I schedule appointments when DH is home so I don’t have to deal with it.  Plus he’s very hands on and half the time ends up helping the repair guy.  We live in an apartment so we don’t pay extra for the repairs but the faster they’re done the better for us.

I said Other. I usually hang out with them at first until I know what’s going on, but once the needed work has been determined and agreed to, I usually hang out in a different room unless the work is happening in my bedroom (in which case I stay because I have jewelry etc in that room and don’t want to worry later.)

I hang out within ear shot. My husband is a heating repairman and he says that’s the most convenient thing to do.

I go on my computer in the next room.

I don’t have them in my home. My husband fixes everything.

@Sea_Ashley:  Well we have an HOA and a management company so all repair work is done through vendors that they have used for years. In other words if they do try to pull something they are losing big business and their reputation. Typically we are either not home (if they don’t need us to be) or I just let them do their thing and come in if they need me.

If I was booking privately without the knowledge or backing of a bigger business I would probably stick by a bit closer.

i’ll stay nearby in case they need anything or have any questions. our repairman is pretty friendly, so sometimes we’ll just chat while he’s working or he’ll show me how to fix the problem if it happens again.

@Sea_Ashley:  It’s a blessing and a curse.  You should see some of crazy projects that he dreams up.   SMH

If it’s someone new I will check in on them periodically.  If it’s someone we know and trust will stay within earshot.  I would never leave anyone alone in the house.  Depending on who it is, H sometimes schedules to be here.

I go about my normal routine as much as possible. I don’t hover, but I definitely wouldn’t leave them unattended in my house.

@Jijitattoo:  same here. I let them know where to find me, offer a drink or coffee (not that anyone has accepted yet haha) and stay in earshot.  That’s what my mom always did so i pretty much copy her 😉

It is nice when DH is home though. Less awkward that way!

I’m usually teleworking so I let them in, get them started/access to where they need to be and am nearby if they need anything. When they did things like replacing the hot water heater it isn’t realistic to be in the same room the whole time!

I have found companies/contractors I trust so I don’t mind being at home by myself with them while husband is at work. My schedule is much more flexible than his so it makes more sense for me to be home. Plus I actually own the home.
