they are a def must have. get the ones that go all the way up to the bottom of your boobs and go down to your mid thigh.
They can certainly work wonders... my only caveat is that on more than one occasion I've practically worked up a sweat trying to get those things up and over my butt (my largest feature). It makes going to the bathroom a little tricker too. I'd just think about the type of Spanx you're getting vs. the type of dress you have. You may very well have to take off your entire dress to go to bathroom, ha! I love them for form-fitting clothes. I'd just say determine which is more valuable to you--the pros or the cons. Hope this helps!
p.s. the ones i am describing have an opening in the crotch for this very purpose!
WHAT!?! THAT'S THE GREATEST IDEA EVER! That will be my hunt this week, hahaha. Have not seen those!
@vevans07: i know!! they are quite hilarious, i must say. i call them the "easy access" version
I have a pair like described and they work, if you can get them on. It is a challenge and like vevans07 I have worked up sweat to get them on. But I did just get something similar from Target, it's shape ware called BARE I believe. They come all the way up under the boobs but are just like underwear, they don't go down the thigh. LOVE them. Way easier to get on, more comfy and you still get the great smooth results for $15! I got it to try on dresses.
@Mrs. Meowerson: I guess that makes the wedding night all that much easier ;)
@pinkb: I think I am going to go and get this from Tar-Jay! BTW, Spanx is not only for full figured ladies. I wear them for my dresses, they make your dresses lie flat on your body and hide all the bumps. I also have the one that has the 'easy access slit' :)
@vevans07: haha cos nothing is sexier than a lady in a pair of spanx and nothing else. p.s. you should probably run to the bathroom and change into something a little sexier on your wedding night haha
i lovvvvvvvvvveeeeeeee spanx! just make sure you get the right size! otherwise they tend to roll down. :)
I think they are awesome, but they sometimes have the tendency to roll (even when they are the 'right' size). I think it's worth getting some (don't get the 'power panties' ones that sit at your waist - get the ones that go all the way up to your bra line) and try it on for a day/afternoon. The last thing you want is to feel super uncomfortable on the wedding day!
I have a crotchless boob-to-thigh one to! I LOVE it. It totally smoothes all of my bulges.
Sorry, I'm not full figured but I have a tummy (to the point that someone actually told me I looked pregnant, 6 months (and were totally being serious and told me to take a pregnancy test...LOL)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE spanx. I have 2 pairs. Some people think they are uncomfortable but I honestly hardly know they're there. They feel fine and make everything look nice and tight. They are a little tricky to take off but I would NOT suggest using the little hole to pee out of, as someone else suggested. I did that at my FI's sister's wedding and man, it was disastrous. Well, almost disastrous, but I won't get into it :)
Oh, and I second you need to not let your FI see them on your wedding night. I am proud of my spanx and my FI sees them and he says, oh!!! those are so unattractive!!! Why do you wear them!!!!! It's pretty funny because I torment him with my spanx. I will admit, they are NOT sexy to look at!
The ones at Target were are called Barely There.

I have two pairs of SPANX. I actually need to order another one-because when we moved into our new place-I can't seem to kind one of them.
Anyways-SPANX are wonderful. You feel and look slimmer and do kinda can forget that you have them on. Both pair I have a crotchless. If you have can find a local retail where SPANX are sold I would say go ahead and stop by.
@Mrs. Meowerson: Haha, actually it was my cousin, who has had 5 kids before and actually had a form of ovarian cancer. She actually said it because she was worried about my health. And I was so scared that I actually took a pregnancy test! :)
One note: I do have SPANX and I have another brand, my sister got that for me as a gift so I can't remember the brand. The Spanx are actually more comfy and they don't make my butt look weird. The other brand is tighter and looser in some areas (to give your butt a nice shape) but it just fits me WRONG and makes me look like I have an awful pantyline (either that or 2 butts). So just be aware when you try these on....
I dont like the roller blind effect. I had a pair of spanx, and they did the roller blind thing once, I do not want that happening on my wedding day lol.
So I'm wearing a waist snipper (think light duty corset) and a pair of make-me-skinny knickers.
I got them at JCPenney.
I loves them
I personally hate Spanx, but many many women love them. I actually found that it doesnt make a huge difference for me. My suggestion is to find a dress or bra that is corset like. Way hotter, much more shape defining, and for me - way more comfortable!
I had the corset-like bra. However, I still found the Spanx helpful. Spanx don't so much reduce your size as smooth out all the lumps and bumps. But I'm lumpy enough to appreciate that.
I wore the slim cognito on my wedding day, the ones that end at the waist (I also had a bridal bustier on top). I like them a lot and have worn them with lots of other dresses. I found they slimmed my hips by a good 2-3 inches. They didn't roll on me, but I think a lot of the roll/nonroll thing varies on different bodies.
I've owned several pair of these and of the very lightweight power panties and I do advise heeding the advice from Spanx on how to put them on. It really, really, really helps to bunch the legs up as much as you can in your hands and (while sitting on a bed or something) pull the garment up your leg as high as it will go, one leg at a time, then pull (wrestle) it up over tummy/hips/butt, and finally adjust the legs down. The higher up on your leg you get the garment initially, the more give you will have for getting it over your midsection. The more you do this, the easier it will get. I don't think I went to the bathroom during my wedding (I'm kind of a camel anyway), but I have worn the Spanx to other functions and been able to go to the bathroom and get the Spanx back on. Just takes some practice.
ok, maybe i dont have the right spanx, but i have the little shorts kind, and i dont really think it thins you down at all. I mean, it makes things smoother i suppose, but nothing uber helpful for us big girls.
Am i using the wrong ones?? haha
I just bought a "Body Shaper". This thing is like a heavy duty corset/body armor. I swear I could stop a bullet w/ it, lol. Anyhow, I've never tried Spanx but I love this thing. It goes from mid-thigh & has straps that are detachable. This one is also very breathable & I do not get hot at all!
I wore super spanx for a wedding I went to over Memorial Day weekend - the spank smoothing tank top and the spank higher power tights (I think they're higher power). First, holy crap they were hard to get on and I kept thinking DONT DRINK so I wouldn't have to pee. That 'slit' is not something I want to think about when I have to pee...really!
Also, my boyfriend (now FI) couldn't stop laughing at the sight of me with all that armor on!
I felt WAY better with it on, but man when I took it off it was like THANK GOD!
I use to love my spanx but after a while they would roll down and I would end up taking it off. I no longer wear my anymore but I use to love wearing them with dress. Any option would be to add a corset inside of your dress and you wont have to wear anything. My dress came with one and BOY does it suck me in big time! Good Luck!
Also - I think many wedding dresses HAVE the 'bones' in them to slim you/hug you in so you wouldn't need the all-the-way-up spanx.
I'm going to buy a bustier to keep me in and lift me up since the dress is strapless as it stands now (haven't decided if I'm going to put straps on it).
However, I think I'll wear just the thigh part to avoid my thighs rubbing together ALL DAY. That's really why I would wear them on my wedding day. Under a dress is sssoo hot that I can't imagine wearing stockings for the whole event. Ugh sweating just thinking about that!
Spanx are seriously the greatest invention!! I would recommend though, and this is purely my opinion only, to look for a different brand of shapewear for the big day. I found that Spanx, while really effective, have a SUPER thick material which surprisingly added some bulk to my dress and unnecessary "weight" to my body. My body doesn't really breathe when I wear them and I tend to get hot and fussy :) The seamstress suggested a DKNY pair (although I haven't looked for them yet) which are more like stocking material but also very effective in smoothing out any bumps. I can say though I definitely work up a sweat putting Spanx on, it's a hysterical sight!
i love my spanx but i had to take them of to pee and i couldn't get them back on under my maggie, but they really were the best. I love the little shortie ones because they stop my legs from rubbing together, lovely but it works.
I LOVE spanx! Like the other girls have said, they are really an obsticle to get on. However, it is so worth it. Mine are crotchless so peeing has never been a problem. I will def where them on my wedding day. They take like 10 lbs off!

I'm considering buying some to wear on my wedding day. I have never worn anything like this before. I'm a big girl who carries most of my weight in the middle. Anyone wear these before and what did you think about them?
