.

Butt sex is definitely sex too. Otherwise, how do you define gay sex? What about lesbian sex? Are they ipso facto *not* having sex because a penis can not enter a vagina in these relationships?

I’m also hopping on the oral sex is sex train. It’s not called “oral not sex.”

Anything involving the genitals. Oral sex, fingering, hand jobs, etc.
