When we picnic, we almost usually make horiatiki (traditional Greek salad, i.e. no lettuce!) but keep the dressing and cheese separate and mix onsite. Other than that, we may bring any of the following: hummus and pita/pita chips; cold mixed bean salad; pasta salad; olives, nuts, and cheese; apples; grapes; watermelon. On the rare occassion, we’ve made tabouli, hummus, and veggie pita sandwiches.

We’re vegetarians (sounds like you are too) and picnicking always reminds me of ancient Greek pastoral poetry.

If we can get away with it, we bring wine.

@Mrs. Gremmlin:  I love picnics! 🙂 Most times its me and my LOs. We mostly pack fruits & veggies, pb & J, veggie straws, turkey dogs and sometimes we take stuff to make our own sushi. Its really fun and the kids love it 🙂

We don’t eat grains, so packing for trips is more difficult. We usually pack homemade dip (babaganoush, sour cream & onion dip, bacon cheddar dip, salmon dip, etc) with veggies for dipping, cheese & lunch meat (we usually make it into little “roll ups”), smoked salmon & cream cheese, olives, salad, etc.

Picnics are wonderful!  I usually pack sandwiches, cheese, crackers, WINE!, grapes, melon, other fruits etc.

I really like fruit, cheese and wine, those are my three favorite!

@Mrs. Gremmlin:  We usually put in edamame, some variety of small white bean, black beans, green beans, corn, cilantro, and some oli/vinegar/lemon based dressing. Sometimes, we use some veganaise. Occassionally, pickels, capers, and/or olives might make their way in.

Cheeeese! (I love cheese.) Especially a big runny hunk of brie or camembert. A baguette, some prosciutto or salami, grapes, olives, fig jam… a slice of loaf cake or some cookies. And definitely wine! Sometimes pasta salad, too.
