Are they planning on getting married close to the same time you are or something? Or do you both share a lot of common friends? As long as the events are held in the same general area, I don't see why they can't be within a few weeks of each other.
Who set their date first???? My friend and I got engaged around the same time and I'm getting married in 3 months and she's getting married in 11 months.....all depends what you want.
Why do you have to put your wedding on hold? They aren't marrying on the same day as you, are they? Even so, they don't own the day. Yes you have a right to be upset but putting your planning on hold makes no sense.
I agree with PP why do you have to arrange it around theirs? My husband's bestfriend got engaged a couple of months before we did. They had already set their date when we got engaged, but we knew we wanted to get married in September, and we didn't want to wait an extra year. Our wedding was one month after theirs, and it was fine.
What I thought was a little odd (as did other people) was another couple hosted their engagement party the morning after our wedding. Didn't bother husband and I though because we were on a plane to the DR for our honeymoon.

So what do you do when someone else close to you got engaged at basically the same time you did... and now you have to arrange your wedding around theirs... Dont get me wrong, I am happy for them but it just stinks that I have to put my stuff on hold or arrange my stuff around their wedding :(
