It’s finally done getting tailored 🙂 I knew I wanted a mermaid dress but I’m not sure if I have enough of an hourglass figure for it or if I should wear shapewear or something? Let me know what you think!
(Sorry it wouldn’t let me just upload a picture)

katie_cat: Did you already buy it or is it just an option? I think it looks nice, but I think a different shape dress might flatter your figure better.

katie_cat: Oh, I see that you got it tailored, so its yours. Maybe wearing shapewear to help get that figure and taking in the top a bit might help get the hourglass affect.

Absolutely wear a petticoat. I think all mermaid/trumpet dresses need the petticoat because otherwise you don’t really get the foof at the bottom like you should. The flare I guess? I don’t know the word. I had a trumpet dress and it did not look like the same dress without it.
If you want to amp up the hourglass look, you need to define your waist as much as possible from your boobs/hips/butt. Shapewear and a padded bra or sewn in extra cups will help. The petticoat can also double as the waist shapewear depending on how high up it goes on your midsection.

katie_cat: Is it fully altered in that picture? As in that’s how it’ll look on the day? It’s a beautiful dress and you have a great figure, but the dress looks too loose on you.

CarolinaCola: Do you mean the top part looks too loose? That’s the part that looks loose to me when I put it on. I didn’t have a bra on in that picture though so when I wear a padded one it’s more stretched out & smooth thankfully

katie_cat: I think the top looks a little big as well, but the rest looks really good!
Edit: I would add a mermaid slip under though, that will make it flare out a little more!

I think it looks too big on you, you sort of look lost under it! Are you getting any other alterations done?

Agree with other Bees that the dress needs further alterations – the tailor has not done a very good job. The ruching seems out of place in several spots and the top looks loose. I’m sure it would look lovely on you if done properly, but it needs further work. I would go back to the tailor and complain.
