- Shop Weddingbee
Alrighty..I'll shamelessly admit it..I play frontierville on facebook. Typically, if I'm procrastinating work that I'm on the computer to do anyway.
But off the computer, I like to shop and rearrange furniture! HAHA I know it sounds ridiculous. I just like it because it feels like totally new space. anywayyyy...
@sorrycharlie: i think that's sweet!
I guess I do have hobbies, but I always feel like they aren't very "cool" to tell people about. Like I love reading resumes, and recently got into keeping a diary. And I volunteer for Junior Achievement (an organization that helps high school learns about making mini companies)
I hang out on Weddingbee.
I,too, am hopelessy awkward at stuff, and generic reading and hanging out with friends (read: drinking copious amounts of alcohol) is about my extent of fun hobbies. Oh, and watching all my tv shows.
I should really get out more.
I don't have any 'cool' hobbies anymore. I used to play rugby, but that eventually sucked up all my free time and I didn't enjoy it anymore. Also, I'm getting old, haha!
Yeah, I also dread the 'What are you doing for fun?' question. I'm on the Bee, on FB, watch TV, play with the cats, or read. I'm lame.
I think the Junior Achievement sounds interesting actually!
I sail, kayak, ski, and play soccer. I also love to read, but most people find it less interesting. I used to play WoW and I felt weird about people knowing that, I'd try to hide it.
@MissShork: Junior Achievement sounds pretty cool to me!
@kay01: Ha. The SO plays WoW, and I give him a hard time about it sometimes, lol. I call raid nights and dungeons his "nerd dates". He takes it really good, though, he knows I'm just joking. Plus, I call him "my Hot Nerd", so that makes it better, I think, lol.
@kay01: I've played WOW too... and also try to avoid telling people. My non gaming friends don't get that side of me. lol
I coach middle school field hockey, direct high school drama club, refurnish furniture, and all of the basics, like reading, cooking, writing, and working out. I also LOVE photography and to kayak in the summer!
@MissShork: I think volunteering at just about anything is cooler than any "cool" hobby I can think of. :)
I like to bake, and for awhile I combined that with volunteering - I was part of a group called "community cooks" that provided meals to a local shelter. But then I got overwhelmed with stuff and had to drop out. :( Hopefully when life settles down I'll be able to start again.
I also love hiking, but it's the kind of thing that's a "couple of times a year" hobby, since I don't have a car and don't get out to the mountains much.
For the record, I know several ppl (other than the SO) irl who play WoW, and all of them are totally cool people. None of them are 40 year old virgins living in their parent's basements, lol. (Just didn't wannna come off like a WoW hater, or anything)
FB and I did some loom knitting while I was pregnant that I actually enjoyed...
@Wonderwoman217: No worries! Fortunately my SO played with me - I actually introduced him to it! I hadn't played much prior though, and he got addicted super quickly so I was harassing him abt it. We just quit a few months ago though so I don't have to hide it anymore.
Let's see, another hobbies most people find odd: cross-stitching (admitedly not much in recent years). It's funny when people see one I completed in high school and I tell them what it is - they stick their nose up on it in disbelief it's a cross-stitch.
And some non-public hobby of late: Watching shows about Kate & Will, of course the bee, and watching reality shows like the bachlor(ette).
Fortunately I'm pretty involved in the earlier mentioned ones and they're easy to talk about (on the board of a sailing non-profit) so most people don't think to ask more - no need to confess these others!
@Wonderwoman217: FH used to play DnD online Friday, Saturday and some Sunday nights. I knew I freeweekends they had a time set up. Thankfully that's stopped.
Usually saying "I'm in college" is enough to kill the "what do you do for fun" line of questioning. I used to say FH and I dance but I quit that organization (too much opposition to following the rules and as I president I would be the one sunk if the admin found out)
I guess baking, putsing on the internet and in the fall- marching around with the university's biggest cult (marching band).
Hopefully in the spring I can add riding back on that list. I really miss it and it certainly helps with my knee problems.
I just got into thrift store finding. As in, I have been going to various thrift stores in my area and finding things that Id like to fix up. I can be crafty at times so Im trying to do that more. For example - I found a wooden breakfast in bed tray that I am going to paint white and add patterned yellow paper to the inside.
But typically I dont do anything awesome for fun. I hang out with my husband, play with my animals, watch my TV shows and on weekends go to new places or restaurants.
My three dogs and at the moment wedding stuff is my hobby well for the remaining 7 weeks anyway lol
I knit, spin my own yarn on my spinning wheel, sew once in a while, bake and love to cook new/interesting recipes.
I also like to take the pups on hikes.
I'm a huge yoga fan and I also make my own jewelry, which I sell in my shop (and on etsy). It keeps me very occupied and fills downtime, plus I absolutely love it. I also consider my store to be a hobby... I love what I do :)
I used to both take and teach bellydancing, and I freaking LOVED it... but my schedule doesn't allow for it anymore.
My FI and I LOVE puzzles. One our favorite things to do is work on a jigsaw puzzle while watching a movie or TV show or just visiting. I also love sudoku and am getting better at crossword puzzles. And I'm majorly into crafts: cross-stitch, knitting, scrapbooking, and of course, all my DIY projects for the wedding. I'd also add reading, but I'm a lit grad student, so that's more my "job" than for "fun" right now (though I do love it!).
@T.R.Bride: we just bought a landscape puzzle! we are going to try to glue it and hang it up in a frame. it's actually really fun - it's competitive too, we make it into who can finish their "part" faster, haha!
My top 3 would have to be:
Sports: I play tennis and racquetball with my fiance or friends (not competitively), and I play softball on an IM team and a city league team. Fiance and I also go to lots of sporting events.
Piano: I had never played before, but about 2 years ago I started taking piano lessons.
Movies: Recently started watching old movies from the 40's and 50's.
Aside from school lol. I really like sports! I play ultimate frisbee! Its really fun. I also play some of the other more common sports like soccer and volleyball. I really like staying active.
@nicolethegrrr8:I really like watching old movies too! Breakfast at Tiffany's is ohh man! So good. I like most of Marilyn Monroe's movies. I also like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire.
I'm also in grad school, and I have to say that with student government, event planning, and teaching a course that's as good as a hobby!
But for the more normal things, I also like to read, quilt, and bake. And in the summer, time permitting, outdoor sports. Though currently with school, quilting is the only one I'm doing continuously. If I baked much, I'd weigh a ton... so quilting is nice and helps me wind down at night. I like it as a hobby because I can take it up and put it down in an instant. :)
i'd love to add working out to one of my hobbies but i freakin hate it! so that said, i teach myself how to play songs on my piano (i took lessons a long time ago and while i'm not that great i can still teach myself and read music woo hoo!) i am also really really into photography. hopefully i'll be able to take a workshop or something this summer to learn a few new tricks and i'd love to get better at photoshop but baby steps. i hope one day to make money off that little hobby of mine
DH and I both play golf and tennis. I also love to read and play with our dog.
I really enjoy kayaking, skiing, water sports (water skiing, kneeboarding, etc) but I don't have the opportunity to do those things very often anymore.
I am a horseback rider, so that takes up a lot of my time.
I'm also on the board of a woman's networking group.
I love rock climbing & yoga.
I love reading, knitting, re-upholstering furniture, re-finishing furniture.
I also love lounging outside in the sun with friends drinking mojitos and eating cheeseburgers. (is that a hobby?).
My hobbies are fairly domestic. I like to knit and cross-stitch. My current project is a Quaker-style wedding certificate with our names and wedding date. I also love to bake and experiment in the kitchen.
I studied music performance in college, and spend a lot of time fooling around on various instruments (I try to learn a new one each year). I also am a bell ringer, and ring at the National Cathedral in DC, and play hockey on weekends.
I wish I had more hobbies! I work night shift and go to nursing school full-time during the day, so my hobbies right now are studying and sometimes sleeping when I can. When I do have free time, I try to just relax and hang out with friends, family, and FI. I love movies, going to the beach, reading, and shopping when I have the money.
I also loooove to travel, and I LOVE cruises.
FI & I really want to start golfing this summer, too... he used to do it and wants to get back into it.

When someone asks me what I do for fun, I always feel awkward and give a "you know... hang out with friends, workout, read, etc..." (not that those things aren't bad, but they're really generic). I wish I had some cool thing I did! But I've hopeless-y awkward at every phyiscal activity I try and I've never found a sweet hobby I could absorb myself in.
So I want to ask the bees: What do YOU do for fun? :)
