I've never kept an invite because to me it's just more clutter.
But if I ever got a REALLY cool invite of a close family/friend I might keep it.
I typically just keep it till the event then throw it out.
It depends on whose it is. Generally I throw them out after the event. If it's from someone I'm superclose to, I might scrapbook it with mementos of them or if I really love it, I might keep it for inspiration :)
I'd keep invites from really close friends or siblings but beyond that, I toss them after the event
I keep everything. I have box full of invitations, postcards etc., i even have the birthday cards from my 1. birthday :) I can't throw these things away because i know that most people put a lot of effort and thought into making or buying them and they are nice memories.
I typically throw them out after the event, however FI's mom recently showed me an envelope she has with several wedding invitations, some of couples who've passed away and it was really neat to see the different styles and it's a nice souvenir I guess. I may start keeping them if they are special/from someone special.
If it was my (non-existant) child's, I might keep it. The truth is, I don't have one from my own wedding. I used up all the ones that I made. Then I effed up the word document from which they were printed, so I can't make any more without really putting some effort into it.
I throw them out. As cool as some are, I never go back to look at them again.
Throw it away. I need to remember this when I find myself getting too wrapped up in invitations... They get thrown away and no one remembers what they looked like!!
I'm the one that as soon as paper hit my hand it'd disappear so I used to loose them and then they'd eventually get thrown away.... BUT now after spending hours upon hours and more money than expected on my own, I'll probably keep ones I get in the future. lol
I've never kept a single invite. There is no sentimental value when it's someone else's wedding so they get thrown away soon after the wedding (or before if there's no special details I have to remember).
It pains me to think that $5 a pop will end up at the dump but I guess it's my fault for wanting fancy invites. Oh well...
File them in the appropriate file folder(by month) till after the event, then into the recycling bin.
I can't imagine how much junk would accumulate if I kept every invitation I receive.
I kept some invitations from weddings we were invited to while we were engaged but now that we're married and I don't need the inspiration anymore, I wouldnt do that.
My mom saves every invitation and program! I thought it was kind of crazy until I got engaged and she gifted me her giant bag of invites and programs. I guess she saved them with the thought that someday I'd be getting married and I'd want to see a bunch for ideas. It actually is really helpful for thinking about what kind of wording to use!
It really depends on how close I am to the couple - some I save, some I toss.
Only once have I kept one longer than the event -- and that was because I liked their directional map & wanted to use it as an example for when I made up my invite templates!
I can't stand clutter (we have enough of it already) so if we aren't using it, can't give it away or recycle it we toss it---invites included.
I tried to keep this in mind while making our invitations in the hopes thaat I wouldn't get too frustrated over something that was just going to end up in the trash anyway.
i repurpose them, cut them up and turn them into a wedding card to give back to the couple! someone did that with our invite and i have to say - it's my most favorite wedding card ;)
and yet...we brides spend sooo much money on them, and so much agony over them! :-o
@sewing:I would love to see a tutorial on this as well. How very creative of you!
In the past, I would have voted for "keep until the event, then throw them out" but since I started planning my own wedding, I've been saving invitations for reference. :) I'll toss 'em soon.
I always keep invites and I'm so glad I do because they are coming in very handy now while I look for my own. I also found a bunch of save the dates and thank you cards...they are also helping me along my planning journey.
I throw them away - unless it is a wedding I have planned, then I keep them for files. For the most part, they get thrown away, eventually. I usually put them on the fridge for a while.

I was just wondering if any of you keep invites that have been sent to you?
If you do, why?
