I actually mostly do cardio at the gym! When I do weights, I do think about it...but I don't take it off. It has not gotten scratched at all.
You could wear gloves..like weight gloves....if you feel it might hurt your ring!
Or wearing it around your neck also sounds like a good idea!
I take mine off an tie it to a key chain that has little leather straps. My mom is a power lifter (not as scary as it sounds) and wears hers on a necklace so she doesn't warp the shape which is a real concern with gold.
I wear it at the gym: lifting, treadmill, kickboxing class! Just think of it as a reminder or incentive for that lovely white wedding dress or for the bikini on the honeymoon.
I do think the chain would be a good idea if you're still nervous though, mine hasn't gotten scratched at all though
None of those weights are as hard as a diamond, right! :)
I wear mine 100% of the time (ok, 99%, sometimes I have to take it off for a few seconds during a manicure).
PS - on occasion, I've seen frantic notes around my gym from girls who have put theirs down and had it stolen in seconds. I would rather it get banged up than take that risk!
Hi Jen Jen - Congrats on the engagement! Working out with weights will definitely scratch your platinum band, but hopefully you have a service agreement where it was purchased and you can just take it in to be polished. You don't lose any of the metal when platinum is polished. When mine was scratched from weights I took it in for polishing and it truly looked brand new when they were done. As an alternative, you can wear weight training gloves....
I actually wanted to post this same question but I was too lazy ![]()
I take mine off personally. My hands get sweaty and not only is it uncomfortable but I worry too much about damaging it. And I use weights a lot (strapless dress here).
I actually tie it on my shoelace...TIGHT! when I'm lifting weights. I wear it most of the time when I'm doing cardio.
I take mine off for weights, although not for cardio or yoga. I also take it off a lot at work, as I work at a nuclear facility - and if you read your insurance policy, you will note that it does not cover loss due to radioactive contamination or accident detonation of a nuclear weapon! It does cover loss via being stolen from your car, if that should happen. I just have a ring box in my glove compartment.
i take mine off all the time.. especially when i think i am doing something strenuous with my hands.. i also take it off every night since your fingers puff up; you don't want to have a crease of the band. I've heard this from others who have never taken it off and now has a permanent mark on the ring finer. =) my suggestion to you is to put it in the car and definitely in the glove compartment. bonus if it locks too. =)
Bearbear, I do the same thing! When I'm doing cardio I do the "admire in the lights" thing but when I lift, I don't keep it on for fear of scratching it. I tried it once but I couldn't hold the weights correctly either, because I was paranoid about scratching it. So I either tie it in my shoe and then check it every 10 seconds - even though I haven't moved my foot - or tie it into the waistband of my pants if it has a drawstring. And then check it every 10 seconds. :) I've thought about the necklace thing but I think that would drive me nuts to have on my skin, and I would ultimately grab the neck of my shirt to wipe my face off and snap the necklace or something. There is no way I'd leave it in a locker or in my car. I don't think I could concentrate on working out because I'd be afraid that would be the day someone decides to break into my car. I haven't basically let it out of my sight since we got engaged in September, save taking it off when I'm in the shower or cooking.
I wear roos which have a pocket in them, so sometimes I put my ring in there, it's not as uncomfortable as it sounds.
But my car has a locking glove compartment, so I usually put it in a ring box I keep in there, and then lock the glove compartment. Important note: I do this when I leave a place, not when I arrive, so anyone hanging out where I park does not see me do this.
When DH bought my ring, the jeweler told me, one of the absolute best ways to take care of your ring is to not wear it - and so any time it may come in harms way, I take it off!
i wear mine all the time.. everywhere...
be careful - I know girls who had their rings stolen out of lockers... :(
I wear it when I do cardio. I just started wearing it under gloves when I lift. It fits under the gloves better than I expected. Before I had the gloves, I put it on my necklace.
My wife NEVER takes it off. I don't take my wedding ring off either. I find that more people misplace or get their rings stolen if they regularly take it off (for any reason) as opposed to just leaving it on and risking a scratch.
As a wedding photographer, I've heard of a lot of lost and stolen ring stories and very few scratched and ruined stories ;)

I bring a ring box and put my rings in there, in my gym bag, in a locker. There are always people in the locker room who would definitely notice someone trying to break into a locker. There are not always people in the parking garage checking to see if someone is going to break into a car. I also don't wear mine to sleep or in the shower, but I always put it in a jewelry box in the same place.
Ha ha...maybe I should go back to the gym so my advice would be more "real life." When I do go, I wear it. Can't stand the idea of leaving it ANYWHERE. I did buy weightlifting gloves to protect from scratching the band. A friend used to put hers in a little bag and lock it in her desk drawer at the office, but that only works if your office and gym are in the same building.
If you do take it off to leave in your bag, car, etc., make sure no one sees you doing it. (i.e., take it off before you get to the gym and put it away in your bag which goes into your locker; take it off and lock it in the glove compartment before you park) A lot of people watch, and if they see you putting something away, they know it's important. A pretty good tip in general -- if you plan on locking something valuable in the trunk or glove compartment, do it before you get into the car, not after you park.

I just got engaged on Valentine's Day so I'm still getting used to wearing a ring. What do you do with your ring when you go to the gym? I'm afraid the weights will do horrible things to my shiny new toy. Unfortunately I go to the gym after work so leaving it at home isn't an option and I don't feel right leaving it in the car. I've been thinking about wearing around my neck. Do you guys have any suggestions on what type of chain I should use? If I use a gold or silver chain, will it scratch it? FYI, it's a platnium band.
