My FI keeps insisting I can stop with the whole wedding planning and take a break. He says I’m getting ahead of myself. But I entirely disagree. I work on things maybe a total of 3 hours a week, give or take. I like to take my time on things and I hate feeling rushed. So he can can it! AHAHAHAHA
I’ve gotten done the following:
- Booked Reception Venue
- Booked DJ & Singer (for during dinner)
- Booked a Photographer
- Spoken to the Caterer, just gotta send back the food list and a deposit
- Spoken to a florist (I plan to use)
- Spoken to the hair salon (I was surprised, they told me I should book a hair salon soon because they are already booking appointments for next year!)
- Started Designing my invites (A graphic design background is lovely to have!)
- Chosen the colors for the wedding
- Bought my dress (I just went looking not expecting to buy a dress, but the dress found me and I couldnt walk away!)
- Started collected mason jars and vintage vases for the centerpieces
I’ve also gotten some other misc planning done too….Am I way to ahead of the game? What have you gotten accomplished so far, whether it be planning or completed?

You are way way ahead. He’s right, relax. We recently moved our date from May to October. So far I have a photographer, but that’s because my mom is a professional photographer! We have a venue in mind, a DJ in mind, colors picked out, and I have my dress because I got an amazing deal.

I have the Venue, Church, DJ, Photographer, Colors, and my Dress. The dress I couldn’t beat the deal. All the other planning was because I had a feeling there would be family drauma (which there was). Since then, I havent done anything.

There are still some things up in the air (family issues) so I’m not doing anything definite yet 🙁
I REALLY want to be doing something though.

Oh my goodness! I am getting married this October and I don’t think I have as much done as you! Lol. Your FI is right, although I know how incredibly hard it is to stop planning when that’s all you can think about. I had my dress by Christmas. But remember to relax a little 🙂 Although I think your situation is much better than the alternative; putting it all off until last minute (ex. my hair/makeup apt. that I am now freaking out over just a bit). But you are going to go crazy if you have everything done a year in advance and then have nothing to do!

Well now I don’t feel like I’m going too quickly.
I have the vendor and photographer selected, their payments are going out this week. I want the officiant selected ASAP as well.
I have a general idea of who is doing our cake and who is doing our (fake) flowers. I have figured out our centerpieces and ceremony decoration. Past that, I am playing with ideas but nothing is decided.

I’m ahead too :). I booked our ceremony/reception venue and have spoken to our caterer because it’s inclusive with the venue. I just got my dress, went shopping with my friends and family and found that I loved a style and not one particular dress in general. I happened to find a dress on preownedweddingdresses.com and got my dress for $650… awesome deal and GORGEOUS dress! I have our centerpieces planned out and have a bunch of mason jars so far. Have my photographer too, only because she did our engagement pics as well. I’m on top of everything but I know I’ll be busy next year (working on a thesis) so I wont have much time then.

We have a venue/ceremony space (The Bradford Estate in Hainesport, NJ), photographer, videographer and are in the midst of researching the following: lighting, florist, and dj. I am also planning out my DIY projects to take advantage of this year’s fall and holiday sales to purchase materials. I have been dress shopping several times, but am still looking for “the one.” Many of the vedors here in the north east have mentioned that it is good to have started early because October is replacing June as the month for weddings.

So far we have:
Wedding coordinator (the first thing we did)
And I just bought my dress a week ago.

10/12/13 bride and I have my dress, veil, petticoat, headband, shoes and venue. So I don’t think your rushing things. Though I like perfection and am taking my time with everything. Next on my list is dresses for my bridesmaids because I know money is tight and they’d appreciate a little time to buy them. Oh I also got bear flatback rinstones and will order my bear cake topper in a few weeks. Sensing a theme? lol

I’m probably a bit ahead too, but October is a very popular month in Texas and I want to be sure to get the vendors I want.
Wedding party confirmed
Photography appointments booked
I’m holding back on some of the more decorative items because I assume some of my tastes and preferences will change in a year.

I don’t think you’re getting ahead of yourself. October is a popular time for weddings, and if your vendors are allowing you to book this far in advance, I think you’re lucky you have things nailed down.
My fiance and I are planning to put a deposit on a venue within the next month, and we already have a band and photographer in mind. We’re still more than 16 months away. We want to have an idea of what everyone is going to charge so we can continue to budget and save accordingly.
Unless all this advance preparation is stressing you out or hurting your relationship, I think it’s fine to do things at your pace, and you’ll be one happy bride.
