I live in the middle of no where and it takes 20-30 mins to get to the gym. So i always seem to make excuses on why i didnt go... Whats a good way to motivate you to get you going into the gym.

Ohh gosh, I'm sitting here trying to figure that out lol. I keep trying to tell myself I dont want to look fat at my engagement shoot, it only happens once...but for some reason, that doesnt seem to work either. lol

pack your bags, change at the office, and go on your way home from work.  If the gym bag is already there and ready to go, it's hard to say no.  also, think about switching gyms!  30 minutes is awfully far and gives you way too easy of an out everytime you think about going...

I've found that when I use workout dvd's, I'm much more motivated to work out because I don't actually have to go anywhere. I'm currently using the 30 day shred (lot's of bees are using it, so if you give it a try, there will be a lot of support on here!), and I really like it!

Thats the closest gym to me. I live in the desert. Middle of nowhere. I just need to go and do it!

If it makes you feel any better, I have an hour commute (on the subway), go straight to the gym, and then have a 15 minute walk home.  So a 30 minute drive doesn't seem so bad ;o)

Anyway, my one tip is to go straight to the gym from work.  If you go home, it's SO easy not to leave.  Personally, I get going by thinking of a half marathon I have to run in two months!

I find thatif I don't get up early enough to go in the am, then it doesn't happen. I'm not a morning person so I just have to get out the door and go before I realize what I've done. HaHa!

I'm also combining gym with the 30 Day Shred at home right now.

Also, if you live where it's warm, could you run outside?

what about going outside for a good run? You should make yourself do one or the other. Run outside or go to the gym, but at least having the choice might make it easier to get motivated to workout.

Every month or so, I make up a new playlist with my current favorite fun songs that get me jazzed up, and I don't let myself listen to it unless I am at the gym!  I also keep healthy snacks at my desk and eat one about an hour before I workout so I can't use feeling hungry as an excuse.

@Soon2BeMrsWheeler: Thanks!  I'm kind of nervous.  Running 6 miles tonight and adding a mile every week until Christmas!

As wierd as this might sound, it works for me! I have pics of my fiance's fave girls (more or less fantasy people like some of the Victoria's Secret girls and some famous actresses, people my fiance' finds very attractive). I have a few of those pics on my computer and I have a few posted around my workout area. My goal is to make him happy, to be HIS fantasy girl. So that really motivates me to get my butt into shape!

Good question!  I find it harder to get my butt to the gym especially with the weather getting colder.

I'm lucky enough to have my dress already -- so whenever I feel my willpower sliding, I go in and look at my dress.  Also?  If I don't lose 20 pounds, it won't fit, so that's a big, big motivator!!

I have a photo of me dancing at a recent wedding on the fridge... every time I want to eat, I look at that photo & instantly want to go for a run. I actually avoid my kitchen now lol

I also sometimes watch the "good" tv shows at the gym. My friend disconnected her cable & only went to the gym to watch tv & she lost 30lbs. She's my inspiration :) She saved money & lost weight. Incredible.

@recessionista: LOL!  is it a positive motivation, like you look hot and want to keep it up, or like you DON'T like what you see, and want to make sure that photo never happens again?  That is really funny.  I love it!  And not a bad idea...lol!

i agree with some of you guys who posted saying that packing workout clothes and heading straight to the gym after work is a good way to get to the gym.  what motivated me was signing up for a half marathon with some friends, and then training with them.  it always helps to have friends to workout with!
