I love going to movies by myself (early ones when it’s not all couply).

Facials/anythiing spa related…I get myself a good facial on occasion and it’s so refreshing and relaxing.

Sign up for a class (cooking, pilates, kickboxing, whatever)

I am treating my boyfriend to a helicopter ride on his birthday next month but if we weren’t together, this is something I would totally do by myself.

Go get a makeover (new haircut? A new makeup look)??? by scheduling an appt at MAC or Sephora.

I enjoy my relationship but he and I are sooo not stuck to the hip and I find that there is so much to do if you look. My ex husband was controlling and I unfortunately lost almost all my friends through the process as well (I was young and dumb and full of you know what). I promised myself that I will no longer exist for someone else. My kids are getting a litte older now so I am also looking into travel.

beachykeenbee :  this might sound strange, but I absolutely love exercising and anything fitness related! It is something I still keep up in my marriage and don’t ever foresee giving up. I have been able to find myself and confidence and strength.

beachykeenbee :  Have you tried any exercise classes? I have a dance class (Zumba style where it’s for exercise rather than to be good) that I started about a year ago and LOVE. The owner (if you call it that…it’s through a rec centre) is so much fun and the owner makes sure her instructors are as well. It’s a great workout, but it’s also a blast and I’ve met some great people through it 🙂 You likely have Zumba in your area and I’ve heard it’s just as much fun (you just might have to “shop around” for the right instructor/studio for you.

beachykeenbee :  I LOVE traveling alone! One of my favorite vacations was a long spa weekend by myself. I even locked my cell phone in my glove box so that no one could contact me (my mom was the only person I told where I was staying). It was 3 days of spa treatments, fancy meals, exploring the nearby town, and relaxing with a good book. One night at dinner in the hotel the old women sitting at the table next to me said “you look SO calm and happy even though you’re alone – I wish I could do that!” I had gotten all dolled up for myself, was enjoying my oysters, filet mignon, and red wine, and just taking in the view out the window. I need to do that again…..

LilliV :  This sounds lovely.

Yes OP, traveling alone is awesome. When/if you feel down about being alone, just remember that your ex was a douchebag (if he was controlling, then he was a douche) that didn’t allow you to be yourself. Think about it: you can be by yourself. You dont have to answer to anyone. You dont even HAVE to answer your cell phone. No arguments. Noone hovering over you. Just you, nature and the good Lord. What could be more perfect than that? Being single and happy is just as awesome as being in a good relationship. Dont believe the lies the media sells to make women insecure.

Another vote for getting active! Also, I could definitely say that my dog is a hobby and “fun” for me – she likes to hike with me, and she also likes to be a couch potato with me. She’s the ultimate BFF.

Another “self care” thing I have recently got into is float tanks. I’m actually going tomorrow morning and I can’t wait!

beachykeenbee :  I was trying to think of a way to explain it haha. The place I go to does 90 minute sessions. I usually hover on the line between being asleep and being awake most of the time. I always feel incredible when I get out.

OH and as for the anxiety thing – I think most places (at leats the place I go to) have float “rooms” in addition to the pods. So it’s more like a tub/pool in a room rather than a pod you enclose yourself in. I think that’s a concern that a lot of people have!

beachykeenbee :  hey if staying in the hotel is what you WANT to do then there is nothing wrong with that either! On a recent trip with my husband all we wanted to do one morning was stay snuggled into the amazing hotel bed, order room service, and watch a movie. Sure there are things we probably should have taken advantage of and done during our trip but we wanted that relaxation.
