what equipment are you hoping to use? I'll give you suggestions based on each piece you want to use!
We try to cook most days of the week. We both enjoy cooking. (but between us bees, Im the better cook)
We have a few standbys
-meatloaf, spaghetti, nachos, quesadilla's, lasagna, grilled salmon, burgers, pot roast, artichoke chicken, pork chops with country gravy, stirfry, steak, bbq chicken.
I find most if not all of my recipies from allrecipies.com.
Well for starters we got a really nice stand mixer.. what can we use this for besides baking? I know it was expensive, so I'd hate to let it just sit there. Also we got a nice indoor grill, and tons of pots and pans!
I cook nearly everynight and cook everything. From different variations of burgers, soups, casseroles, roasts etc. From mexican to thai to vietnemese etc.
I am not a big baker but I do periodically make some stuff like banana bread, or health breakfast muffins. I did just make a strawberry rhubarb blackberry cobbler.
I sometimes make other interesting things like ricotta, goat cheese.
I make my own salad dressings typically, guacamoles, dips, sauces etc. Many of these last for the week so I only have to make it once, not every day.
Pick up a cooking light or the Food Network magazine at the store and flip through for a few recipes. These are good magazines with approachable and tasty food.
A few things I made this week was a morroccan stuffed pork poin, lean beef burger topped with grilled pineapple and a fried egg, grilled steak and veggies, apple and blue cheese over mixed greens, chicken sausage and red pepper stuffed whole wheat bread roll. I make a TON of vegetables always.
I do the cooking, and I "cook" most nights.... about 1x a week I'll just pop something in the oven (pizza, lasagna, etc)
Here's link where some bees posted recipes they liked =)

@aajune2011: stand mixers are more one use wonders. Unless you have a meat grinder attachement it isnt all that useful for cooking, only baking.
If you have a hook you can knead dough with it and make your own pizza dough. Since it freezes well you can make some and freeze some for later use. Then make, pizza, stromboli, calzones etc.
I cook dinner between 4-6 times a week. Some of my favorite dinners are:
Homemade Pizza on the grill or on the pizza stone. I just discovered Naan (an indian flat bread) that works great for pizza. And they are perfect individual size, so my hubby and I can customize to our tastes.
Grilled chicken/steak with smashed potatoes and some veggie. Usually broccoli/grean beans/zucchini. My husband is NOT a veggie eater, so I have to force him, lol.
Baked penne
Fajitas
Grilled boneless pork chops
Greek Turkey burgers (look up Betheny Frankel's recipie, delicious!)
I have a great magazine called 30 Minute Suppers by America's Test Kitchen. It's GREAT! They have a bunch of different recipies and all are really easy and flavorful. They release new ones every season I think. You can find them in some grocery stores.
I'll let the other Bees give suggestions for the mixer and indoor grill, since I don't have either of these.
For pots and pans: the sky's the limit!
My favourite pot recipe is definitely chilli (which is great for leftovers and for chili dogs too!....include lots of veggies like corn, carrots, peppers for added colour and health), and curried carrot-ginger soup (recipe from Oprah's website) is another one of my faves. Never underestimate the beauty of home-made spaghetti sauce too!!!!
We do a huge portion of our cooking using stoneware (from Pampered Chef) in the oven.....we roast everything!!! Most delicious and highly recommended if you need any MORE kitchen equipment. :)
I'm navigating my way through this as well. I'm a huge fan of Gwyneth Paltrow's website GOOP.com and her new book, My Father's Daughter.Great use of organic and simple ingredients. She was also recently featured in Bon Appetit magazine and has a great recipe for chicken with peach bbq sauce that requires a grill pan (although I did it in a skillet). My FI was a huge fan!
I also recently purchased Skinny Italian and 5 Ingredient Fix
Perhaps my FAVORITE new cookbook is In the Kitchen with A Good Appetite: 150 Recipes and Stories About the Food You Love. It has some great variations on standard recipes. So far I've done the Honey Chipotle Chicken with roasted sweet potatoes that you can find on the amazon.com review. I highly recommend this book. My FI has loved everything from it so far.
I cook almost every night. His favorite meal/comfort food is pot roast.. Its super easy. He loves chicken casorole, pasta dishes are always good, and quick and easy. I grill a lot chicken, bbq ribs last night, steak, You can always bake things in the oven, fish, chicken, lesagna, and sides are easy. Have a salad before dinner, get some veggies in your diet, make a baked potato, make some rice, and everything is always better with fresh veggies, Like another one of his favorites is when I make pasta with alfrado and grill chicken and sautee mushrooms,, Three very simple ingrediants for one delicious meal. feel free to pm me if you arent quite sure how to do somthing :) Cooking is fun once you get into it!!
My FH claims I "caught" him with my cooking! I have been cooking the family meals since I was 11 years old. I cook ALL the meals, because I love it so. Try cooks.com and allrecipes.com for recipes.
"Kissing don't last - cooking does." Amish saying
Our favorite cookbook is The Joy of Cooking. We recently bought a 5.5 qt dutch oven from the Le Creuset outlet store (with a coupon, Oh YEAH!!) and the first thing we used it for was chicken jambalaya. It's one of our favorite recipes and it is really good!
Last night I made one of our favorite meals: panko crusted chicken breasts with some garlic powder, black bean and tomato quinoa (recipe from epicurious.com), and roasted broccoli with olive oil and red pepper flakes.
We see each other only on the weekends, so I try to cook at least two of the three nights he's here.
I enjoy cooking and cook most days but rarely on weekends. DH enjoys baking and he bakes at least once a week.
I love Asian food but cook all types of food and I love to experiment and concoct something new depending on what we have in stock.
My standbys include:
Roast chicken, spaghetti with fresh herbs from the garden, lemon caper chicken, fried rice, my grandma's recipe for a lemon sesame pork, Janssons Frestelse, Chicken Tinola, Sinigang, Thai Red Curry, fake Hooter's chicken wings, seafood spaghetti, ribs ... I'm hungry now!
Did you happen to get a cast iron pan? I cook every night and usually use the cast iron - it makes such a great spice sear on a chicken breast or tuna steak. Of course, you can always use your indoor grill for that too - take some cut of meat you like, season it with a dry rub, grill it, brush on a sauce near the end if you like (like teriyaki), and enjoy! Quick and easy!
We also like stuff like shrimp and grits, mushroom sauce over brown rice, quinoa with walnuts and an overmedium egg... Broiled salmon is a big thing with us right now cause it literally takes 5 minutes and you can season it any way you want it. I also spend a lot of time on food blogs learning new recipes for us to try out, like a healthier baked "fried chicken" or sweet potato macaroni and cheese. Feel free to PM if you want any recipes!
@aajune2011: Boy when you have a dual oven it makes baking and cooking incredible...I recently started cooking for reals as I tell my husband. Before for work he would take sandwiches, pasta, and lots of chicken . UGGHH
Now since we moved, we have dual ovens AWESOMe

My guy loves meat balls and taco casserole. But I make all kinds of stuff and he thinks I'm crazy. I've made things he has never tried before and it's fun becasue he is willing to try anything, I use allrecipes.com and love it. I search for what I want and sort by ratings, then I pick based on ingrediant and easiness. I have gotten most of my staple recipes by doing this. I also looked up on you tube about how to chop certain things, I love the onion technique I got from that! Wow! It has saved me so much time and tears! My latest favorite dinner is a chicken breast with slasa on it, just cover it in slasa and bake it until the chicken is done, it can go in frozen or defrosted and is wonderful! It goes well with vegtables or even spanish rice and pinto beans.
Have fun! Don't be afraid to try anything, some of my best dinners have been accidents or last minute whims. I have throen away my fair share of burnt and terrible stuff too.
I would love your penne recipe if you would like to share:) My hubby to be loves italian and pasta and baked penne would be something he would enjoy. I'm just learning to cook. I can make pasta, bruschetta, soup, salmon, tacos and some chicken recipes. Any easy recipes would be great that is italian. Thank you!!!
I cook about 6 days out of the 7.
Hubs is the fussiest eater ever! Our favourite things are slow cooked casseroles/ stews. I could not live without my slow cooker (I think in the USA you call it a crockpot?).
My favourite is a lamb and rosemary casserole with lots of winter veggies in it, served with hot buttery mashed potato.
Easy to make- 800 grams of lamb, two onions, four carrots, three sticks of celery (and add whatever other vegies are available) cut into cubes (all about the same size) brown onions and lamb- then chuck in pot with about a 1/4 cup red wine, 1/4 cup water mixed with rosemary, salt, pepper and a dry soup mix- ie french onion. You can basically put anything in it- as long as it has a savoury flavour.
Cook 8 hours on slow.
We cook ALL the time. It is one of our favorite things to do together. I have like a million cookbooks so we usually plan like three dinners for the week and have enough for leftovers for the other two. We used to go out on the weekends, but since we've had a baby we usually order pizza. And NOW we have a new grill so DH is always grilling which is nice because there isn't much clean up.
My favorite cookbook is Happy Times with the naked chef (jamie Oliver). The recipes are simple and delish!
Think of it as an adventure.
When I was younger I didn't even know how to cook really. It was a bunch of trial and error. I had a boyfriend in my early 20s and he and I would experiment in the kitchen together. Some stuff we had to throw out. By the time I met my first husband I knew how to cook and cooked about 5-7 days per week. That continued through raising kids and now everyone can cook for themselves. New hubby says he doesn't need me to cook every day but I cook almost every day just out of habit.
I don't know what you will do with the stand mixer other than bake a lot. I have one of those and I bake quite a bit, but I rarely use it. It's a pain to clean IMO. I just use a spoon and mixing bowl most of the time. But... for that indoor grill, you can grill anything you would grill outside. I would love to have that! Grill any type of meat and you can grill vegetables as well. You don't really need recipes for that. Just season whatever you are going to grill and grill away!
I cook at least 5 nights out of the week. We tend to go out on weekends or BBQ. My favorite pan is a panini press pan from Calphalon. I typically use it to grill meat inside. My favorite recipe sources are closetcooking.com, skinnytaste.com, allrecipes.com and Cooking Light magazine.
I try to do a full-out meal every other Friday (since I have every other one off). Usually I'll go to allrecipes.com and search by ingredient (if I have something I need to use up). I've made chicken stroganoff and a great spicy mango sweet potato chicken dish from them.
DH loves it because when he gets home from work, dinner is ready and he can ease into the weekend. And I don't really like to cook, so it's also a special treat for him. I figure if I have the day off, I might as well get groceries and cook something tasty so he isn't even more jealous.
I do the cooking at our house. Lately I've been struggling with coming up with different things to cook. I've been doing a lot of the same, but I think it's because I'm getting a little bored with it. Plus, I hate my kitchen, so that affects my desire to cook also...
Anyway, tonight I made chicken stirfry with white rice... which, DH loved. Tomorrow we'll probably have the same thing, because it's kind of hard to make stirfry into a different dish.
One of my favorite thing to get is a rotisary chicken. We'll carve it and eat it with baked potatoes, and broccoli. The next night, I'll slice it and serve it with swiss cheese melted on the top over a bed of wild rice with asparagus. The next might, the rest of it will be cut up into small pieces, and thrown into a dutch oven with carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, any broccoli and asparagus that's left over, chicken broth, and home-made noodles, then ten minutes before it's done, some dumplings will be put on the top.
We buy chicken breasts and grind it into ground chicken for burgers, stews, soups, chili, and whatever else ground beef would be used in.
I have a kitchen aid mixer, but it sits in the pantry a lot because it's just too heavy to haul out every time I would use it. But when the kitchen gets remodeled, I'll use it more for like mashed potatoes, to mix breads, cakes, etc.
I cook just about every night of the week but DH knows I don't cook on Fridays and Saturdays! Those nights we order out or go out.
@johanna1987: I forgot to check up on this thread! I found that Baked Penne recipie on food.com. It used to be recipiezaar, but I guess Food.com bought it out or something. It still is an awesome website to search and has reviews with tips from people who made it.
http://www.food.com/recipe/baked-ziti-22539
I made it pretty much how it says, but I used one link of hot italian sausage and one mild. I used whole wheat penne instead of ziti too. :) It was super yummy!
I used to cook casseroles and crock pot meals before we got married, and now he does most of the cooking because 1. He's better at it and 2. His meals are much healthier. But we have a deal going that I cook 2 days a week and he'll cook the rest of the time. lol
we really love cooking, it's such a fun activity to do together! and i like having some control over what we eat, especially once there are kids around i think it's important to be careful.
on most nights, its either fish or meat with some sauteed veggies, or pasta with a tomato sauce that i make in batches and then freeze (for the recipe: http://lifeisgoodkitchen.blogspot.com/2011/06/back-to-basics-or-why-to-always-have.html) .

We got all this new kitchen and cooking stuff and I would really like to start cooking more often. It seems like I barely cook, and I feel guilty for never cooking with all the nice new stuff we got. So I'm curious how often do you bees cook and what is your favorite meal to cook?? Recipes welcome!!!
