I wish I had that kind of time. I work til 5, he works til 6, so I usually do hw, go on FB or here, walk the dog, start dinner, do laundry...really whatever needs to be done. Sometimes I lay around and watch TV. Reminds me I need to get started on my homework for this week, so glad next week is Spring Break!
We both get off at the same time. We only have one car so usually I am waiting on him for a ride home. Fun, fun, fun!
I had the day off today, so I exercized, did the laundry, went grocery shopping, hung out on the 'bee, caught up on a little tv, made (most of) dinner and mostly didn't get to clean the house like I had hoped I would! I aim to, but sometimes I would rather finish the episode of Big Love! Thank goodness he loves me anyway :)
Usually we get home at about 7.00 p.m. together (we carpool) but on Saturdays he works and I don't.
On Saturdays I take ze dog for a long hike, clean my ASS off, and get myself all gussied up. During the week I'm soooo lazy when it comes to making myself look pretty so I try to make up for it on Saturdays. Usually on Saturday I am no where near the computer because I'm so siick from being on it all week.
i did that when i was in school on days i wasn't working on stuff too :) i work during the day now but i'm usually off an hour or two before him. i make dinner every night and generally try to have it close to done when he gets home. i also do all our laundry, and the dog always needs a walk around 5 or 6. i don't really clean because we do that together on weekends.
Most days I am the one at work and FI is at home since he is a student but on Wednesday I am home and even though he does not get back from school till 9PM I find myself in the same panic. When I am at work FI 99% of the time cleans up, makes the bed etc and then on Wednesdays I go online and watch TV then I am like crap only an hour to go and run around like crazy too!!
I get home last,b ut still cook dinner. I've learned to enjoy it because it takes my mind off of work. He cleans the dishes!
When he's at work, I usually am too. But when he's working and I'm at home, I'll read or watch TV, and yes, I do try to do some cleaning or cooking. He usually does more stuff around the house so I try to make up for it when I'm not working.
I only get one day where I get home before FI does, and I love him to death, but it sure is nice to come home to a quiet house once a week! =) I watch whatever movie I feel like watching (lately, 27 Dresses, The Sweetest Thing, or some other wedding related movie), eat whatever I want for dinner (usually ramen with an egg!), and do some crafting or reading or web browsing. =) Great topic!
HAHHAHAAHA - you crack me up!!!! If I wasn't working I would probably do the exact same thing. However, at the moment FH is usually home before me - - On the rare occasion that I'm home before him there isn't really anything I do except feed/walk our big dog. He takes our little dog to work everyday, heeheehee
Hate to be cliche, but I am making dinner! Black beans and rice, anyone?
I actually usually work longer hours than my FI and we both head to the gym after work and I usually get home later. I am the type that gets in, does my routine on the treadmill and gets out, but FI plays racquetball for hours. Then I head to the store to pick up something for dinner, head home, walk the dog and get dinner ready. Then I chill on the internet until FI comes home and we get to eat. Mmmm...speaking of, I'm hungry...
Nope, I don't do anything out of the ordinary. Of course, we also don't live together so it's MY apartment and not "ours"
haha, i guess i try to whenever i do get home early..but mondays/wed i get done at 6:30, then pick him up from the library. tuesdays/thurdays i go to my full time job then meet him at our part time job (we work nights at a dental office) and get home together after that.
The apartment is usually a wreck and i've "made dinner" maybe 5 times in the past 2 years. (whoops, bad "wife") we usually just do our own thing for dinner...he'll make a sandwich..i'll have soup or cereal. i hope someday that will change maybe?? haha, right now it works!
I'm the opposite...you should ask my FI what he does before I come home! We're currently both working, and he's always home a good hour or two (or 3, on bad days!) before me. He's super sweet and I often (like today) come home to a spotless house and/or dinner. What a dreamboat. (And here I am repaying him by sitting on weddingbee...bad fiancee!)
I work Mon-Fri until 4pm with an hour commute, and he works alternating weeks Tues-Fri 6am-4pm, and then Wed-Sat noon-10pm.
So, usually he's the one trying to hide that he sat around and did nothing all day Mon-Tues.
On evenings that he's not home, I usually make a dinner that's good leftover for him to warm up when he gets home at 11, but am in bed, or just about ready to do so when he gets here.
If its a day where I'm home more, I try to not look like a slob, tidy up the wedding diy mess a bit and have dinner started. It will be weird when I'm working normal hours and get home before he does!
VirginiaMarie you make me feel like a schlub! I am in grad school right now too but I don't clean up before he gets home. I try to get food prepped but most food is easy prepare stuff and not real cooking.
Heh, I'm kind of like that too :p only work part time so I usually try to have things kind of picked up, or I'll make the bed or something so he doesn't think I sat around and was lazy all morning :p I don't think it works, but whatever lol He always gets home before I do in the evenings, but he doesn't try to have anything cleaned up. Actually, it's the opposite. By the time I get home, he has a bunch of stuff piled on the bed and food contatiners and cups laying around that I usually end up cleaning up the next day (in my attempt to impress ritual) if he doesnt lol
We actually have the opposite situation about half the time!
In our routine, it's pretty much if you want to do something nice for the other person, it's wonderful, but we don't expect it. We just touch base with the other person coming home to say if they need to stop at the grocery store, etc.
I'd probably prepare meals in advance a lot more if we didn't share the apartment with two roommates. We have really limited kitchen space, and no kitchen or dining table.
I used to work more/as much as him but now as most of you know...I'm not working until after the bigmovewedding(yes, all one word! haha)
I usually make a "fancy" dinner every other night and then the other nights just a simple pasta or salad from a bag or box. I also am very clean/ocd anyways, so the house is usually pretty immaculate but certain days I'll make sure ALL laundry is done or really spiff up the apartment.
I *usually* dress pretty cute, even if I'm just sitting around, but some days my hair is up and my sweats are on (hopefully because i've worked out that day! haha)...I always shower tho ;P
I am with you. I do the exact same thing!!!!!!!!!!! AHHH that is crazy! I hate to admit it...but it's true :(
@sulli, I think I'm going to steal your phrase "bigmovewedding" because I love it! We are packing up in CA, shipping it all to MI, having the wedding in TX then moving to MI. Crazy month for both of us!
hahahahaha! This sounds exactly like me :) I just quit my job so I'm not working either... I just work out, hang out with friends, do wedding things.. He never gets off at the same time so I'm constantly texting him asking him when he'll be home so I know when I need to clean up... or at least brush my hair!
Then when I hear the garage door I close the laptop and run out of the bedroom so he wont know what i've been doing :) (weddingbee)
ha ha he's the one not working at the moment :) so he's my houseman :) the house is always looking perfectly clean and there is always a lovely healthy dinner waiting for me as soon as i get home :) he's got cooking down pat so that he's just serving it when i pull in the driveway :)
I love my boo!!.... few months and the roles will be swapped... and hopefully i can keep the same standard lol
FI and I get home around the same time....sometimes he has to work late, but when we get home we do p90x and then eat dinner and watch law and order...its tradition lol
Ha, VirginiaMarie, this is the story of my life. I've been unemployed since I moved to the west coast to be with FI last June, and I generally feel awful about what a terrible "housewife" I am. I work out, I take care of the dog, I do wedding stuff, I apply for jobs, I read news and politics analysis blogs, I read wedding blogs. Mostly I look at the clock and wonder where on earth the day went and rush about trying to plan and cook dinner in the last hour before FI gets home. I'm so bad at this. I'm incredibly excited for next month when I start my new JOB - WHICH I JUST GOT, yay - since I'm a million times better at managing my time when I have a structured schedule.
haha you are hilarious. I do that too! I like to straighten up the dishes and anything messy from before we went to bed (we are normally too tired to clean before bed) so that we can just mess things up again in the kitchen and living room, haha.
Sometimes I can tell my husband does this...I come home to a clean house at 5:45pm, but if i came home at 3:30, I know it'd look like a tornado. And sometimes, it looks like a mess and he's just sitting there. Dude, did you play video games all day?! Cuz I think so =] I keep telling him to enjoy it while it lasts =]
I work a full time job and he usually gets off work about 2 hours before I do, then I have a 40 minute commute back home. So I usually call him when I get off, tell him whats on the menu for the night, and IF I need him to start on it, he will go ahead and do that, as well as put some clothes in the laundry if I need him to. But, if I dont ask him to, then he doesn't. But as long as I ask, he always delivers. :) I'm pretty lazy on the weekends though, and he knows that I wont be cleaning or cooking.. So we go out instead. (We won't be able to do that forever though)
We're the opposite. He gets home around 4 and I don't get home until around 6:30 (darn commute). Usually he's either relaxing, watching TV, or every once in a while, if we know what we want for dinner, he'll have that started. He's a sweetheart!
My hubby works the second shift so when he gets home it can be as late as midnight so by that time I am in bed cuddling my Snoogle. I have to make dinner or have dinner available for my FIL so I make sure that I set aside a container for the hubs to take as his dinner the next day.

Currently, I'm not working. Just going to grad school. FI is insanely busy though with 12 hour days. I should have my house in order, look gorgeous and have food ready everyday. But instead, I'm usually wearing sweats, need to clean and serve tuna for dinner.
But, an hour before he gets home, I go into crazy-mode and I run around the house picking things up, try to make myself look acceptable, and pretend like I haven't been on weddingbee.com all day. He's hard to fool, but every now and then he buys it!
Do you do this too?!
